The biggest gap in the beginning for someone like that is mostly all-around knowledge (who does what, cooldowns, items, day/night cycle, jungle, juking in general, TPs etc.).
Yep. Slightly proud to be able to say that I've played every single hero multiple times (well whichever the last version Dota was 2 years ago) and know what all the items and what all the hero skills are... like a boss (well, not really; I always wanted to say that for some reason).
Also, I noticed Valve didn't make Skadi work with Feedback on ranged (it did in WC3 due to how buff placers and non-buff placer orb effects worked in WC3). Who gets diffusial blade on ranged? But what about those funny builds you do for fun?
Besides that though, nearly everything is better in Dota 2. No more weird limitations (like with Luna's glaives bouncing skill not working some orb effects, monkey king bar's anti evasion thing not working with critical strike or some orb effects, Linken's not working on some skills, etc.)
Also does Spectre's (or is it spectral?) reflect damage thing divide between enemies anymore (did they unnerf it)? I remember they nerfed it so instead of dividing 20% of 100 damage to all enemies (for example), it was 20% of 100 damage divided evenly between all damage (meaning less damage done to each player if there is more).
I noticed the description just says the damage is now reduced the farther away the enemy is. Does that mean it does reflects all damage (without dividing it depending on # of enemies) to all enemies in range?

Rubick is the best hero for new players. You get some damage and a stun. You can play support and mid. But most of all, your ultimate allows you to steal skills. When you see an enemy use an amazing spell (whether by effect or looks or whatever), you can steal it, you want to steal it, and thus you learn faster.

spec dispersion doesn't divide its damage amongst enemy heroes any more but the damage is reduced the further away you are

Aquila -> Tranquils -> Linkens is a solid build but might kick in too late, something like Aquila -> Treads -> Diffusal -> Manta has a quicker teamfight presence. It kind of boils down to the tempo of the game. @The whole "I have LoL experience but don't know what I should start with in DotA 2": my only real tip is to not ask DotA players about it. From helping lots of League players getting started with DotA I'd say the usual recommendations like Lich or SK are terrible. Lich doesn't teach mana management at all and someone who has played League on a high enough level (1800+) can comfortably dive into guys like AM or Mirana instead of one of the most boring heroes this game has to offer. What the DotA community loves to underestimate to hell and back is how many skills transfer easily. Whether you had good map awareness, last hitting skills or even proper understanding of positioning in teamfights, that's all stuff you just have to translate a bit and you'll be fine. Raw mechanical things like that don't get lost just because you switch games. The biggest gap in the beginning for someone like that is mostly all-around knowledge (who does what, cooldowns, items, day/night cycle, jungle, juking in general, TPs etc.). In comparison, treating someone who played Broodwar on a high level like someone who has never played an RTS before when you try to teach him SC2 is just plain dumb. There's just too many skills which transfer, especially when you stay in the same genre. The problem with that comparison is that the BW skillset is a superset of SC2's while the skillset of LoL is a subset of DotA's.

just play meepo, 1 match making and 1 game alone to test out. Conclusion is the engine sucks for multi units control. Without boxing and F-keys, its impossible to organize meepo correctly.... Btw, do you rosh with meepo at level 11 or 16?

I don't know why anyone says that DoTA2 doesn't have F keys, I my setup is items on 1 2 3 4 5 6 and then re-bind control groups to F2 F3 etc etc, its not perfect but most of the time once you bind something once DoTA remembers, (like for visage F2 Familiar I F3 Familiar II F4 Both), it usually keeps them.
That said boxing is pretty much broken and needs to be changed from its current form, isn't responsive enough by half.

LoL is far less interactive than dota and the most interactive role in LoL doesn't actually get lane experience so i don't see much use. i guess jungler -> Enchantress might translate pretty well if they can learn to control creeps well. Again, it depends at what level they played LoL. Just saying "I have LoL experience" is virtually meaningless.
It's analogous to trying to teach someone to play BW who said "I have played SC2 before". That has a very different meaning depending in of that's "I was in Grandmaster" or "I couldn't break out of Bronze".
And the fact that DotA is more interactive than LoL is exactly why I'd say a LoL player should learn on one of the more active heroes in the game.

For a game that is otherwise technically very smooth, unit boxing/selection is surprisingly terrible.

Countering TA mid: batrider +1 dual lane middle. Bat jungle pull entire creep wave WHILE stacking, you can deny 4 creeps per min... Mid game rape TA with firefly. Thought? (this only applied if you are on radiant ofc)

Many o' warkeys, but it still was completely different. In dota2 you can buy an item without looking at the shop, hell in one click if you prepare it earlier, press one key and the courier is bringing it to you (there is an option for it). Using bottle is fucked up. And those animations, can't cancel anything as easily as you do in dota2 coz it's so random
