Just went on a 11 game losing streak on Monday after taking a break and watching mlg/ufc. What do you guys do after playing poorly and what do you do to make a comeback and make up for your loses?? Dropped about 150 points and about 30 ranks so I just played a lot of world of tanks yesterdays.

If i take a break then I end up not touching the game for maybe a week or two. I go on to play other games that I have.

I just take a break, it doesn't matter what I do during the break. My breaks can last an hour or a day it depends on my mood.

Just play some custom games, cheese the fuck out of someone and get your mojo back. It's like a "slumpbuster".

I smoke a woodtipped black n' mild, drink coffee from my huge mug, and watch some starcraft 2 streams. After I cool off I open up the Yet Another Build Order Tester and make sure my builds are 100% down. Then I go online to try again. If my friends wanna do 2v2s then do those, but if no one is on then I do 1v1s again.
I underestimated that boy. No... it was not the boy I underestimated, it was the Triforce of Courage.

i personally can't end on a losing note like that... i would keep playing (even on mass tilt) until i win.

if its really bad i use a cheese strat to pull off a quick win then quit for the day.

Go on forums and complain how every race is OP even mirror games are Op. Or you can try to play some team games, some 2v2 3v3 4v4, kind of like.. if you cant beat them, join them.
no way

After a long losing streak I make some coffee and have a smoke.

Then I nerdrage and punch my girlfriend until I feel better. (Kidding >.> )

Just take a break for a bit and calm yourself down, then go back to playing if you feel the urge.

Take a chill pill, toke a spliff, relax and play some custom games. Working out is also great to get rid of some stress from losing, push-ups, sit ups, lifting some weights etc.

Come back in an hour and continue to ladder :D

Each time I lose 5 in a row, I go play custom games for about 30min. Then I come back and watch my 5 replays at 2x speed and mostly watch the income tab... cause most of the time it went wrong cause of it and than go back to playing another 5... which will normaly result in more wins.

but in any case, NEVER stop playing for a long period of time since you're not improving at all.

Bahaha.

The key is to not tilt. If you tilt, go play some Nexus wars or go for a run.

i just lost a ZvT cause i went ultraling and outdid my opponent in everything, macro, micro. took out his first army, why did i lose? well he built 1 SINGLE command center inside his army of 20 fully upgraded tanks and thors.

i could do nothing.

rage was had.

i played the custom game Defend the Moon, it works wonders. i've totally forgotten the loss. but 2 days ago i had a 7 streak and what i did was just take a walk. totally forgot everything

I usually take a break for a few hours, I don't want to play 'on tilt' or whatever. Then I'll review the replays I lost and see what mistakes I made, usually do better after that.

It's never fun to lose, but imo just look at losing in a different way. Sometimes, if I want to practice vs T, I might quit a few ladder games til I get T. The point is, don't play for points or rank, but to just get better. As day9 would say, those 11 games you lost are all arrows pointing you in a different direction, or X amount of ways not to play. Even if you feel you played well and lost, you learned something. Watch your replays, find something you did wrong and improve on it. To me, improving is more fun than winning [:

I've found the best way to break a losing streak (no matter how bad it is) is to switch to Terran.

I've found that the best way is to switch to Zerg, cause then you're allowed to say stuff like "goddamn OP terran, play a real race" or something like that Then i lie to myself that zerg is the reason i lost

Just kidding lol

Usually i just play MW2, which makes me realize how good of a game SC2 is :D

This isn't poker or some sort of activity that causes severe financial or physical health should you continue to lose. Just keep grinding away, watch replays to analyze why you are losing, and focus on keeping emotions in check. Remember it's just a game =)

Getting outside and going for a walk or hitting the gym is the best stress reducer when your raging. Getting away from the game and doing some athletic activity even if its walking and listening to a podcast. It is amazing how much it will relax you. I do not think watching your replay's until you are in the right frame of mind will do you any good. Also, try to play some non-ladder against people better than you and go in and do our best build. It will show you how the people higher are likely to counteract you, and you can start playing the chess game and start to get a move or 2 ahead of them.

I also agree stopping for more than a couple of days can be very negative as it can be amazing how quickly your skills begin to erode.

Haha this is a funny thread. After I lose a handful of 1v1s I'll play some 3s or 4s with some of my bad friends. That's always fun because I just cheese like crazy and don't really worry about losing in that. It always seems to get my head right and allows me to analyze my losses more objectively when I'm done.

What i've found is that losing streaks tend to come from some sort of stubbornness.

Like for instance: if you lose one game for being too defensive and just let them out macro you next game, the next game you'll be like shit i don't want to lose. So because you don't want to lose, you start playing super defensively. Then they win again. And then you become afraid, and you lose the mentality of play that you have when you're at your best, and are instead in a "i really don't want to lose" mentality.

Like it becomes more "okay, I don't want to lose to mass hydras" and then next game it's like okay shit i lost again, this time I have to prepare for hydras AND mutalisks. And then next game you're like shit okay I have to prepare for hydras, mutalisks, AND broodlords or whatever.

Whereas in your prime you have a gameplan. In your prime you think "this game i'm going to go zealots and stalkers, then transition to HTs. Gotta keep my macro up, gotta keep my micro up, gotta pay attention to the minimap" and you try to execute your plan as well as you can.

My losing streaks are always because I'm too afraid of losing. Don't worry so much. Don't try to make up for a loss by playing differently than your best, with cheese or all-ins. Just always play your best, and the MM system should give you at least a 50% win ratio.

Losing streams on ladder can be really frustrating. There's nothing wrong with continuing as long as it's not becoming emotionally infuriorating. As mentioned above, it's not like there is money on the line, even if you are losing you can still be working on getting better.

I did however once 0-9 myself on ladder and got exceedingly frustrated. In order to get over this, it was a break to watch day9 and to play some buddies in 1v1 where there would be no kind of pressure!

Hmm after I lose 3 games in a row or however long it takes for me to be flustered/frustrated/raging whatever I take an hour or so break and then come back to play. Normally after that my composure is back and I and up tearing shit up and playing god like.

Probably just me but if your getting really really angry after a few losses take a break trust me its better then losing 6 more games due to being angry and playing dumb
When I think of something else, something will go here

Understand that SC is a game of high variance and losing in unavoidable. Just look at bnet ladder stats and you will see that over a large sample, you are considered a good player if you just win 50%+ percent of the time. So in reality you are going to be losing half the time and its expected.

You know what? I actually tried that (main = protoss), after a real nasty losing streak against terran. Though I didn't win, I got a build off my opponent in that TvP, and been using that build ever since, facerolling the majority of my PvT games.

I will play on EXTREME TILT until I somehow pull out a win with half-assed cheese. Not proud of it, but I tilt so bad in this game. Have decided to really try and stop doing it, tho, but dunno if I can... judging from poker and other games, it's just kinda what I do when things go bad.

Just had a 9 game loss streak. It started by me trying to cheese for fun, then it didn't work and I tried again. Didn't work. Then I just got reaaally stubborn and kept cheesing and losing for 9 straight games, losing over 100 points. Brilliant!
Hmmm, I wonder what terran is doiAAAAARGH BANSHEEEEES

I think about my losses, what I should have done, and then come back the next day and go on a win streak.

I'm trying to improve my outlook in this a lot... I lost 6 games in a row - I put so much effort into each of them, tried to fix all my shortcomings, but I just lost decisively each time. I was bitching about them to my girlfriend who sadly said "you haven't smiled in a long time..." and I realize that I let my losses get to me too much

Losses can feel really helpless sometimes. I lost a ZvZ to baneling micro, so I said I'll try to do better at that. I lost to a scouted 4gate push on Xel'Naga Caverns and I said I'll try to get faster hydras instead of building more roaches. I'll lose to a timing MMM push, so the next match I have better scouting to watch their army. Then I lose to 2 cloaked banshees and a viking to shoot my overseers. It's very frustrating.

I made the analogy that it's like I'm exhausted because I just ran the best I could in a marathon.. and finding out I came in dead last. No pleasure whatsoever - I put my best out there and it was beaten into oblivion.

I dunno what the solution is... not just 'stop caring' because I have a competitive mindset and I want to win. I guess take a break for a bit, then come back and look at the replays and try to identify mistakes of mine and just improve those?

Watch the replay of how you lost that will more effectively stop your chances of losing in the same way.

I take breaks like every two games and do something else at least for a few mins. It gives my mind a quick rest, then I'm right back into it.

I just don't know what to do now...I haven't played in a week, and because of inactivity I went from rank 20 to 70. I was going to play to get myself higher up on the ladder, but my first match was a 50min game where the opponent just raped me with hellions, thors, marines and tanks. Even though I had mapcontrol and many more bases I still lost...I'm REALLY angry.

After that I played a game against protoss where I just played badly...fuuuuuu....

Turn off ingame music, turn on some good music. Try to play the game and time your moves to the music. It's awesome!

I play some 2v2 with random companion... I'm placed in silver (or something like that) so it gives me opportunity to play some casual games / try new race / new builds / fend of some rushes (dear god I can't remember last time I saw zerg in silver that didn't go 7-9 pool)

Win. Otherwise its still a nasty losing streak.

Pretty much this.

I can't stop unless the last game I played was a win

My thoughts.

End the streak, and then you're on a 1-win streak.

About 2 weeks ago i would always go on like 6-7 loosing streaks. I found that the MOST important thing is just keeping your cool and not getting mad. I just go for a smoke chill out for a bit haze it up, And im all good.

If i lose in 1v1 I always watch the replay until I can give myself a good answer to why I lost(ie. got money stacked up, out expoed, bad strategic call), and I will not touch another game until I convince myself that I WOULD have won had I just done what I thought of. That usually breaks me out of a losing streak...

I Never touch the herbstalk on a losing streak, or even while playing 1v1(to a limit)...too many times in BW, WC3 and SC2Beta I would lose a couple in row after a J or 2(ok maybe 8 hours of blazing, but still), get frustrated and proceed to get extremely stoned, thus resulting in me throwing more games to the wind. You may think your concentrating more but in a game that is mostly about quick thinking and reactions, your high ponderings will usually leave you with an L...the irony kills me :D

Save the ganjjiii for when your playing 2v2 or after you are done, much better to be high when you can just let yourself go and relax...

I started to warn people for terribad 1 line posts.. but then I realized that was the entire thread.

It's like that video of kerrigan realizing she cannot shoot all the zerglings/hydras so she just drops her gun and glass eye stares at the sky.
