This is Primadog live from Dolby LAN. It's three hours since open and we have not yet finished Round 1 of this $1000 LAN. It's the same old song and dance:

Most of the computers cannot access Bnet, WoW, or SC2. We're now crippled and on the verge of canceling the lan. Please help!
It took 4 hours but we're live. Thanks everyone for your help. The tournament would be bo1 as result of the delays.

We are doing everything we can to try to resolve this issue in every venue of contact possible and keep the lan going. Someone out there, please help if you can.
Thank God and gunrun.

Did you plan it with Blizzard, so they allow multiple connections from 1 location

This is sad The latest hard example of how this online only system sucks ass. We run into lots of issues with people being wireless-compatible or being able to get hard-lined at our local for-fun LANs all the time. And there's often a limit to how many connections can be on the router or internet etc. It's too bad that Blizzard stares these problems in the face and thinks "Oh well" with no further thought or open-mindedness to it anymore.

You should call them. I think that's usually what everyone in this position does. Terrible shame that this always happens though

That really sucks. It could be a battle.net issue. During the Winter Assembly finals that were just played, there were two instances of players/observers being dropped from the game (Stephano on Metal, dApollo on Korhal).

Sorry, but what is Blizzard doing to prevent this? They limit the amount of b.net connections from a single IP? How many is it?

wow the internet seems messy today, servers in some mmos down, twitch lagging on some resolutions, and bnet disconnects.
Hope it fixes itself fast for you. Can't help more :/

Blizzard claims that if you get a tournament license then they'll whitelist your IPs so you can connect without any limits. Obviously they didn't here and screwed the tournament.

Wait if many people play StarCraft from one location do they automatically shutdown the service of bnet to your house?

Even blizzard's own tournaments have bnet access shut down to them usually. Don't hope for too much help from them.

Yeah, this is bad PR for blizzard, especially since you did as required and registered... I almost went to this but overslept and saw the post about if I wasn't there by 9 I wouldn't get to play. Sad to see that the event might not even go down anyway, but I would be even more upset if I had made the drive.

A lan center with 100 entries and about 50 PCs. We scheduled for tournament to start 10 PST. Soon after Round 1 initialized we start experiencing Bnet issues. Now most computers cannot connect to bnet at all, either to SC2 or wow, (the play offline error).

* We registered the tournament and requested white-list
* there are no technical difficulty or isp issues
* all other sites are accessiable, we're now watching mlg to pass time
* have been contacting Blizzard by phone, email, and through our friends of friends to try to get it resolved.

It's now 3 and half hour since tournament official start time. We still can't finish off round 1.
Thank God and gunrun.

Old interview with Dustin Browder. (9th februaru 2011, THAT old )

Dustin: I think we're just excited to be a part of it. Esports has been played in a variety of different games over the years but our fans really took to StarCraft and Brood War, and really took off with that and showed us, and I think many people out there in the world, what eSports could truly be. It's just been absolutely exciting to watch what the fans have done with our products and all of the amazing amount of effort they put in, in order to make it work. And then for us, having seen that happen in Brood War, and then again in WarCraft 3, we just put as much effort as we could into making StarCraft 2 a platform that could hopefully be a very successful eSport which would sort of capture the imagination of fans and broadcasters around the world.

When the fuck will Blizzard and Dustin realize that the reason those other games did well was because they themselves stayed the fuck out of it? Blizzards business-model of this nazi-like DRM called Bnet 2.0 is bad, their totalitarian EULA for SC2 isn't helping either.

Blizzard is NOT a friend of Esport. If that was the case they'd stick to making the game and leave everything else up to the fans and people that know their shit.

A yes to Esports is a No to Blizzard.

To the OP I suggest you guys demand compensation from Blizzard for ruining the event for you. If you indeed had contact with them before the tournament and everything was in order it is clear that they fucked up. And if their fuckup hurt you guys economically in any way, have Blizzard pay. It's their 1984-like control of SC2 that is causing all this shit.
Life is like animal porn... It's not for everyone

All of those computers weren't on the same IP. Almost all major colleges assign a unique ip address to every computer on the network. Colleges own giant blocks of IP addresses for this reason.

For a lan event like this, most of the computers are probably on one or two IP addresses. Blizzard doesn't like it when 20 accounts try to connect from the same IP.

I believe I just read something of a guy who just made it so you can do SC2 on LAN, for small tournies I would look into that.
