We didn't get to see what happened before the african guy started choking the dead guy but I think it's safe to assume that they used excessive force in detaining them. Unless he's running away or actually attacking someone there's really no need to put your hands on him.

only scenario i can think of is the guard following them, and giving proper authorities on their whereabouts.
this went out of hand, security guards jobs are meant to keep the store secure.

This is messed up, something seriously needs to be done with the security system there to avoid messy and unnecessary issues like this. I highly doubt those guards were "trained" to tackle anyone who they think is shop lifting.

But it is not the place of a security guard to assault someone. If the situation is that out of hand then they should of just called the cops and let them deal with it.

For no reason? The guard were obviously retraining the person, the deaf guys are the ones going nuts, dont jump the gun and say

As for : why the crowd DIDNT intervene, what if the guard were restraining a murderer, or maybe a rapist and a crowd gathered, and if you were to intervene that situation, you are helping a killer/rapist.

You have to understand that probably the deaf guys were not running away like crazy, they are deaf, didnt hear the alarm and probably were walking out calmly. The security guards acted like they were terrorists trying to escape....
Thats just my assumption since we cannot judge what happened before the video.

I know security guards often restrain shoplifters until cops arrive... what they are and are not allowed to do in order to restrain shoplifters I do not know and I think we need to evaluate carefully before accusing these security guards of doing something completely different than their job description or legal right.

To those of you even remotely defending these security guards, let me give you a big FUCK YOU! These poor guys didn't do anything wrong. I don't give a shit if they actually stole something, and they weren't deaf, you still don't choke someone out to detain them. That is assault, and that is not part of any security officer's job. The guys friend was holding the receipt and trying to show them that everything was paid for, and yet they still continued to choke him out.

Agreed. The guard on the floor had plenty of opportunities to detain the target without a submission. The problem is, he might not have had the proper training to realize this and to actually restrain someone without a choke. Bottom line: huge security guard hired for being huge.

Choking is completely unnecessary to restrain someone. Also, you don't shout at someone from inside the store and give them commands. You walk(or run) up to them and confront them. Security guards are not police and they don't have the authority police do.
