Background-To try and accommodate some of the blue B-rankers and to try and raise activity, I'll be starting a new league welcoming all iCCup ranks up to B+. Format-Depending on the number of players, we'll be having an ODT-style group stage, into a single-elimination tournament bracket. The tournament will ideally have 32 players, but if for whatever reason, 64 players sign-up, then the tournament will start off with a Round-of-64 tournament bracket. Rules- All the games must take place on iCCup (TheAbyss) or Fish. Anti-hack and LAN-latency MUST be on.
- Adhere to all iCCup server rules.
- Account sharing is prohibited, and if caught, there will be consequences.
- Any form of match fixing, cheating, hacking, etc. is prohibited.
- Players that have achieved A- will NOT be allowed to play this season, regardless of wanting to play with off-race.
- Race-picking is not allowed, meaning a player must play just one race throughout the entire duration of the tournament.
- If a player disconnects within 2 minutes of the start of a game, then the game must be replayed. If a player disconnects past the 2 minute mark, please contact me and show me the replay. I will make the decision regarding a regame, or whether a verdict will be made.
- If players do not make contact with their opponents, PM me and I will make the decision regarding walkovers or rescheduling.
- In the case of a player no showing for a match their opponent will receive 1 set walkover if their opponent is 15-29 minutes late and a full match walkover if their opponent is still absent 30 minutes after the scheduled time. Any player wishing to take a walkover win in this manner must take screenshot in channel "OP Crimson" with server time stamp (I know iccup server time is not accurate, I will adjust) and PM or email it to me. Screenshot is only needed if I am not present to approve the walkover at the time.
- Players are allowed to choose Random as a race. However, the player MUST select
 Random every game, and announce their matchup at the start of every game. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
- Replays must be submitted either via PM to fearthequeen or via e-mail to maroonstarleague@outlook.com Replay deadline is 11 hours after each respective scheduled game time. Ro16 replay deadline: Sunday, Jun 15 5:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)

I like when people claim to "play all races" and that it takes a ton of skill to learn all the match-ups, but really just play one race, and know a bunch of do-or-die timing attacks for every other match-up.

What if do or die timing attacks is all it takes to win? (On average of course)

I would imagine it's because when you play against random you have to have a completely different mindset as well as playstyle than you would normally. Due to the sheer number of options you may encounter you can't at the beginning know what's coming at you without scouting incredibly early and for the mix of skill levels in the tournament it could be unfair towards certain people. I personally don't care either way since I'm in for the experience, but there's a reason most tournaments don't allow random.

Please give me legitimate reasons as to why A-/A players should be allowed to play in a tourney intended for B+ max level players? Not that these players were the only cases, but SouthPark and Julia showed that even though their offraces aren't necessary on the level of their main races, they can still perform at a high level simply because of their superior mechanics and knowledge of the game. If people that aren't eligible are wanting to play because of a lack of tournaments to play in, I'm sorry. Keep in mind that TLS could be right around the corner.
And as you said, there's no money involved and it's intended to be a league just for fun. Why not let the actual players who's max rank is B+ play it out themselves?

So in general don`t play that game cuz u good ( witch im not ) and go fuck yourself well im out.
The only fun thing to do nowadays is to wait in the shadows and snipe some ex pros -_- pathethic

The gap is too big thats my point... there is no point of writing "B+" when u don`t actually let them play and the difference between B+ and A- is none nowadays... This league confuses me hard. While I'm really in favour of not just throwing money at the top class (or at anyone for that matter) only in invite tournaments, I'm also really in favour of being annoying and pointing out that INF3cted's argument is valid; I'd exclude beginner-only events, but at one point people could realize it'd be prolly best to train against the best, anything else is not really a competition. If it'd be a invitational, it'd be different, I mean, stuff like Gemleague or ThSL.

Less than that and obviously that's not going to happen, but the thing is tournaments like these give people who aren't the pro level the chance to play in more tournaments. Yes, there's no money involved and yes, it's probably not fair because you're excluding players for the sake of doing it, but it gives the players involved atleast somewhat of a chance to get quite far in the tournament.
If you had the foreign pro level players in it, everyone'd be knocked out except them by the Ro8/4 and if it's only a small tournament it means people who don't get to play in as many tournaments, get even less of a chance to experience the setting which invalidates the whole point. Now I realise this is coming from someone who's still only max rank D+, but I think with enough practice I could even beat C/C+ players since my mechanics are not terrible I still stand somewhat of a chance If I play well. B, not as much but still a slim chance, but if it was a foreign pro level player I'd stand no chance. I'd still enjoy the experience but some people'd see it somewhat pointless.
To compare it to sports of some kind, do people complain when proffesional american handeggers can't play in the same leagues as the college players? What we need is just more tournaments with varying skill levels so more and more people can join in and play with a wide variety of players.

I don't understand why people write essays here trying to convince sync[gm] to change the format/rules for this tourney. You just have to trust he has good reasons to run it as he chooses. Go organize your own tournaments if you are so dissatisfied with how this is organized.

With Arcania's sign up that gives us 32 players. I will being doing group draw today and posting the groups here. Unfortunately I don't have a stream to show the draw. To determine the groups I will simply write each players name on 32 pieces of paper, mix them up in a bowl, and pick 1 at a time without looking. First selected will be first slot in group A, second selected first slot in group B, and so on.
Any player signing up after this point will be added to a replacement player list. Replacement players will be inserted into the round of 32 (for a player of their same race) in the case of any player withdrawing from the tournament before the round of 32 begins.

As long as you play your initial match before the scheduled time it won't be a problem. The reason for this is it's more realistic that the groups will finish and replays be sent before the deadline if at least the initial matches are played beforehand. To reiterate, those unable to play at scheduled time must, at the very least, play their initial match prior to Saturday. They should also arrange with other half of the group to play early as well. Finishing winners/losers/final matches after Saturday, Jun 07 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) should be a last resort and must be agreed upon by all group members.

All I can say is you should urge the rest of your group to play early. Once you schedule a time with Sterling see if Lumix and Reaper can show up at that time as well. This way you can play the entire group early. I know its not easy for everyone to find 1 time to play during the week but its your best shot.
I decided for this tournament that I'm having a strict replay submission deadline so that players for each new round will know their new opponents a week in advance. Allowing postponements reduces everyone's opportunity for preparation throughout the tournament.
So, if you happen to play your match vs Sterling and aren't able to play the rest of your matches before the deadline, I'm sorry but your opponents will receive walkover wins. Of course, your group should be manner and accomodate your attempts to play early, so it shouldn't come to that.

I can play at 7:30 BST (British Summer Time, so 6:30PM GMT) if that's alright with you. It's half hour after the specified time.
7PM BST is a really bad time for me and it makes playing in any tournament quite awkward because I look after someone who has to take tablets and eat with them which is why I'm always busy making dinner/eating it between that time.

I agree, it's unfortunate that some quality players like yourself were walked over. But, just because two players agree to a postponed match doesn't negate the fact that there are no postponed matches allowed for this league. I made it clear earlier in the thread that I was going to make Ro16 brackets with whatever replays I had at the replay deadline.

Spaniard, sorry but in the case of scheduling problems, the one present at the scheduled game time gets the win. As for a rematch, you can do it for fun if you want, but it won't affect this tournament, the Round of 16 is already decided.
Radley (and all players), part of participating in this tournament is checking this thread and your Teamliquid PM. Skype is only a supplement for communication. So even though you say "please don't contact me on TL," it doesn't change the fact that TL is the primary form of communication for this tournament. So if you miss some important information because you don't check here, it probably won't benefit you.

So far I only know that Iway vs Lumix plan to play early and that flying vs AOT has already been played. I'm assuming the rest of you plan to play at scheduled time. Let me know otherwise. Also let me know if you've contacted your opponent but haven't gotten a response.
Read the Rules carefully if you've managed to make it this far without doing so. Walkovers will be strictly enforced on Saturday, as detailed in the rules.

Under normal circumstances, no. The games should all be played in succession without significant breaks in between. But, if for some reason all of the games for a match can't be completed at one time, there is no way to prevent players from watching the replays of the games already played.
In the end, it's up to the 2 players involved in a match. If both agree to take a break to watch the replay between games, there's nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, if a player delays a match to watch replays from the previous match(es) when the other player didn't agree, they will be disqualified. If a player joins another game in between the sets of their match it will be assumed they are watching the replay.

Finals map order added to OP after receiving finalists' vetoes. Also, Ro4 replay pack added to OP.
3rd place match has been played. puppykiller, dnh, redaxis, ninazerg/draw, stardom, birdie, ect. let me know if you want the replays to cast (before Saturday July 5).

+ Show Spoiler +First, I'd like to thank all of the players. It's refreshing to see some good level players coming out and making this event possible despite it lacking a prizepool. Also, RedAxis inspired and kicked off this event, handing it off to me in the early stages so he could focus on running Crimson Starleague. Thanks for giving me the chance to help out.
To all of the casters, Puppykiller, DNH, Redaxis, NinaZerg, Draw, Stardom, Jemah and anyone else I didn't happen to see casting, thanks for allowing this tournament to have a viewership. Without a broadcast this tournament would have been quite empty.
Shoutout to those who help keep Liquipedia updated. Can't be sure of everyone who helped, but Redaxis, art_of_turtle, Sero...thanks.
It was a well fought 7 game final series today, congratulations to Favian[PaiN] on 1st place, and iFU.Cryoc on 2nd place. It was an interesting series with creative plays from both throughout. Congratulations also to Modesty (widowkiller_) on defeating Radley for 3rd place. Favian has proven himself as one of the top 2nd tier players in foreign broodwar by taking 2nd place in season 1 and 1st in season 2.
I can't say that there will be a 3rd season of Maroon Starleague in its current format. I do forsee some future invitational style leagues involving players from the first 2 seasons of Maroon Starleague, as well as any other active ~C/B rank players. Be on the lookout in this Brood War Tournaments section of the forum for any future league announcements!
