+ Show Spoiler + Aware of the drama that unfolded recently? Well, check the closed thread forum for some lols. Point being, the CSL was headed in a direction that our dearest Hazelynut didn't like, and like Kerrigan she broke away from the overmind. I'm just the ole' Infested Duran doing the master's bidding.
So yes, stay tuned for an announcement by the queen herself. The CSL is powering up. And, it is powering up free of charge.
We Need YOU! + Show Spoiler + We're looking for help!
1) Graphics People - think you're hot shit with photoshop? Lazy art student with tons of free time? PM me so you can make us cool banners and whatnot!
2) Admins - want to help run the league? Presumably this league will consist of quite of bit of teams and players playing on a weekly basis. There are few of us now and we'll surely need more help. PM me to inquire if you have a desire to work for the community and college students everywhere!
3) Web Design - With a new direction, we'll need a new website. This might be a bit of a job, but it's for the best possible cause - Starcraft. PM me! We will have hosting and stuff, just need someone who can build a website!
4) Support - SEND US YOUR MONEY. Just kidding, just post here and say "awesome job!" that's all the support we're looking for.

Hahahaha I love the analogy Duran
Come up to Berkeley October 17/24, I think I'll be having another LAN... you've missed out on all the other ones!

Please do not ever try to monetize (Incorporate) a program that requires independent contribution as well as community involvement. While a website and automatic reporting system is nice, its not everything.
Fuck the CSL "executive", you guys obviously didn't work through any business models. (The fact that you called yourseleves "executive" was stupid) $2,000 for source code and a website?! Really?! Were CSL Inc. thinking they were going to get Blizzard sponsorship or just increase fees to get revenue? Did you guys really think the community was going to back your business? You guys must have gotten so excited of how well CSL season 1 went that you thought you found the next big community event. You can not monetize this event, it will not work.
Support the community, support Mona! You have UT's support and I hope other schools can see what is happening here and support Mona also.

Did i get the story wrong somewhere along the lines? I got the impression that Mona didnt want the LLC or charging fees. Yet, she was forced to do it after the other admins decided to do it. Now shes breaking away.. Correct?

Those CSL guys are such a joke. -_- The tournament, from a spectators point of view, never was too good and definitely can't be compared to anything like the TSL. Also, I firmly believe the VoE thing is completely useless and I have no idea what the point of that is. Charging for a good tournament would be one thing, but this is kind of like something like a SC2GG Star Cup, although probably a bit lower skill level still. Sure, it's the colleges and blahblah, but... yeah, it's always been just a fun tournament to me. Trying to make money off a tournament that barely allows any good playeres to play... *Sighs*
That being said, I'm sure this will turn out well. At least a lot better than the original corrupted one would have. I'm not sure where they're going to advertize, hopefully SC2GG at least will screw them over.
I'm kind of sad, though. I really wanted to flame them in the original thread before it got closed. T_T
And about costs, you can host on a free website, stream on livestream, have a thread on teamliquid, make banners with paint, use notepad for information, whatever. No one cares what things look like as long as it gets the point accross. At least I don't.
However, I guess that's not even an issue and with Xeris this is likely going to become the best CSL yet, so have fun everyone ^_^

+ Show Spoiler + Hazel :
Greetings, Cerebrate. By now you've realized that I've severed your connection with the Overmind and your renegade brethren. Understand, it's nothing personal. I just can't risk you falling under their influence. You're mine now. Serve me unquestioningly, and I'll let you live.
Xeris :
My Queen, pardon me for interrupting, but the visitors you have been expecting have arrived.
Hazel :
Finally. They certainly took their time.
Chill :
Yeah, well none of us were in any real hurry to get here, Hazel.
Hazel :
Still suspicious of my motives, Chill?
Chill :
Always.
Hazel :
Heh. When I contacted you both on Aiur, I told you about the new Overmind and about the VoE that seeks to control it. Well, the VoE has done it. They've tamed the Overmind and now control most of the Zerg broods in this sector. That's why I've asked for your help.
Kennigit :
You want us to help you defeat the VoE so that you alone will rule the Zerg!
Hazel :
Wrong, Kennigit. I want to defeat them because if we don't, they'll clamp down on this sector, and enslave us all! You know I'm right Chill. You've studied the history of Earth, you know what the VoE's agenda is. Taking control of the Zerg is only the beginning for them.
Chill :
Maybe... I don't know...
Xeris :
My Queen, again I beg your pardon for this interruption, but we have a very serious problem!
Hazel :
Perfect timing... Gentlemen, we'll need to finish this conversation later... continue, Xeris.
Xeris :
The Psi Disrupter's signal has reached us here on Tarsonis and shattered the unity of your broods! Within the past few hours, your minions have turned on each other and left their hive clusters to run out of control!
Hazel :
This is just what I need. Cerebrate, take the few Zerg still under my control and do what you can to stem any further damage to the hive clusters. I can't afford to have them destroyed by my own minions!

I don't really want to get dragged into this, heh. I feel no association with the CSL, and wish them all the best, but I don't understand the whole payment thing. I pay a fucking ton of money to make the SC experience better for everyone however I can. Sometimes it's demoralizing to never really get any forward progress, so all I ever end up doing is feeling sorry for the SC2GG writers who's great work doesn't get read enough, and wish I could do better for them. Don't hate on the CSL for this idea, everyone makes mistakes. If they need server space, I have a server. It's free!
Whatever leagues or things the guys run will probably never have an entry fee, and I'll probably never say no if someone asks me if I can help out with providing some commentary (but that's up to the individuals, not me, so if you ask and I say that your preferred guy is busy/doesn't want to/whatever, don't get pissy at me).
There is no reason for SC2GG to "screw them over", or anything like that, why would I want to do that? I like Hazel, I like Xeris, I like Cholera. I like Shikyo too, he's really cool. Some things, I don't like, but everyone has their likes and dislikes. For example, I don't come on TL and ask for Web Design help. Should I anyway? Heh.
So yeah, uh, that's my views. No need to be a hater.. whatever good comes of that? :/ Nothing, in my eyes.

*OMG CHILL GRUDGE MATCH TONIGHT!!!!* I HAVE NEW ZVZ CHOLERA BUILD KEKEKE
Hehe, so yes, this thread doesn't have too much current content, but I think it's needed since the last one was even lamer. Hopefully this will eventually get some details out about new changes in the tournament that deal with stuff important to potential players at TL.
Also, my humble 2 cents from doing casting both for CSL season 1 and a few games with top foreign players online or at WCG Open: CSL and TSL or another traditional competitive SC leagues appeal to almost entirely different audiences and players.
Both are great for the foreign SC fanbase, just to different aspects of it. I don't post much on either TL or SC2GG any more because I'm trying to devote more time to growing an audience that's mostly not involved in the current SC community. Well mainly I don't post so much because of taking courses and playing FO3, but shh.
I'd say most of my viewers for my videos are very casual enthusiasts who don't play at all or only play with 'friends'; and who just want to watch some fun games without any involvement in the forums or community. I'd say a majority of the college players on the CSL teams, with some big exceptions, belong in this category too (which explains their - and my - rather bad play).
But, thousands of these folks like watching games with bad plays too :O Based on views, as many people watched my VODs of CSL playoffs/finals and the Cotter Cup, both of which had games that were on average on the level of D+ or C- players, as they did casts I've done of top foreign players from replays, or as most of the Korean games. Watching odd and imperfect play doesn't appeal to a lot of people who post here, but there's still a whole lot more who do like watching and laughing about them.
The TSL, WCG qualifiers, ESL, cups in Cali, etc. are absolutely great for the game, its long-lasting community, and all of us who do like watching solid play among non-Koreans (which includes me). But, the CSL is a completely different tournament where most of the players are from the "casual", previously uninvolved crowd of viewers I mentioned above - who definitely can reach the same level as the players with just some practice and do like the idea of watching amateurs who do make lots of mistakes but still can win (or at least compete in) a tournament.
Some of these viewers have told me they found a dusty copy of BW and started playing on Bnet or Iccup for the first time in 5+ years, or are much more excited about and will buy SC2 when it comes out. And that can only be good for the game.
*burrows again* *selected with ol and stopped* *waiting for zealots, HYUK STYLE*
|
so if cholera and hazel are doing this CSL, what happened to the pay CSL?
does that exist anymore? If not, that could have been made clearer by just saying that this is CSL - costs.

good question. I guess they should answer that, no? =P

I think mercing will be bad

The more I think about it the more I think it's an absolutely horrible idea to bend the rules with regards to mercing.
If you do that you'll wind up with winning teams composed of people from all over the place...

we will NOT be allowing mercing. sorry for any confusion O_O

Mona feels she has lost control over the CSL that she envisioned and has decided to step down from the corporation. Since we already have a larger registration than last season, I will continue to operate this tournament in the same format/structure/rules as the previous season with improved reporting for coordinators and look-up abilities for all players.
She is now looking for volunteers to recreate and restructure what has been done so far and are in essence disaffiliating with this CSL. This is an opportunity for those of you would want organizational involvement in the current CSL to step up and those that would like to follow Mona to do so.
I know from experience and input that the finals for the beta season was poorly organized. Mona decided to do away with our software system and do it by hand with some volunteers which is why it turned out so. They are currently looking for web designers and graphics editors and such to start over, as they now lack every resource needed to run a tournament other than enthusiasm.
Please open a new thread if you want to discuss further or help out as many people probably want to know. We currently have 29 schools through the 2nd day of registration, but there are some that were very adamant against the fees. If you know for a fact that you will not participate, please let me know in one way or another so I can update the registration.
I guess that means there are two CSLs...

Players on a team are limited to only those who attend the school, taking courses for credit, intending to graduate in the future correct? So people who have already graduated and are no longer with the institution would not be allowed, while people who, say, took a break for a few years for military service or something and are back at the school would be?

Can you guys really not work something out to use his website and whatnot? This seems like a real shame for everyone involved, on a lot of levels...
