Try the other modes so you don't have to play against the same heroes every game

Ive been going random draft lately. It's way better than all pick from my experience. More interesting hero combinations + people are just more relaxed overall (maybe this is just coincidence).

Random Draft and Single Draft are where its at. Less of the same pubstompers over and over and players somehow just seem a little better too. Maybe All random as well but you have to be VERY confident that you can play whatever it throws at you.

They're pretty much the only ones I queue for nowadays. All Pick is awful generally speaking and Least Played was way too similar to All Pick last I played it. Occasionally queue Captain's Mode but its a tricky thing to solo queue.

Random draft is a lot of fun, and probably the best way to play imo

I play all pick to improve my general carry ability, since really i mostly play carries nowdays

I'll also vouch for random draft. While people will pick the top tier heroes when they come up, they will only come up once every 4-5 games on average. With 24 heroes you can pick, you will easily see most of the heroes get some play. Even better you rarely see the more abusive/no-fun combos since they will rarely come up together, much less be chosen by the same team.

It often ends up being psudo-tryhard in that people don't like when you 5th pick a 3rd carry or a hero you can't play at all, but it leads to much better games overall for me.

A question from a Dota2 newcomer.

Has there ever been one point in professional DotA/DotA2 history where playing on one side (aka as Radiant or Dire or whatever) was considered to be OP?

Both sides have different advantages. You could argue that one side is better than the other, but thats why there's Bo3s

and besides, if you lose a game, its almost certainly not because of the map.

Dire is better, you have advantage on Rosh pit. I also find creep blocking mid to be exceptionally easier on the dire team. The jungle is a lot easier to pull from. You can pull easies, hards, and the typical pull camps to lane. I also find the ancients a lot more accessible from the long lane on Dire, on Radiant it's much further away (important for some heroes like Tinker/Beast).

On Radiant you can only expect to pull the typical pull spot and possibly the easies to middle lane. To pull those you need a hero that clears trees and who is dedicated to getting almost no XP or leeching from mid. It is slightly faster to farm the Radiant jungle in the late game, and you can stack two camps at once. But, yeah Dire is almost always better.

Well the mid hero can stack the ancient camp easily on radiant side and the rosh pit being on the dire side doesn't really do much after the dire has lost the towers sorrounding it

radiant has better mid lane, easier off lane (its easier to zone out the dire off laner then it is to zone out the radiant one iirc) and the better jungle set up

i dont think dire has much of an advantage if any at all

The nerf to Lycan took a fair bit of Rosh pressure away since Sent no longer starts the game with 1 less ban.

Really? I would have thought it'd be the opposite because the dire offlaner has that huge mass of trees to quelling blade/tango a hiding spot to leech exp in (provided the radiant haven't caught on) whereas the radiant offlaner either has to outtrade the dire support or try to pull the leftmost hard camp.

I haven't tested out warlock yet but why is he so good recently? And don't tell me that "he was always good, people just didn't figure out how to play him" bullshit. There's gotta be a reason why he's statistically shot up recently.

What about during the time where competitive picks were locked on the heroes side affiliation (sentinel could only pick sentinel heroes and scourge could only pick scourge heroes)? Was there an obvious imbalance back then?

They fixed the Golem's Passsive ability... to actually work.

Fatal Bonds has yet to properly prioritize heroes over creeps, so when they get to fixing that, expect him to really come into play.
