While we can’t Top the sexy awesomeness of a drunken beachvolleyball league we can and will bring you the second best. The Swedish Brood War Initiative are proud to present the SBWI Summer Tour!

Up to 64 players will battle it out for 75$ with the winner taking 50$ and the runner up taking 25$. The Ro8 and onwards will be casted by none other than L_Master and BisuDagger! The tournament will be held over one day using ICCups tournament system with all series being BO3 up until the Ro4. From here onwards all series will be Bo5’s.

In an effort to reach out to the foreign map community we have decided to feature the tasty Twilight map Overwatch™ by -NegativeZero-. A two player map offering interesting positional play through massive ridges, this map is ripe for varied strategic interpretations.

Proceed to the signups gentlemen, the floodgates have opened!

Rules

Short version

  • In the words of Dwight Schrute: “Don’t be an idiot”.
  • The pricemoney is paid out after the winner and runner-up have submitted all of their replays.
  • Do not spoil any tournament results from the RO8 and onwards, since these matches will be casted.
  • Should any problems arise, the Tournament Admins/SBWI staff will resolve them to the best of their ability. Mutual respect is important here, and disagreeing with a decision that’s been made doesn’t mean it’s okay to be unprofessional or disrespectful towards a staff member.
  • All games are to be played on iCCup.
  • Refer to the iCCup Tour Rules for rules regarding match settings and glitches.

Long version
+ Show Spoiler +
  1. Administration
    • All players are subject to administrative discretion.
    • The SBWI tournament comittee reserves full discretion over all decisions and procedures.
    • By signing up for this tournament, players confirm that they have read and understood these rules, and that they will abide by them.
    • SBWI reserves the right to modify these rules at any time, for any reason, without prior notification or announcement.
    • If you wish to dispute any ruling made by tournament admins or the SBWI Tournament Comittee, you may contact our chairman or any other SBWI board member to have your case reviewed. Abuse of this priviliege will be dealt with as deemed appropriate by the SBWI board.
    • Bad manner towards the tournament staff will not be tolerated, and will be dealt with as deemed appropriate by the SBWI board.

  2. Players are eligible to participate in this tournament if:
    • He grew up in a location without a professional StarCraft scene; OR
    • He currently resides in a location without a professional StarCraft scene and is not affiliated with a professional StarCraft team; AND
    • He does not have connection lag that would significantly impact quality of play

  3. Spoilers
    • Players are not allowed to spoil the result of their matches.
    • Publicly spoiling the results of matches played in the RO8, semifinals or finals will result in a warning and, if deemed necessary, stricter sanctions, the extent of which will be decided by the SBWI board on a case-to-case basis.

  4. Player behavior
    • Excessive BM, whether directed towards an opponent, tournament admin, caster or anyone else, is not appropriate for a tournament setting, and will not be tolerated in the tour.
    • In particular, SBWI has a zero-tolerance policy on racism, sexism and real life threats. Any behavior of that kind will result in a swift disqualification and a ban from future SBWI events, the length of which will be decided by the SBWI board on a case-to-case basis.
    • Typing “gg”, “GL HF” or using other similar expressions during this tournament is not mandatory, but showing good sportsmanship in general is encouraged..

  5. Observers
    • As a rule of thumb, observing matches in this tournament will not be allowed.
    • A tournament admin or an SBWI staff member reserves the right to observe any games being played, for the purposes of anti-abuse and/or live broadcast of the game(s), under the condition that the observer in question does not lag.

  6. Version, server and chatroom
    • The latest StarCraft Patch, 1.16.1.1, must be used.
    • The tournament is to be played on iCCup's StarCraft server.
    • Anti-Hack must be used for all matches. The iCCup Anti-Hack is preferred, but not mandatory. Not using Anti-Hack will result in disqualification.
    • All players will meet in the chatroom “op SBWI”, where a minimum of one tournament admin will always be present.

  7. Replays
    • Replays will be uploaded and wins reported by the winner of the game, at the tournament bracket on iCCup: http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/tourney/view/24989.html
    • Prices will be paid after the replays have been sent in by the player and analyzed by our anti-abuse team.
    • Replays will be publicly available after the tournament has finished.
    • If you find that one of your replays is corrupted or hasn’t been saved, you must notify a tournament admin immediately. Depending on circumstances, the admin may call for a rematch or declare the match invalid, meaning that neither player will advance. We do not want to do either of those: please keep track of your replays.

  8. Lag and disconnects
    • This is an international event, and as such some lag is to be expected between some players. However, if the lag is so severe as to be unplayable, a tournament admin must be contacted. A lag test will then be performed, to determine which player is lagging. If a player knows him- or herself to be lagging, he/she must make this clear to the tournament admin. Knowingly concealing such information may result in disqualification.
    • IP-conflicts will be handled on a case-to-case basis, as deemed appropriate by the tournament admin(s).
    • If a disconnect occurs during the first two minutes of a game, a rematch will be played, regardless of who had the advantage at the time of disconnection.
    • If a disconnect occurs at any later time during a game, the players must either agree on who the winner is or present a replay to a tournament admin and/or the SBWI tournament committee, who will then decide on the matter.
    • If the tournament committee isn’t able to determine beyond reasonable doubt which player was winning, a rematch using the same map and races will be played.
    • If a disconnect occurs during a match and one of the players does not return to “op SBWI” within 5 minutes, his/her opponent will be declared as the winner.
    • If a player disconnects 3 or more times during the tournament, or lags severely and repeatedly, he/she may be disqualified by a tournament admin. Unless the tournament admin has reason to suspect malicious intent and/or abuse, no further penalties or sanctions will apply.

  9. Tournament schedule and walkovers
    • Players may not postpone games, declare walkovers or otherwise interfere with the tournament schedule.
    • All players must check-in to the tournament at: Link
    • All checked-in players must be present in “op SBWI”.
    • After checking-in, players must be prepared to play their matches immediately.
    • To ensure as smooth of a tournament as possible, every match must be played as soon as possible.
    • A player who isn’t showing up on time or going afk for a period of 5 minutes or more, without prior notification to his/her opponent and a tournament admin will be rewarded with 1 game loss every 10 minutes.
    • Under extraordinary circumstances, a tournament admin may permit a player to go afk for a period no longer than 30 minutes without a penalty, provided that their opponent also agrees to these terms. Players may not make these decisions without the involvement of a tournament admin. Should they do so, it will result in the disqualification of both players.

  10. Maps
    • All versions of the maps are identical to the versions in the iCCup mappack, with the exception of Overwatch, since it is not currently in iCCup’s mappack. In the case of Overwatch, version 1.01 is the correct one.
    • All maps used in this tournament are available for download here: SBWI Summer Tour Mappack.
    • All matches from the RO64 to the RO8 are best of 3.
    • Starting at the RO4, all matches are best of 5.
    • All games must be played on the correct maps and in the correct order. If an incorrect map is played, the results of that game will be disregarded and a rematch will be played.
    • If neither of the two players have the correct map, or both players are unable to host due to technical difficulties, a tournament admin must be contacted immediately. The tournament admin will then make arrangements for someone to host the correct map for the players.
    • Players may not make arrangements for someone other than a tournament admin to host a map for them. The result of any match played on such a map will be disregarded, and both players will receive a warning.
    • If an incorrect version of a map has been played, a rematch will be played. An exception from this rule can be made, but only if both players agree to it and a tournament admin explicitly gives his/her permission.

  11. Abuse
    • SBWI does not tolerate cheating in any form, and cheaters will always be disqualified and banned from further SBWI events for a minimum of 3 months, and likely a longer. The exact duration will be determined after a discussion between the SBWI tournament comittee and the SBWI board has been held.
    • SBWI strives to be as transperent as possible. As such, all evidence of players cheating/abusing will be released publicly, along with the reasoning behind the choice of duration for their ban.
    • SBWI will co-operate fully with other actors in the foreign BroodWar community, and share all significant findings of abusing/cheating players with other tournament organizers, communities and server admins.
    • Abusing or cheating includes, but is not limited to, the following activities; playing on more than one account per tournament, hosting a rigged map, playing someone elses’ matches for them, letting someone else play your matches, falsely and with malicious intent accusing a tournament admin of abuse, using a rigged map, maphacking, multiselection hacking, streamcheating, impersonating a tournament admin, interferring with an opponents internet connection by means of drophack or other third-party software, uploading a fake replay to the tournament grid, using any method whatsoever to try and coerce your opponent to give you the win, etc, etc.

  12. IP-addresses and privacy
    • Players may be required to surrender their IP address without prior notice.
    • SBWI respects a players right to privacy, and will not allow your IP address, or any other personal information, to be shared or used for any other purpose than to ensure a fair, cheat-free and competitive environment for this tournament.

  13. Prices
    • As previously stated, prices will be paid out after replays have been submitted, analyzed and casted.
    • All prices are calculated in US dollars (USD).
    • Prices will be distributed as follows: the winner (#1) gets 50$ and the runner-up (#2) gets 25$.
    • Prices will be paid out to a PayPal account.
    • If the player is currently residing in Sweden and/or has a bank account at a bank situated in Sweden, prices can be paid directly to that player’s bank account, provided that no applicable fees are in excess of the fees at PayPal. Using this alternative, the pricemoney will be paid in Swedish kronor (SEK), at a value equivalent to the pricemoney in USD, following the applicable exchange rate at that date. The player will receive all relevant information during this process.
    • Prices paid via paypal are primarily paid out in US Dollars (USD). In the event of currencies other than USD being available to SBWI, these may be provided, should the player request so. In this case, further conditions may apply, which the player will then be informed of. The option of having the price paid in USD will likely be the easiest though. Additionally, SBWI cannot guarantee the availability of any currencies other than USD.
    • Any fees for transferring pricemoney from the SBWI PayPal account to the player’s PayPal account will be provided for by the SBWI.

This tournament is sponsored by the Swedish BroodWar Initiative, a non-profit organization based in Sweden. SBWI is funded by donations from members of the community, along with a subsidy from the Swedish government, which is based on the number of members in the organization. If you want to help us bring more BroodWar content to you, please consider donating and/or joining the SBWI. More information is available here.

Thanks to:

iCCup.Face, L_Master, BisuDagger, -NegativeZero- and all people donating to and supporting the Swedish Brood War Initiative! This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without you!

EDIT #1: Regarding participation of Korean players: we've decided to shamelessly steal the ruleset from the TLS qualifiers regarding Korean players.

EDIT #2: Zaraki had some technical difficulties with the iccup website. + Show Spoiler +
He won both of his matches 2-0, and
I have received his replays via email. In the grid+ Show Spoiler +
his wins will
look like walkovers, when in fact, they were not.

Links to streams and the dates for the casts will be added soon-ish

Overwatch is by far one of the best amateur maps I've seen. Good choice.

Also, if someone wants to organize a beach volleyball league for BW players, I will give them $100.

I agree. It would be really awesome to have Defiler and SBWI ST (God somebody think of a better acronym) at the same time so that we have a saturday and sunday tournament.

I'm still waiting on that Teamleague though !

Hi, Negative, long time no see :D
Have you debugged the resources, yet?

EDIT: Nevermind, I checked with Protoss, and only found two or three minor issues, that are not really worth it bothering about...

To below: Faux 3D highground patches?! I mean, sure, the whole of BW is essntially "faux 3d", so to speak... But... I don't get it.
But this map is amzingly beautifully made.

SST should be fine. The name/abbreviation is probably the least important thing about this tournament, so whatever works, works. In my opinion anyway.

In other news, the number of signups is up to 36 now, which is pretty great considering how short notice this was.

This is a question that we've sort of avoided so far.
On the one hand, excluding players because of their nationality feels wrong to me personally, and also doesn't go well with SBWI's idea of delivering BroodWar content to everyone. On the other hand, the SSL/SRT tournaments gives korean players plenty of opportunities to earn both money and glory, but being an offline event means that foreigners can't really participate in those events. Additionally, having the same players that compete in SSL/SRT dominate a bunch of foreign events, whether hosted by SBWI or not, could possibly be detrimental to the foreign scene in general.

Short answer: for this particular event we're not excluding Koreans, provided that they follow the rules (just like everyone else) and have at least a rudimentary understanding of English (rudimentary as in, they can communicate about any problems to a tournament admin).

This is a question we'll need to discuss internally for future events though.

EDIT: We've decided to shamelessly steal the ruleset from the TLS qualifiers regarding Korean players. They are as follows:

Players are eligible to participate in this tournament if:
  • He grew up in a location without a professional StarCraft scene; OR
  • He currently resides in a location without a professional StarCraft scene and is not affiliated with a professional StarCraft team; AND
  • He does not have connection lag that would significantly impact quality of play

Great organisation. I tried to check in at 13:55 ( I barely managed to get back to home just to participate in tour) - of course grid was up, with Freeslots. The answer was - it's not our fault, it's iccup website clock, which is badly set up. Sorry, but it was your fault, you could change start time to 14:10 to avoid difference in website time, or avoid iCCup site to maintain this tour. You could also write anything about that time difference here in info post. But you didn't.

It's their first tournament organized ever and they rely on the help of the ICCup admins and their system. The likelihood they really didn't know is quite high. They live, they learn.

Edit: nevermind.

I apologize if my response to you in chat room came across as hostile, that was not my intention. I also want clarify that we do not blame you for being unable to check in 5 minutes before start. The fact of the matter is that we were completely unaware of the slight different between the iccup website's clock and the actual time. While the system is partly at fault here, our ignorance of these flaws were equally at fault, and as a result, you were unable to participate. For that I wholeheartedly apologize.

To avoid these issues in the future, check-in times will be extended to 1 hour for any similar events we may hold. We will also work on communicating times and dates in a more clear fashion.

Once again, I apologize for what happened, and hope that you will still participate in future SBWI events despite of this.

dRaW was going to stream, but he's probably sleeping atm. The date, time and stream for the official cast will be announced shortly.

This tour wasn't actually going to be casted at first, so getting casters was really a last minute sort of thing. Nevertheless, sorry for the wait...

Last time I used the ICCup Tournament System to host anything was more than two years ago. I never was a tournament admin, nor am I an admin now, nor have I been in the last two months, even in a senior position I delegated these tasks to other admins - so no, I could not have done it, I did not know about this particular bug yet.

Aside from this, these minor details can easily be forgotten or miscommunicated, there are many other aspects one needs or wants to know first. A perfect example of shit you just have to experience once, before you can fix it in the future. Keep in mind that the tournament, in a bigger picture, seemed to have worked out very well, considering that it was their first attempt.

I'm not really sure where I am supposed to get the replays from.

NVM it's on iccup webpage. So, I can start Ro8 whenever that is desired.

Thx to tehrei and abjurer for organizing this tour! The games between sziky and Michael were just astounding. Such fun and creative zvz as well as remarkable game sense shown by both players at different times.
