I think just the fact that Republican voters seem to like historically consistent Republican perspectives. Since the 1980s, Trump has made very large campaign contributions to both major parties. Furthermore, he's changed his political affiliation several times in the past 30 years, from being a member of the Democratic party, to the Republican party, to the Reform party, back to being a Democrat, then Republican, then Independent, and now finally a Republican again.
