Gainward StarCraft 2 Tournament presented by Absolute Korea will be starting on December 12th.
With total prize pool of ~$8,600, anyone with Korean Battle.Net account can participate (must be in Diamond 1v1 League)

Participation Info
- Requirements: Must be at least 12 years old with Korean Battle.Net account and in Diamond 1v1 League
- Number of participants: 768 Players (ladder score will determine who will be on the final player list if there are lot of applicants) Deadline for ladder score will be 12/6 (Mon) @19:00 KST
- Register between: 11/26 (Fri) ~ 12/5 (Sun) (10 days)
- How to register: Become a member of PlayXP then use the registration page on PlayXP

Tournament Format
- Single Elimination
- Online preliminary rounds: 24 groups starting with 32 players each (Best of 3)
- Offline final rounds: 64 Players from online preliminary rounds (Best of 3 except Semi-Final/Finals which will be Best of 5)
- Offline location: Sindorim Intel E-Sports Stadium (Same Location as GSL Qualifiers)

While designation as a "prestigious" tournament may be affected by the prize pool, I'm not sure how relevant that is to the "epic play" you're referring to.. the seeded players alone look to be enough for fairly high levels of play.. I don't think 김원기 will start playing at gold level because the prize pool isn't as big as that offered in the GSL ^^;

Come to think of it, I think you mean that the prize pool is too small to entice some of the bigger names in SC2 to play, but I afaik there aren't any other money tournaments (besides GSL) atm in Korea.. I could be wrong!

Huk and Jinro are in the same group (16), which by the way is pretty stacked. Cella, GuineaPig and Terious are on this group too.

Haypro is on group 10, which includes our beloved kkoma, IMMvp, sanZenith and TheWind, among lesser known others.

Ret is on group 22 along with the likes of Inca, OdinMvP, Zenio and VINES.

Luffy is on 23, and I only recognized Hyperdub's name there. Guess they are lucky.

fever(Dai Yi) as far as I know is Loner, and he's on group 11 together with Clide and sCfOu. By the way, Clide proved himself again to be the most unlucky player ever by drawing sCfOu on his very first match. He could very well be out after just one game T,T

EDIT: My bad, I mistook NEXLuffy with Luffy, sorry. Luffy the chinese player is on group 1, along with 31 players I can't recognize.

Sen, I'm almost sure isn't in Korea atm. It looks like Select is in the tournament, unless that's someone else with the same name. Select considers himself Korean, so I see no reason for him to be mentioned as a foreigner.

nada, along with the 7 other koreans listed in the OP, is seeded directly into the round of 32, so he doesn't have to play the prelims. 1 player will come out of each of the 24 preliminary groups to join those seeds to form the final bracket. so haypro is currently in the ro16 of the preliminaries, and if he wins his prelim bracket he'll be in the ro32 of the overall tournament.

also i'm nearly positive there is no stream of the qualifiers. although it's possible the participants are streaming their own matches, that would in all likelihood be on afreeca.

yeah I'm assuming that there's no cast for the qualifiers, but crossing my fingers for casts once the ro32 starts.
on a somewhat related note I miss Gisado, I haven't been able to watch since he switched over to gom because the korean site doesn't work with my computer for some reason.

It fills the gap between the GSLs nicely ^^. Gisado recently had 신정민 (he goes by 스타테일무작위왕.. ST.randomking??) casting with him and he's hilarious. Also gives some nice insight on the game. Speaking of casters, what I found that was interesting is that Gom has apparently conducted an open recruitment for casters. There are two new guys that cast with Gisado now, who do most of the play by play and Gisado takes on the role of the analyst. Yeah, when Gisado was on livestream it was anywhere between 500-1000 viewers at a time, just depending on the day. Not many, but it was increasing until it ended. I have a feeling if people knew more about it and the quality of players that participate, they would watch even more. I feel like a Korean commentator, even if you don't speak Korean, is better than just plain music, as most streamers do. Interesting note on the new casters, I was wondering if they were planning to cast all the matches in like the code A tournaments etc. If they have those new casters it's definitely possible, at least in Korean. I don't know if you follow Gisado on twitter, but it seems like a good place to get news on his cast. http://twitter.com/#!/onlygisado

With find and replace tool and playxp, it wasn't too much work besides bolding all the names. I'm hoping to bug a CS friend of mine to make a little program/file that'll replace hangul names with known anglicized names or translations, that should open up this kind of thing to western audiences a bit better.

I am actually happy to see other tournaments than the GSL happening in Korea, but I doubt they'll show this since the provider will need to pay Gretech for the broadcasting rights.

Saying that the prize money won't attract the "good" players is wrong. If you watch Go4SC2 for example, you also see the "european" pros participating for even less money.

It isn't really shocking, as many of these unknown players in pro teams who haven't done well in a or I daresay even qualified for a GSL are comparable in skill to these players. Losing a Bo3 to another player who probably isn't much worse than you are isn't impossible.

Im not so surprised at MC's lost. There'r tons of really good players who didnt make to any GSL, not to mention the game is still fairly new so skillgap is not too big or can be reduce quite fast.
On a side note, Startale surely has some hidden gems like Virus, Bomber or this Curious dude

It's the actual StC, somebody said earlier that if he makes it through qualifiers he has to cede his spot due to army restrictions though.
