Soma makes very good decisions, very fast and seems to be a very strong match player as well. JD sometimes is super locked in live but not often, Soma seems to auto lock in with pressure. There is a chance JD has slightly better ling micro and maybe even slightly better muta's at times, but Soma's overall excellent judgement is hard to get around. I would put the odds at 60/40 Soma/JD based upon clutch match wins under pressure in the past few seasons. Strategically, I am worried that Soma might have a planned match that will throw JD off his game. JD fan fears: JD being overly aggro and bleeding units into defensive formations, and Soma abusing his aggressive tendencies for one sided rolls. IF JD loses, I want him to be able to gain some confidence in himself for next season through a close match. | ||

Side-note: I watched an old Jaedong OSL game yesterday and couldn't believe how long ago that was. He was so young! To be still fighting with such passion for the game after all these years is wonderful and he will always be one of my favourites. | ||

Yes, commentators on StarCast are missing this, 9 pool is almost always 1 hatch speed or 1 hatch lair, since he didn't see speed he assumed that it was 9 pool lair rush and went for an evo for spore colonies in time while droning up JD scouted a wall at the ramp of lings which indicates that Soma is trying to hold on until spire finishes but what he missed was it's back rooms - you can play a 2nd hatch on highground to have access to 2 gas, so soma went 9 pool without gas with a second hatch, the amount of lings surprised JD 11 pool with 2nd hatch on highground is common on backrooms, but it's countered by 12 hatch expand. It was both, if JD sat in his base after losing the hatchery and built up mutas, he would have lost very quickly, he found ways to generate counterplay and those kinds of plays win you games in less dire situations I didn't say he played amazingly well for staying in the game for longer, more than that fact that he was able to even make it seem like there was a way to win (by sniping drones, getting a critical mass of mutas that can overcome a larger force with mainly scourge because soma didn't have enough minerals to stack mutas) was what was impressive | ||

Even with losing game 1, Soma was able to outplay JD in the match. This wasn't fluke builds. Soma destroyed him in preparation. The biggest thing he did was take away JD's ability to play well. He just candle snuffed the poor guy. | ||
