For the longest time, I stubbornly resisted the transition from BW to SC2. To me, what was SC2 but just another cheap knockoff of the game that defined years of my life? The late nights staying up rooting for Bisu, Flash, and Jaedong in the OSL, the connection I felt to the players – I thought it could never be recreated.
Uell, I was wrong. I love SC2.
1. Cooler units in SC2
-Kick-ass-ness: The Goliath may be a giant robot suit, which is cool and all, but come on guys – the Thor? Fucking giant robot gundam suit doesn’t give a fuck. Shit’s cash. Nothing beats Thors except more Thors.
-Kick-ass-ness 2: Ultralisks actually look ultra in this game. Nice and fat. Not some deformed cow shit.
-Interesting units: Banelings. They blow up. Not like Infested Terrans and Scourge, but they actually blow up instead of running around with dumbfuck AI and then get killed without doing anything.
-Actual alien feel to Protoss: Colossus? Mothership? Void Ray? Shit’s straight out of War of the Worlds. The races have a much more unique and distinct identity in SC2, or at least Protoss does. Terran is same as always, OP as fuck. Zerg is meh.
2. New blood: We get a chance to see players from other ESPORTS like WC3 switch over, as well as a new generation of SC players. It keeps things fresh, and SC2 has a chance to be a truly global, long-living ESPORT.
3. “Terrible, terrible damage,” or, more memes and catchphrases: Now, memes are potentially a very bad thing when overused and abused, but in the case of SC2, it brings the community closer together. Day9’s Trumpets, Destiny’s stream antics, Idra (or should I say the Gracken?) rage, are just few of many examples of ways the community has bonded over seemingly banal events
4. Excitement(related to new blood) Let’s be honest – watching Broodwar get dominated by the same handful of Koreans repeatedly gets old. In SC2, we can see foreigners go toe to toe with Koreans, and taking their fair share of tournament wins. Instead of MC and MVP winning everything, we can see foreigners on foreign teams like Hero and Puma win tournaments too!
Hey, I don't blame you - I was a former BW elitist myself and was even unhappy for a bit when SC2 was announced. But now, after watching so much GSL, I can't get enough of SC2 and consider it a superior game!!
I played Brood War, and I never really understood much of it until right around when SC2 entered Beta.
I heard stories of Boxer's rise and fall, the Bonjwas, the magic of Savior and the unbridled awesome of Flash. But these to me were just stories, there was no magic there for me.
But then something happened, StarCraft 2 came out and I began to watch some pro games here or there. But then something happened, I watched Fruit Dealer defy all odds and do something awesome. I know what you mean about having that connection to the players and feeling something in my chest when my favorite player comes up to bat. I love this game, to me it means more than BW ever will outside of that nostalgic feeling of course. The return of legends like Boxer allows me to re-live these old stories as something new, something I relate to. They're not stories anymore to me, it's real and happening. It's the Brood War that I never had.
Recently, with word of BW players transitioning to SC2, I decided to watch a few player streams. It's a lot of fun, I wish I hadn't judged it so harshly because I was bad in Season 1, and it was SUPER imbalanced. I'm probably top 5 BW fanboys on Team Liquid but I really feel like SC2 has a lot more good in it that we are willing to see, especially now with the game a lot more balanced out.
It's about time BW elitists started taking off their blinders and really gave this game a chance, instead of shitting on it because it's not Brood War.

If his post was meant to be taken seriously then I just got meta-trolled.
Is this OP irony? I can't completely be sure, some of your choices for arguments are just... I could easily see them used exactly for the opposite case. Especially suspicious of that final phrase: "we can see foreigners on foreign teams like Hero and Puma win tournaments too!" , which is obviously not the best example for foreign wins, there were some by foreigners who didn't even prepare in Korea at the time (Stephano, Idra while in the US).
Well the OP is pretty good and I agree with you on some notes but you are like bassically dissing BW in a lot of the things you said, and I'm sure this is going to cause a shit storm because of BW vs SC2 that is bassically going on in the OP, cool that you love sc2 though
Glad to see a thread full of love instead of negativity, and it's even more heart warming to see people love BW and SC2. See, guys? There's room in your hearts for both. :D

Read back a couple posts.... you are going to be very disappointed....
I was never really a BW fan, and came to Starcraft through SC2 first. I love Starcraft 2, but as I get more and more into BW, I am finding ways to appreciate it as its own artform.
Hey, guys, you don't have to diss BW so much. I'm so glad it's finally dead and we can move on to a game which actually has graphics, but it was actually an okay game for 1996.

BW was awesome, but looking back at it as far as spectating makes me wonder how i could watch it for so long. watching the great players is still awesome, but its god awful ugly. the game is so old. needed an upgrade.
I agree, and I love SC2 too, but imo, SC2 Protoss voices are way too human-like. They were a lot more "alien-ish" in BW.

You aren't being serious, are you? A game that is a national sport in a country and probably has more popularity in one country alone than SC2 does in the world is dead? What am I seeing :S.
Sometimes I get sad that you cant upvote threads, but I suppose TL should remain TL. This thread though, I would most certainly upvote, and I feel like we need more of these threads

For the love of me I don't see how this helps anything other than for BW fans to get some chuckles at the expense of SC2.
Uh, I would just prepare for troll posts from SC2 fans in BW forums now, maybe not good troll posts but still.
Curious that someone who appears to be an esteemed member of TL would post something that could be seens as inflammatory between BW and SC2.
Knowing that its a troll now, it is a bit funny, but still shows an elitism I've rarely seen here on TL, especially since I've heard TL being notorious for it.
So now the question is if there is any reaction from SC2 fanboys to this post.
Heavens, SC2 and SC:BW are different which is a good thing, I know some people wanted an updated graphical version of SC:BW but oh well.
Except that would've been a cop-out, really 60 bucks for a graphical overhaul, this isn't Madden come on now (although I'm guessing a lot of BW fans would actually want that).
Even with this being a troll post it brings up a good point about memories and connections between players, which you have with BW and others have with SC2 now.
Potentially the synergy that could and should form between the SC2 and SC:BW community is awesome, I mean come on it would be, more fans for BW, a better appreciation for the legendary game and BW fans wouldn't have to worry about social stigma if they even like SC2 just a little bit.
I couldn't resist copying the OP's brilliant OP ^_^ But really is there a reason BW fans have to look down there noses at SC2 and SC2 fans have to rag on BW for being old and outdated... aren't both great games with huge followings to advance E-Sports further throughout the world. I just don't get it BW is a great game, I enjoyed playing it and watching it, but I enjoy SC2 more (shock, gasp, how could he?). Maybe it's because I didn't grow up watching BW and thus watched SC2 first. Now watching pro BW is fun and interesting but just isn't the same to me. Let's agree to disagree and just admit to each other both are great games and if you really do not like BW or SC2 but are a fan of the other than just keep it to yourself or not make troll posts to further inspire more troll posts.
Troll thread aside, I've always felt lucky to be able to enjoy SC2. Since BW kind of wound down with no more MSL and a lull period for OSL there's really only PL which leads to a butt load of free time that I can happily fill with SC2. It's great to have more options, sometimes I'll even pass on that nights PL matches for GSL. I also don't have to feel all depressed if/when players switch over because I'm easily able to follow their new journeys. I feel a little bad for those who have to be bitter about it all the time.
Maybe he meant that the sc2 scene mostly are made out of all non koreans, so Hero and Puma are koreans hence they are foreigners on a foreign team . Too early to label CSheep as troll .

Starcraft forever!!!
You could just follow WC3 scene as well. SC2 didn't give me anything that WC3 didn't.
