The study is over.
During the above observation period Shri Prahlad Jani has not consumed anything and has not passed stool. The only contact with any form of fluid was during gargling and bathing periodically during the study beginning from 5th day of study.
Mr Jani has also not passed urine from his body during the observation period; however the claim will be scientifically substantiated after analysis of investigations carried out.
All the reports and results will be scientifically analyzed, subsequently and will take some time. The entire study team will meet periodically to discuss the findings and draw valid conclusions.

hmm... seems impossible, but then again...
"Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible" -- Lord Kelvin, 1892
meh, we know from the other thread that most people think its bullshit
this time let's try to gather up and come up with a plausible theory, just for fun, even if you think its ridiculous... i dont have the necessary academical background myself t.t
|
Didn't the initial thread also say he lost some weight..
Either way it is BS.

drinking bath water maybe?

study is over? they should watch him for 70 more years to make sure.

He must have consumed fluid while gargling and bathing lol...if he really wanted to prove himself, he could have easily forsaken these....
On a different note, this reminds me of this book I read about Houdini, which went really into depth about Arthur Conan Doyle and the spiritualist exposures if anyone knows about those. I'm guessing this is just another case of obviously false claims which will be disproven over time.

Plausible theory... ish.... The guy was a major tubby before his 70 years of fasting so his body just fed off the fat like it's suppose to? I know in biology they taught that when you don't eat, your body starts to eat the left over fat basically so that it can starve and slows down the metabolism so maybe that's it?
|

they said the collect the water after he has used it and measure to see if he has consumed any

Lol @ the gargling and bathing thing. If it was true he wouldn't need either of those.
|
The people who keep making the argument that "oh ppl thought flying machines were impossible too lol" are missing something. Those instances involved human invention and innovation. Those "impossibilities" didn't just come out of nowhere. They came from advances in technology. None of that occurred here unless you believe this guy escaped from a lab.
So the only possibility left is some evolutionary mutation. However, the chances of a mutation changing the human body so much as to not require food or water for 70 years, while still being a functioning, living human, is so improbable that it's really not worth even considering. The longer this story goes on the less respect I have for Indian "scientists."
|
So he can fast for fifteen days, which is impressive, but nobody has said that part is impossible.
|
Guys, think a little. If he took some water, he had to eventually get "rid" of it (ie:piss)

This is still fail. There is no conceivable way for a human to not consume food for longer than a month, or water for longer than 3 weeks. No matter how much astrology or mysticism you believe in.

Still, I'm saying he doesn't need them at all. I'm pretty sure if he can take the pain of starving for "70 years" then I'm also sure he wouldn't care too much about his smell either.

lol anyways unless he was bathing naked, his clothes would soak up a lot of the water, can't you verify this with an MRI scan or something, and not bother with this obvious publicity stunt? And I guess I can understand the bathing, but gargling? Really? Why does an isolated hermit suddenly develop a need to gargle?

Very smart. He then made use of the higher humidity in his room from all the sweaty fat docs and absorbed water from the air

I'm sure that these "scientists" will be willing to share their data and the video footage with anyone who wants to do a bit of peer reviewing. I'm also sure their desire to prove they weren't made to look like fools by an old man will have no effect on the "analysis of investigations".

Over a month?! If you go 2 days without any water you will start to show life threatening symptoms And without food is about an average of 5 days, but it fluxulates on your weight and so on as your body will consume the muscles for energy to sustane itself after a few days

Dude, I have a theory. He was blessed by a goddess when he was a kid so he doesn't have to eat or drink.
My theory is based on him saying he was blessed by a goddess when he was a kid.
Come on, think critically. Would a guy blessed by a goddess lie? Obviously not. Would a guy blessed by a goddess be mistaken? Obviously not.
So if the guy can't lie and he can't mistaken, then whatever he says is true. And he said that he was blessed by a goddess so we know that a goddess blessed him.
That guy with the comment about Lord Kelvin never seeing birds is a pretty funny guy

15 days doesn't seem like a big deal. Terminally ill patients often take 10+ days to die when they refuse to eat or drink, and they're terminally ill. Besides being very frail looking, he's probably in fairly good shape and spends a lot of time meditating to lower his metabolism.

why did they study him for only 2 weeks?

Google has some conflicting reports on how long it takes to die of dehydration but the general consensus seems to be somewhere between a week and fourteen days. This guy made it fifteen days and he's still alive so that's a pretty good piece of work. Plus there's no mention of any serious health effects that's he suffering as a consequence of all this. Bravo meditation master!
|
are you guys still debating whether this is possible?
|
yeah i still can't believe some of you are following up on this case with hopes that it's real.
The only thing you need to know are these two: 1. He claims to not have eaten food or drank water for 70 years 2. The test lasted 2 weeks? or up to 30 days?
EVEN if he passes 30 days without food or water, how the hell does that short duration (short, relative to 70 years) prove 70 years w/o food or water?? The evidence CLEARLY does not deliver on his claim.
|
I'm pretty skeptical about this, but since coming up with a plausible theory was asked for, here goes ... Firstly, I guess through training, mediation, genetic predisposition, whatever, a body can adapt to all sorts of things - within limits. So whilst it might be recommended that you drink 3L of water per day, and less than 1L might not be healthy, I guess you could adapt to live of a lot less. The same is probably also true for nutrition. I'm not saying you can adapt to living without water and nutrient uptake, this I'd say is impossible. All I'm saying is you can probably reduce your needs significantly.
Ok, since you're still going to need some nutrients, the question is where they come from. I don't think a mutation is a plausible explanation, because you'd need a very large number of mutations, or basically the introduction of new genes which is just too unlikely to have spontaneously occurred. At least into his genome, which is what the explanation could be: he is a symbiotic organism.
Now before you laugh, there are all sorts of amazing bacteria and fungi on this planet that can do all sorts of funky things. Some of these buggers are able to metabolize compounds that would spell instantaneous death to any other living being. And some of these creatures don't live by themselves, but actually regularly undergo symbiosis with other beings. You might now about trees and fungi, but there are other more applicable examples.
For example nitrogen fixing bacteria in root nodules. In addition to carbon, most creatures need a nitrogen source (which is why you fertilize plants, to add nitrogen; carbon is available in the air). These bacteria can infect plant roots and adopt a symbiotic lifestyle to fix nitrogen in exchange for nutrients. Fixing nitrogen basically means to extract gaseous nitrogen from the air and provide it to the plant in a way it can metabolize, a function that the plant alone does not posses (normally it extracts different nitrogen compounds from the soil).
Another example a marsupials (a kangaroo is a good example). You might know that these animals give birth extremely early on, and then carry their joeys around in a pouch. Ever wondered how the joey can breathe inside the pouch? They suck on a teat that provides milk, but the mother has no way to supply oxygen. The answer are bacteria inhabiting the pouch that can release oxygen as a byproduct of their metabolism.
Last but not least, we humans can only live and digest our food thanks to the huge numbers of bacteria inhabiting our intestines - e.g. the famous e. coli.
So ... if the guy in question has been infected with the right kind of bacteria, lets say a nitrogen fixing strain, and a carbon fixing strain, then these buggers would be able to extract nutrients from the air, possibly also water, which would make it appear as though he lives off breathing only. Couple that with a reduced need for nutrients etc through adaptation, and it might just work. Not that I think it'd be likely, but maybe that's what's happening?

On come on. We all know it's physically impossible to perform body functions without energy.

let me quote an earlier post i made:
to all people who say this could be an abnormality or some amazing developed technique: HE SURVIVED 70 (SEVENTY) YEARS WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER. if you even remotely believe it (all you people who say "i have an open mind" or "there is a small chance") need to fucking open your eyes and realize that ITS NOT POSSIBLE.
this isn't a guy claiming he did it for a month by slowing his metabolism. its a guy saying that he hadn't had food or water since he was 13 years old. its a guy saying that he didn't take a shit, didn't spit out any water.
oh i just thought of the perfect counter-argument while writing this. THIS GUY GREW WITHOUT EATING FOOD OR WATER. he went through puberty, he grew a fucking beard, he probably grew fingernails and shit too. unless he just inflated since he was 13 or looked like that for 70 years, ITS NOT POSSIBLE, GET OVER IT.
if you believe this is remotely possible you are unbelievably thick.
|
it is funny how many people start their posts with a disclaimer like
"i don't think it's really possible BUT..."
guess what. homeboy did not live for 70 years without food or water. he may have survived for 15 days in a controlled environment with only gargling, but who really gives a damn about that? so he may be a couple standard deviations above the mean on how long he can go without a drink.
big flipping deal.
here's the thing. you either "humor the possibility" because you honestly think it might be true, in which case you need to read a book. or you humor the possibility because you secretly, desperately want it to be true, in which case you probably need to examine the roots of your own deep dissatisfaction with the facts of the universe. hell it'll be good for you to do that anyway. knock yourself out.
|
This will get NOWHERE 99% of post's Call bullshit 1% know its not true but cant resist trolling
maybe make a new thread about "The survivability and endurance of humans" where people can actually have a constructive exchange of thoughts on the matter.
Oh and this is hardly "More news" on the subject. the last post was closed for a reason. This turn of events hardly warrants an update.
Update us in 50 years and i might entertain the idea that somethings up.

i personally think it wasn't 70 years for him but for long periods of time. i've heard it is possible to use your mind and meditation to alter metabolism so that might be why he has gone without urinating or passing stool or the need to consume anything. that being said it is impossible to completely eliminate the need for nutrients no matter how much you change your metabolism

One of three things:
1. He's used to living without food and with limited water intake, consumes enough water during daily shower. 2. His body is hibernating (or certain organs), feeds off it's own heat or simply produces electricity (more than a regular person) and feeds off that, again, not unheard of. 3. Like many "monks" or something like that he learned to separate the soul from the body, now feeds off pure energy or whatever, you can read about many of these.

A better analogy is a claim that you can go a year without breathing, and then you are taken in by doctors and prevented from breathing for 12 hours. If you can survive for 12 hours without breathing, function normally and run up stairs with energy, then we can assume you'll probably be okay going even longer.
In this case, most people die in 2-3 days without water. Going 14 days and showing no normal signs of dehydration is pretty compelling evidence if it is all true.
