The void rays increased range over the hydras in combination with the sentry's guardian shield and froce fielding your hydras just out of range let them pick off your army and build up their charge. You'd need something like banelings or speedlings in combination with the hydras to have won there. And he had an overwhelming number of void rays.

I'm having an increasing problem with early rushes as protoss, from all 3 races. When games play out for about 7-8 minutes I'm in a pretty good position, usually have both warp gates and a stargate up, phoenix in que, stalker/sentries out blah blah. But when I get bumrushed by like 6-8 zealots or 5+ ling extremely early on, or a fast mmm rush from terran I'm kind of stuck. I am scouting, usually just send 1 probe, see what their doing, and then wait til my first phoenix to scout more.
Do I need to deterr my style of play THAT much to account for a rush? Or could I hold off an early rush and I'm just doing something wrong? A replay of a top player (maybe nony or WhiteRa) defending against a hard rush would be nice :3

this is the wrong thread to ask the question i believe ~~
but if you are finding early rushes problematic, protoss has the sentry to forcefield the ramp to cut down the army in half and also the classic building chokepoint which prevents them from getting in your base and surrounding your units. Examples are found from most decent protoss players.

For the past few tournaments over there they've switched to an automatchmaking system for the qualifiers so there's no progression through a traditional bracket like in the Zotac or ESL cups, you just have to mass as many games as you can within the 2 hour qualifying period and hope you made it into the top few positions (for XPT6 only 5 progressed from the qualifier as 3 had already been seeded for the final). It's a bit of a crapshoot really.
