'Communicative discourse' returned no forum hits, and so I assume that the term is either extremely pompous and pretentious or has no recognized place in the annuls of sc commentary. Probably a little bit of both. In any case, I just wanted to introduce you all to this concept in the name of hopefully leaving tomorrow a slightly better place because the SC community is a bit more helpful.

Like 90% of the visitors to this site, I have trolled these forums for months with nary a post or response. I am sure TL staff is well aware of this phenomena. I am equally confident that TL would be better if more people posted. They do not because some of you are assholes. Indeed, the environment of speculation, experiment and creation caused by the representation of a diverse body of viewpoints and world views in TL discussions is ipso facto good for all of you. The TL environment would greatly benefit from the participation of more of these visitors.

This environment constitutes the limiting parameters of our communicative discourse,
which is the governing condition through which the interplay of ideas creates knowledge. The communicative discourse of this community delimits its pedagogical efficacy by reinforcing norms of strategy that prevail amongst it's vocal and contributing members, who by no means are winning GSLs just yet. This efficacy is both enhanced by and enhances the ability of a numerically larger amount viewpoints to be expressed, in a manner consistent with the western obsession with free speech, and that sort of thing.

This point is perhaps disputable in the context of an intrinsically complex game that rewards the transmission of knowledge in the form of skill. The quality of the SC communicative discourse, it is argued, is negatively affected by the influence of lessor skilled players, who should therefore be discouraged from offering advice or opinions.

Such a skill variable is conspicuously absent from TL profiles, and therefore an unverifiable basis for making skill a bona fide qualification reasonably necessary for the function of a TL post.

Moreover, there is no single strategy that can be said to be dominant in any form in such a game as this (despite claims of OPness or whatever), and therefore such a bias is nothing more than an expression of self-loathing at a personal limitation that makes the community insular and annoying.

What you post and say here has an ethical component because it intrinsically affects the pedagogical environment constitutive of the prevailing benefit any TL reader can derive from the conversation, and not just your own masturbatory self gratification.

So please, from a reader growing sick of your immature and unhelpful hurling of insults, of your illogical and inane complaints of the dominance of one race over another, of your worst members incredibly insular attitude--you are qualified to comment on a replay you have not watched why?-- stop fighting on the internet, make rational arguments, and let the less skilled amongst you contribute, because at one point in time you sucked just as bad.

Heres a really nice flowchart for guidance of when to post: http://thoughtcatalog.com/2011/a-flowchart-of-the-internet-argument-to-end-all-internet-arguments/

Wow. I just read your whole post and have no idea what you are trying to contribute to the "communicative discourse." people should give thought to their posts before they write them instead of posting on a whim. i think that is what you are trying to say. i dont think you needed your thesaurus to get that simple point across.

Yes, thats part of the point. More important, however, you should not chastise my liberal use of large words because it makes you an asshole, and because such behavior is unethical.

Do you want this post to actually achieve something or are you just publicly announcing that you're taking the moral high ground?

There are always going to be negativity or trolls within any community. It is the jobs of the opposites of these kinds of people to try and negate it

dAPhREAk, I did; you are acting juvenile and insular, and are therefore an asshole. I am sorry you do not understand what I am saying. To everyone else, dAPhREAk here illustrates the exact behavior which prompted such a post, which I am arguing with only for the purpose of illustrating my point.

Sounds like you just read a textbook from one of the classes I took on organizational behavior where the authors use a bunch of academic terms and mumbo jumbo to say something that is simple and very easily understandable. That way students can regurgitate the academic terms on an exam to prove they have learned something when no actual learning took place.

All that to say; this is the internet, not a university classroom and people will behave as such.

edit: I think I was successfully trolled. How sad.

I suppose both. I do not usually post, I am just annoyed. I want to persuade people to follow the guidelines TL posted referenced above, and some people need to hear a rationale to do so. It is public (sort of), so it is also me announcing that I think we should all take such a moral high ground. Also, its kind of an amusing argument to make, and that was another reason to make it.

Agreed.

But I think the basis of what is saying is that he wants trolling to end. Sort of a discourse to stop trolling.

yeah. i thought as much. im glad to hear you found thesaurus.com but it's really not necessary to come spout off on tl.net as soon as you learn a few new words.

For someone with a Nietszche quote in their sig you sure seem easily offended, wheres the nihilist shrugging off of inane use of language? Oh yeah, you use the phrase "communicative discourse" and related terms as though you just sat through a Comm 101 class and fell in love with the vocabulary, your attempt at intellectual bravado means well but falls short. Besides, magicjack sucks bro.

Yes, people will behave like this when there is no means to hold them accountable for such behavior. Modern web designs incorporate some means of personal identity verification in order to do this, but this community has to regulate itself. I do not know if there is a more prescient means of demonstrating the acquisition of a concept than to apply it to a SC forum. I am a troll, like the vast majority of readers.

It's nice that you're telling people to follow the forum posting guidelines, but I think we should clear this matter up now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

I think you are misconstruing the meaning of "troll." Instead, the more proper term used in place would be "lurk." The act of trolling is to post controversial and offensive posts in an attempt to gain a reaction, while lurking can be seen as the complete opposite. Lurking is when you join a forum (or any other community really), and just read other people's posts instead of posting yourself.

I disagree with your stance on teamliquiders. You don't need to be in grandmasters to understand the fundamentals behind the game. Also, the strategy forum is heavily moderated, therefore any blatantly wrong advice-posts will be warned. It's not as bad as you think. Adding player level in profiles would result in derogatory posts made towards the lower level players who try to participate in the community. Have you not seen what the official SC2 forums look like?

One final note: for someone who writes so strongly from a reader's standpoint, have you ever thought about using language less verbose to communicate your point? This is an international community, and while English is the major language used here, it is not the first language of many intelligent or high level posters on TL.

This picture was already posted in the Funny pics thread.

Also, mods ban trolls pretty quickly, as you may soon find out. They are doing their best to keep this place awesome
