Interviews thanks to CryingPoo!
oGsMC
Q : How do you feel being in the Round of 16?
MC : I feel sorry to Hyperdub. But now I am in the round of 16 again, I will not show disappointing games like the last season.
Q : This is the second time you took down Hyperdub
MC : I feel worse as he is a good friend of mine. However there is not much I can do except for buying him a nice dinner and help him for the up/down matches.
Q : Seems that you have personalized your build orders?
MC : I tried to do the safest opening as possible. The latest trend for Protoss is to mainly use Collosis. But I only made three of them and focused on getting other compositions.
Q : Did you think your games work out well today?
MC : I enjoy blink chasing units and using forcefields to block the route. I am glad that I was able to show both of them today.
Q : What do you think about the new maps?
MC : Before the new maps I think Terrans played easier games. Now it is time for them to stop complaining and realize how easy it was to be a strong Terran player. I don't think new maps favour one race hugely. I think Cravasse favours Terran. The natural expo has only one gas and Terran does not need as much as gas compared to other races. I think I will eliminate Cravasse first for my next PvT.
Q : Who would you like to face in the round of 16?
MC : I have never lost to both Clide and Byun so it does not really bother me who advaces. I am ok with whoever but Zenio. Zenio also said he'd rather face MvP so we will see about that.
Q : Any last words?
MC : I had a flu. I want to thank my coach oGsTheWind for giving me some medicines. I thank Ji-Hoon who also helped me to recover. Also I thank Man-Hyuk Cho and Yun-Sick Choi for helping me practicing.
ST_July
Q : How do you feel after advancing?
July : I had a hard time today. Suppose there is nothing easy though. I was determined to advance with two wins but after I lost my first match, I thought to myself 'I have to face those monsters again...'
Q : Are you disappointed about that first match?
July : I took my second expansion too fast, I was pumping out drones. I lost without a fight.
Q : You won both matches against IMMvP
July : I had another build order prepared for him but I did what I did to see how it would work out. You can call me a bluffer if you want to though (laughs) but in the last match, I planned that.
Q : Seems like you were sure about your winnings
July : Making quick Banelings and Zerglings without making a Queen make this build order. If I do not allow my opponent to scout that and if Terran goes double expo after the first Barrack, I think it's an instant win.
Q : Who do you want to face in the next round?
July : I want to avoid Clide. But I want to face Byun. I want to pay him back.
Q : What is your goal?
July : I wouldn't say to win anymore (laughs). I do not like being down or like that so I always try to be confident. Now my goal is to take a successful step each.
Q : Last words?
July : I thank my teammates who helped me to practice and to fOu team as well.
Byun
Q : First of all, what do you want to say after advancing to the round of 16?
Byun : Good, especially this is my first win in Code S
Q : Did you have any special build order prepared for Zenio?
Byun : Not much. I practised it yesterday and thought it could win Zenio
Q : The game had very up and down moments, how did you feel?
Byun : It was strange at the beginning, but I did not expect Ultralisks to be out so I had a hard time.
Q : When were you sure about winning the match?
Byun : When I destroyed his 5 o'clock expo then straight after when Zenio attacked into my base
Q : Did you prepare Ghosts in advance?
Byun : Yes, I used them on Infestors and they were good. So I used them.
Q : Who do you want to face?
Byun : JulyZerg. I have beaten him once before as well
Q : What is your goal?
Byun : My final goal is to win Code S. And I want to get myself a puppy and to do that I have to be in the quarterfinals.
Q : There is a match between Zenio and Clide, who would like to see advancing?
Byun : I wish Clide wins the match so I can compete him for the first place.
Q : Any last words?
Byun : I thank Gang-Ho Hwang from IM, and Hyun-Seung Tak from MVP and my teammate Jong-Hwan Choi and other fOu team players including In-Su Lee
Clide
Q : How do you feel advancing into the next round?
Clide : I was glad previously now I feel bit numb
Q : You seemed like you had a hard time against Zenio
Clide : He had a better position. I thought he plan to gain more advantage by going into macro games but he attacked me. It was not really the right time to attack so I asked myself 'why is he doing this?'. Zenio is the guy who likes to use Hive units really well so I was worried but I guess I got lucky
Q : Idra left Korea. What is your honest opinion?
Clide : I hope he did not leave the country because of me. I was very rude to him. I hope he did not get a bad impression of Korea because of me. If he comes back to GSL and I have a seed to give, I would defintely choose him.
Q : What about you go overseas to compete?
Clide : If I have a chance I would love to. I recently found out that there are a few foreign fans out there. Through TeamLiquid my game play was casted and I got good feedbacks which surprised me. I am happy that the other side of the world know me.
Q : You will have a game against July, you mentioned earlier that you do not want to face him. I guess you could have taken the game against Byun lightly to avoid him?
Clide : That is what I did. To be honest I think Byun did the same (laughs)
Q : How would you rate July?
Clide : He is really good especially during the tournaments. His judgement is different from any other players.
Q : What is your goal for this season?
Clide : I want to advance into the round of 8. There is just something different to it than the round of 16.
Q : Any shoutouts?
Clide : Young-Un Park coach from SKT1 gave me really good advices for me to become a progamer. I changed my mind because of his advices. He said to me that everybody gets nervous so all you need to do is enjoy the game. I thank my TSL coach Woon-Jae Lee, he always looks after me. I also thank 동래구ProS who helped me behind and Gang-Ho Hawng form IM and to Won-Ki Kim (FruitDealer)

Clide : I hope he did not leave the country because of me. I was very rude to him. I hope he did not get a bad impression of Korea because of me. If he comes back to GSL and I have a seed to give, I would defintely choose him. So mannered lol, almost overly.
Nice interviews though, cheers.

Nice interviews, thanks !
For some reason, The "what is your goal" part reminded me of a certain monty python film, and made me laugh
|
Clide talking about xeph's stream was awesome
|
Lol. Does Clide actually think that way? When i heard his interview live i thought he was joking/trolling.
It's nice to see how all these people are gonna miss IdrA though. Like him or hate him, he brings a whole different colour to the Korean progaming scene
|
yay was looking for these, thanks!
|
Good games, good interview but I can't believe MVP lost
|
Woah, Clide's response about Idra caught me off-guard and even made me feel a bit moved.
Thanks for the trans ;3
|
As I said on my stream thousand times, most of the things between Korean progamers and IdrA were kinds of story-making, and actually it worked. Those stories made me excited.
동래구ProS = DongRaeGuProS = DRG = MVP_DRG = MVP_DongRaeGu
|
Haha Clides so cute apologizing for Idra. I think he might be giving himself more credit though obviously Idra wouldn't leave because ANYBODY in Korea was rude to him lol
|
Glad Koreans are becoming more aware of SC2 outside of their own country. Go Clide!
|
Clide being adorably mannered about IdrA :D It's great to see more Koreans becoming aware of how big the foreigner scene is and how many fans they have outside Korea ^^
Also, Byun vs July rivalry developing? SOUNDS AWESOME :D And I think Byun is my new favourite Terran, I love it when players from smaller teams do well in big tournaments.
I think these were the ideal results for today imo ^^
Thanks for the interviews (gief pics though )

haha clide's stream on xeph's channel was freakin awesome. glad he advanced with such a solid record! on the other hand, what a shock that MVP dropped out already...
|
Hey, I'm quite new here and I searched in the forums but I didn't find anything about that.
What happened exactly between Clide and Idra ? Did they fight ? :D
|
"Q : What is your goal?
Byun : My final goal is to win Code S. And I want to get myself a puppy and to do that I have to be in the quarterfinals."
Best answer. From serious face of winning code S, to a puppy. lol

If he isn't trolling, then that is sickeningly nice of Clide.

clide on the stream was awesome. he seems such a nice guy to appreciate it all like that he said on his twitter hes kinda trying to learn english a bit too. real manner guy

Idra lost so much in Korea...
|
WOW mvp lost to July....insane! gg July!
|
Maybe just speculation, but it's possible that GSL realized how much money foreigners are contributing when Idra & Jinro and all the other foreigners play.
I'm sure Clide is being sincere, but I think maybe he got a nudge from some higher ups to be more mannered to foreigners.
|
uh why are Clide and Byun more scared of July than MC. i mean he is tushin and all sure but surely MCvT is something that should be at the back of every Terran's mind.
|
wut did Clide do to Idra?
|
its crazy that they would rather face MC than July lol. July showing the power of the God of War!
|
Definitely some impressive work by July, and the MVP win i'm sure will boost his confidence, which could be good or bad I suppose.
|
I want Byun to get his puppy! I am now rooting for him in the next two rounds (unless he faces Jinro)
|
Well i think July is the first person to beat MVP in a Best of X Series. And it was 2-0 to boot. MVP's reaction to his loss was very emotional. He wouldn't really act that way if it was just a cheese. I think July really figured out MVP's weakness to play greedy and exploited it. I think he knows and July knows that he got be psychologically. MVP probably had the utmost confidence coming into this match, but he got outplayed (or he felt like he did) and thats why it was a crushing defeat. If it he was cheesed out. I don't think his reaction would be like it was, probably would be more angry. MC is good great, and should be feared but July just rolled over the top player in the world, twice in one night, the same way. I think this will make MVP have to change up his play (someone said it reminded him of when flashed 14CCed every game). Clearly July, has been doing his homework, and will be doing very specific builds that counter their playstyles. Not saying that MC isn't but MC is just good so he doesn't really need to.

Nothing too bad thats public really. He just stated that he wanted to face him in the GSL and beat him because he didn't approve of his attitude. Behind the scenes maybe something else happened but I doubt it. From what Xeph and other have said most Korean pros are pretty ambivalent toward Idra, they just hype up his abrasive persona to get a storyline going.

Like MVP was considered to be playing in his best form(?) coming off a GSL championship, + one of the best TvPs in SC2 (even though it was a loss). July completely stopped him in his tracks. Sorta like how Flash was on a monster tear and Effort, came back down 0-2 to beat Flash. Like Flash was beast then but he got stopped, i think its the same thing here.

Byun said he would rather face July, so maybe Clide's speculation that Byun was taking it easy was a joke. Still surprising since Clide's vP is not great by record at least. Maybe he is being modest just to not fire July up.
Anyway, congrats July! Love to see him win.

You need to check Xeph's progamer restream whenever he's live and you have some time, we had Clide streaming for TL the other day and he even joined the chat to talk a little (MC has done the same)!`
I'm becoming a massive Byun fan hehe, very much like his play and he seems like a cool guy.

He wants to win for a PUPPY! Daaawww, so cute. I could never wish for a puppy to lose.
I feel a bit bad for Clide though, did nobody tell him that idra pretty much only went to the group selections to get him next to the death group of MC/mvp/July?
|
Here's what I think about last night...
+ Show Spoiler +"LOL@Clide". Byun is bm. Toss is imba (MC) Hyperdub is ~Code A material July is God!!! Zenio needs more practice
July vs MVP G1 was one of the most epic games ever!!! Even tho Zenio vs Byun was sorta entertaining and full of action I still can't even compare it to what happened in July vs MVP!!! Like I'm not even sure wtf happened there... it just did... and it was epic!!! Can't wait to see the replay or any sort of cast of that game...
Good Games. Can't wait to see moar!!!
|
Really cool interviews. I hope July wont disappoint in the future, because i love to watch this teddy bear of a gosu to win. And the Clide and Byun interviews were just cool Those guys seem to be really pleasant people.

Before the new maps I think Terrans played easier games. Now it is time for them to stop complaining and realize how easy it was to be a strong Terran player. Lol ^^ I love this guy.
I'm happy that these 4 players advanced, next round is going to be so exciting! By the way Julyzerg's games against Mvp were INSANE. Granted, his loss against MC was a bit awful, but in my opinion he didn't really abuse the map's architecture. I'd say that July's playstyle may not be flawless, but it's definitely unique. Also I like his zergling micro.
p.s.: Aww Clide <3

Its nice to see how much teammates support each other. I have heard MC speak multiple times on how much he wants to avoid a team kill.

MC is such a boss.
I'm still surprised MVP lost to July. Some kind of GSL repeat curse going on?
|
I wonder what would be IdrA's reaction if Clide winned that GSL.
|
NesTea...with MVP out of the way, who will even have a chance to stop you? <3

Hell yeah, July zerg taking out the titleholder in the first round. I am totally cheering for July to go far, my fav zerg in GSL now that idra's gone

i just hope july will get raped in r16, i never felt angry but holy shit, that july vs mvp series made me kinda....aaaa =(

Artosis was off, that's the only reason Clideeeeeeee won :D
|
Clide : I recently found out that there are a few foreign fans out there. TeamLiquid blabla..
waw, sometimes i feel that these guys never spend 5 minutes on anything else than practicing their games. In so many interviews Korean players are like "ho i have no idea that people out of my tiny country play the same game as me."
I know that's kind of exagerated but it seems that a lot of players are not so aware of how starcraft 2 is under the spotlight and how big the scene is.
|

He suspected the bust and still lifted his barracks to make a tech lab...just poor decision making and in Code S those things will cost you the game every time. Their first game was much closer and more entertaining, but the second was just July capitalizing on a mistake, which you would expect from any high level player.
The reason I think so many people are terrified of facing July is 1) He's the god of war, come on, and 2) His play style can be unpredictable and it makes it hard to practice. I have a feeling most Z's on these teams that these guys can practice with don't really give a good insight as to what it's like to play against July.
That said, MC is an absolute badass. Completely dominated both of his games, and while he didn't have to play against MvP I think he could have won that too. Like July, he also played pretty unpredictably, not showing his typical aggressive style and playing extremely safe both games and it paid off.
I feel sorry for Hyperdub because it was such an insane group, but at the same time it's pretty clear that he's not long for Code S. Maybe with some more practice he can get back to where he was around Season 1 when the talent pool wasn't as strong, but I feel like his play is a little too gimmicky to make a strong run into the ro8 or further. Was nice to see him use iEchoic's style against MvP, but the combination of using it on the best Terran in the world and his subpar control made the outcome pretty predictable.
MvP should have no problem in the up/down matches I can't possibly see a scenario where he'll be demoted to Code A. Hyperdub will have a tougher time and I think he really needs to work on some things.
Clide and Byun were both impressive and I think they both deserve to move on. Zenio is always fun to watch but he made some critical mistakes and you can't really get away with that in Code S anymore, even in the ro32 since the players are so strong. Unless he gets a really scary group in the up/down matches I think he can stay in, but he should spend the time practicing...he certainly has a great team house for that.
Thanks for the interviews these guys all seem really well mannered and happy to be playing SC2 on this kind of stage. Here's hoping byun gets his puppy!
|
Would have been funnier to see Clide bm idra even more. It is still funny though that he seems genuinly concerned that IdrA left a country in which he has been living for 3 years because he is so afraid of Clides BM skills.
I love to see these players sharing their thoughts but i do wish for some more probing questions that dont generate such bland answers. Maybe it's just me though.
Thanks for this!

If they're old BW pros, you can't really blame them because there wasn't anything really worth knowing about outside of Korea for BW.
SC2, however, is really catching on in Europe and NA and has some really high-profile tournaments (TSL3 anyone?) to back it up. It's good that they're starting to become aware of that, and trying to learn English is a great step, along with TL inviting the best Korean pros (literally) to the TSL3.
Give it some time, but right now the language barrier and the distance required to travel for foreign tournaments are probably holding them back.

I hope Byun wins GSL to get a new puppy. He could have quite a few possibilities for naming it...
Also, awesome to see Clide acknowledging Team Liquid. Perhaps someday, he'll travel over here and tear up MLG or NASL and perhaps get the tournament win that he has been deserving for so long.
Funny to see Byun and July wanting to face each other, yet Clide intervenes and force them into their unwanted matchups.

That's true, my post sounds a bit pessimistic, but you summarized quite well what will be, i hope, the next step.
I heard that Korean were quite good at english, that most of them understand it really well, but looks like they don't have enought time in their team-houses to learn something else than starcraft.

Haha, most well-educated Koreans can write and read English somewhat decently, but when it comes to listening and speaking, they're pretty bad at it. Of course, like you said, most of these professional starcraft players have little educational background as many of them have dropped out of high school or even middle school (there are exceptions before anyone jumps on me) and hence speak very little English.

Vote Clide for NASL imo. The best chance to see him and Idra play again.

Baneling busts are the only possible cheese zerg can do(and win effectivly) and is scouted extremely easly. How does it feel that even the best terran could not defend the easiest of cheeses(but rarest)? Now imagine 12 banelings can take down a barracks, that would be the equvalent of a 2 rax for zerg in terms of cheese. I think July was playing Zerg that way it was played in SC1. An aggresive race, forcing the opposite race to react to him instead of the other way around. I think his aggresive style is very rare so many terran will not have had expirence against it and will often lose against it. Its stratagy.
|
Man, those new ZeNEX jackets are quite snazzy. Also, nice to see Clide being mannered to IdrA.
|
Thanks for the interview. Glad MC made it through :D
|
"Clide : I hope he did not leave the country because of me. I was very rude to him." classic

After the announcment of NASL I havent really been thinking to highly of GSL. Even though that is where the best players are atm.
|
Wow, Clide giving a totally mannered reply to the IdrA question. He earned some respect from me there. Maybe a bit more from the TL shout-out, though.
Loved the Byun puppy thing!
When I opened Liquibet and saw that MvP didn't advance I almost shit my pants (actually, I'm going to check my chair right now . . . okay, we're good. False alarm, guys.). My mind is, honestly, still blown. But, considering it's the God of War, it's not as unbelievable as it could be.
|
There will be much hate on the person who denies Byun his puppy :D
|
No one's complaining about July's 2nd game vs MVP?? That was much alike Terran's cheeze..
I hate cheeze and panicked for MVP lost T...T
|
I think people are mostly upset because the better player lost. (Yes before you go flaming me, Mvp is the better player.) Still, props need to be handed out because July did exactly what he needed to do; play a style which the opposing player isn't used to and catch him off guard. It's how Jinro took down MC last season (with his mech builds).
|
I wish July would show some emotion.
|
I have a horrible sarcasm/troll radar, but I cannot tell if Clide is serious or not lol.
|
Clide so manner lol :3
If he can show some innovative play I might just have to add him to my small group of favorite players.
|

There's no question that MVP is more accomplished in SC2, but people can dismiss the God of War at their own risk. The oddsmakers had him being eliminated from this group, but unorthodox play, as you put it, gave him a 2-0 against the best Terran in the world.
At the same time, what was MVP thinking lifting his Barracks at that particular point? If he hadn't done that he probably could have held it, but you can count on JulyZerg to capitalize on mistakes like that.
The fact that you can't really practice against his style (because it changes every game lol) will make it extremely difficult for anyone to prepare for him, and I really only see him getting eliminated early if he gets a ZvZ, which is his worst match up by far.

I think I will eliminate Cravasse first for my next PvT. fuckin :D this is how i felt, but my feelings have less worth than a guy like this so hearing that from MC made my day. actually it didn't, getting Wingstop in an hour will make my day.
but this alleviated the gayness of doing ochem hw. back to that =[

Rooting for byun to ro8. He will get that puppy

Clide is awesome, and July too. I thought he performed so much better than he did in Code A in his mirror matches. Looks like he's back to own the scene and wow... I'm quite sad that MVP and Hyperdub are out. They are both good terrans and especially MVP... Anyways, GL July and Clide.
|
No way Clyde was being well mannered when speaking about Idra I think you guys are reading it wrong, I think hes being absolutely sarcastic... its wishful thinking though that he doesn't actually hate Idra I would like that.. If he says he would chose him again out of pure respect for his skills and ambition to "win" him
|
Koreans so manner. Im actually getting more and more annoyed idrA left before playing his group.

for 2000 euro he will get the most truebred, pedigreed, full-blooded dog ever. but i love my crossbred dog from the animal shelter for 0 euro (it was a puppy as well when i got it)

It's funny how whiners whine about July "cheesing" when making specifically tailored builds against strong progamers has been a part of SC since BW. MVP was just playing cocky as usual, and this time it backfired.

However there was more beneath the surface in ST_July's builds than all-in rushes. He pulled them off quite good and even if MvP wouldve landed his barracks perfectly I think July would've won.
I think it's about time Terran stop acting like an OP race with 125016 ranged units and realize every race can do powerful pushes.

Heh, as far as I'm concerned if you're (arguably) the best Protoss in the world, you can say whatever you want about balance whether its true or not. There's no question he's got balls.
And Terran really did dominate the korean scene for a while...it's calmed down a bit so I think it was probably just people being unable to figure out the popular Terran styles.

That's cause Terran are the easiest race to pick up and be good at, then Toss, then Zerg being the hardest. So a good player to pick up Terran will more than likely be a stronger player quicker than if they picked up Zerg or Toss, as it's easier to get the hang of. Buuuut i hate Terran on principle, and i heart MC so i suppose i'm pretty biased =) Goooooooo MC!
