Can anyone explain to me why it was forced that the twins go into the same group (i.e. "race rule")? I imagine that they do not want three zergs in group 1 and therefore forbid choosing another one, but apart from that?

If three race variety is enforced, the last three picks would have been obligatory, as we had:

THere needs to be at least one of each race in each group.
Since A was ZZT -> A has to pick toss
Since B was PPZ -> B has pick Terran

So group C gets the left over zergs. Xellos was just saving time. They could have already filled in the other groups.

Well, I could imagine something like this:

Race balance rule is only valid during last three picks to enforce - if possible - making groups with all three races. So Xellos, having two zergs, one p and one t to choose from could still have chosen anyone.

Xellos chooses a T (Flash) -> Best automatically goes to group 1, but group 2, not able to pick a terran, would have had the choice between the twins.
Xellos chooses a P (Best) -> Group one has the choice between twins, group 2 gets Flash, group 3 gets leftover.
Xellos chooses a Z (w/e) -> Best to group 1, Flash to group 2, leftover zerg to group 3.

So the only pick which enforced the remaining picks was getting a zerg.
