"If you want to be heard, you've gotta make some NoisE!"
Welcome to the NoisE Amateur Starleague!
Whether you are a struggling C- wanting to get better, or a solid C/C+ player looking to prove yourself, this is the place for you. Being the first of its kind, the ASL will offer a fairly large prize pool of $200 to exclusively C Ranks players in hopes to further improve foreign BroodWar and give a much needed league style opportunity for the middle rank players that deserve it.
The tournament will feature three stages of play allowing for the most epic of its kind: The Qualifiers, Group Stage, and the NoisE Amateur Starleague itself.
Special thanks to Fabiano for this Graphic
Maps and Format!
The moment you've all been waiting for... THE MAPS AND FORMAT!!!
The qualifiers will take place in the form of a ladder stage. The ladder stage will begin on Friday, April 6th at 13CET, and will come to a close on April 22nd at 13CET. All players that now sign up are now required to send a replay pack of 2 replays per matchup attached to their email forms.
The group stages will take place on April 29th and May 6th. There will be 8 groups, and 4 will be played on either day. The players in the groups will play round robin style to determine the top two players of each group. The top two players will then advance to the round of 16.
For the round of 16 and round of 8, players will compete in best of 3's on set maps, followed by best of 5's on set maps in the semifinals and finals, respectively.

Congratulations to you all for playing your best! I am pleased to announce that we are now finished with our ladder stage and the groups are in the process of being chosen. Thank you all for your participation and good luck to those who have qualified!
"I was surprised at how well the first day went. There were many people online, many people playing and refusing to dodge. There are a few people regrettably avoiding specific match-ups, but I have not seen people avoiding specific players. With a pool of ~80-90 people, having many people play over 20 games on the first day is phenomenal. I think the next 15 days will see competition as heated as this for the first half of it at least; closer to the end, I imagine that the top 10-20 ranks will be satisfied with the security of their position and will stop playing for fear of losing more points than they would gain. On this subject, I predict that the top 28 will be in the C to C- range. This means that there might begin some rank dodging or rank smashing - C people avoiding other C people and bashing the D/D- people or vice versa, depending on their strategy. Gotta wait and see, it's sure to be exciting ^^ I think allowing seeded players play in the ladder has taken its toll already, with players like dsyxelic and S2Glow already dishing out 32 losses xD However, if people can't beat them on ladder, then they probably won't beat them in the tourney! My predictions for top finishers outside of the seeds: ToKa, Lumire, Probe."-ASL)TaeGukGi
[Q]Hello Nikon-uuuu! How are you?(That rhymed) [A] Hello. I'm doing well, thank you for asking.
[Q]Day 2 of ladder being over, what are your thoughts and how do you like it? [A] So far the ladder has been good to me in terms of finding games. Overall activity is good, but there are still some people with 0 played games. You know who you are, get going ^^
[Q]How do you see your chances along with the other D+ invites? [A] My chances personally? If I make it into Top 50, I'd be fully satisfied. I'm probably the worst player out of everyone that got drafted into the qualifier, so I expect the other D rankers to do better than me ^^
[Q]Being 6-27, do you feel like you are out? Or are you going to continue to battle your way back? [A] The result may seem discouraging, but it's only day 2. There are literally hundreds of games left to be played, no joke. Of course that I will continue "battling" my way back. Playing 0 games just doesn't seem the right thing to do once I got into this tournament.
[Q]Who will be top 3 of ladder? [A] Top 3 ladder will be fold, ajmbek and LETALiS imo.
Thanks and have a wonderful day!!! Thanks for this interview and good luck to everyone participating.
[Q]Hihi Nina! How art thou? A - thou art fine, I thanketh thee and yet thee be fine as well? Thou art a votary to fond desire methinks.
[Q]What are your thoughts on the ASL ladder so far? A - The ladder really slowed down a lot after the second day. I see some of the better people playing each other, but a few people are just farming for points. I'm honestly kind of worried that all the C- people will drop out, which will make it difficult to have a positive win ratio if I keep going.
[Q]Top 5 movies. Go. A - The Matrix, Kill Bill, Monsters Inc., I'm a Cyborg But That's Okay, V for Vendetta
[Q]How do you fair against the other ASL players? A - Not as well as I would have liked, and I feel like I really underperformed, so I'm kind of disappointed in myself. I just need to keep practicing and get better. Playing the ASL ladder is a lot different than the regular ladder, because a lot of friends on bw are playing in the tour, so they might be used to my 'style' (if that's what you could call it), but I think I can manage if practice a few different builds.
[Q]Are you having fun and/or improving? A - The first couple of days, I didn't have much fun, I'm sorry to say. The losses have jump-started my resolve to improve, which is a step in the right direction.
[Q]Top 5 laundry detergents. Go. A - I don't think anyone can compete with Tide right now as far as laundry detergent goes. Half a cup of Tide will get out some very tough stains, and so the amount-of-detergent-to-cleanliness ratio is unsurpassed by Tide for sure. Cheer and Wisk are okay, as well, and even Arm & Hammer is not bad - but I don't foresee them being able to stay competitive with Tide unless they make adjustments to their formula. It's hard to pick a fifth, because I know a lot of people would say it's Purex, but Purex is more like Pureshit in my personal opinion. I guess I would go with All for fifth place.
[Q]Do you see yourself qualifying? A - Qualifying, even in a mid-level player league, is difficult. It's not impossible to think I could qualify for a play-off spot, but I would need to work hard. The players are so good, and I have a lot of respect for them.
[Q]Who do you see finishing top 3 in the ASL ladder? (Excluding invites) A - Top 3... wow. Really tough question. It also depends on if certain players play. I know IpMan (The bulgarian player) is really good, but he hasn't played. Asmodey, Action, and Wallace all seem like top contenders, so I would think they would make it, but who really knows? xD Some of the lesser-known Bulgarian players could also do it, as well as favorites, like Lumire, Dsyxelic, and S2Glow.
[Q]Cool! Thanks so much for the interview :D Any shout outs or comments? A - Okay - shoutouts to dRaW, TrueFool, Gecko[Xp], Dayfly, Flossy, Raven, Seriosity, Zucrow, Nelson, Shaise, Hakurei[AoV], ma gurl Jannilyn cuz we down 4 lyfe, Telecom[name], L_master, Hacklebeast, Sayle, Fry, Shalashaska, Zaraki, Skye, h00li and team Nb, Joekim (gj kicking LRM's butt), infestedhuman, drunken_raynor, iCCup.Fry, QuickStriker, Shotcoder (thx 4 tour due 2 shield battery), UED_WhiterOse, defiler.ru, the Russian SC community (spasibo!), Nikon, Beer, Richard, my mom, my awesome team [wOk], CowGoesMoo, LRM)nOoNe, Lumire, and of course, sunny_j for the nexus snipe. <3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

[Q]Hey Chocolate! How are ya pal? Hihi! I'm doing ok! Much Starcraft today
[Q]How are you liking the ladder so far? It's ok maybe. I am really sad at cheese in ladder but I will do better!
[Q]So you've kind of come on this past day as a true contender. You won the the 2nd ladder tour and came in 2nd in the 3rd. How do you feel about these? They are fun and helped me find games. Wands you rematch me soon k? ;P
[Q]Knowing your hatred for cheese in this ladder, do you have any kind of message towards teh cheesers? Less cheese more ggs please. I know you bad at macro but it's ok =)
[Q]What's your favorite kind of cheese? (If you don't say Swiss Cheese, I'll die) >.< you too punny!
[Q]So who do you see being top 3 of the ladder? Top 3 is a tough choice. I don't know many players =(. But I like Me, Wands and Lumire.
[Q]Any thoughts on these Canadian and Bulgarian clubs arising in the ASL? Is it too mafia-like? I don't know >.< it's weird. I hear Lumire talk of American team too.
[Q]Say something in your native language for us. Grüezi mitenand!
[Q]Any last comments? Not many terrans makes me sad =(
[Q]Hey there, eh! How are you, eh? (I know, lame jokes tt) [A]Hiya, eh!! I'm from Canada, eh! I'm feeling stoked! woo! Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto Shimy~
[Q]How has your ladder experience been so far? [A]It has been fantastic and I'm lovin' it! The ladder is ideal for someone like me - like Cinderella finding her perfect glass slippers. It is both fun and competitive and also the community is awesome in wanting to help you to get better by pointing out your flaws in your game.
[Q]Being #1 on the ladder, have you noticed people dodging? [A]Nobody is scared of me~ Everybody wants a piece of my pie. I don't blame them - they get the right pot odds to call since the rank disparity among us, lets see... they only risk losing 25 points while I am at risk for almost 200 of mine, but little do they know that they are running dead after the flop =P.
[Q]Favorite person to play on the ladder? [A]Lumire, dsyxelic, and zimp all have winning records against me so I love learning from my losses and eventually overcoming them to seek vengeance!
[Q]What is the Canadian Men's Club like? Any secrets you can share? [A]First I'd like to thank Anklebreak for taking me in after he spotted me wandering the streets homeless. The Superior Canadian Gentleman's Club helped me get back on my feet and confidence back to tackle on any obstacles in my way. All I can share is that it's real and it's spectacular!
[Q]Who do you think will end as top 3 on the ladder? [A]There is a ton of players who are all worthy to be at the top, but there are also a lot of variables to access who will eventually be the top 3 on the ladder. Like I don't know what their agenda is - like do they have school, work, family, how serious they are taking it, etc. so I will base my top 3 on their current skill, dedication, time, and their potential to improve as a player. Also I am narrowing it down to the people I have played. So #1 goes to Lumire - bright and analyzing, #2 Hardi - strong multitasking and mechanics, and #3 Dsyxelic - smart and strategic. Other honorable notables go to Vasek - knowledgable, Heihachi - myriads of strategical builds, Chocolate - great timings, Asmodey - a machine, Anklebreak - tricky, LETALiS - rock hard, Zimp - 4-0'd me, Ninazerg - special tactics (he tried to 3 hatch speedling all-in bust me)
[Q]Any last comments? [A]I will not be as active from April 15th - April 24th due to school. I wish everyone in the league good luck in the rest of the ladder and I'd also like to give a big thank you to the sponsors: NoisE, Nebopolis, and Sayle - and also the organizer Shimy. They refuse to let Broodwar succumb and I commend them! Thank you~
Thanks and good luck with the rest of the tour! :D
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT The finishing top 6 of the ladder will receive the power to pick their groups. That being said, the invites also receive the power to change them. Lumire and S2Glow get to make 1 change each after the groups are chosen, and Snipin_Panda and Dsyxelic get to make 2 each. I hope this makes people hungry for that top spot!!! NO DODGING >>
Message from Player
[Q]Hey Choco-... I MEAN NOISE! How have you been?
Lol Hey now, I'm doing pretty good actually, feeling a bit under the weather and tired but I'm still battling!
[Q]So, now that it's leaked that you are actually ASL.Chocolate, do you have anything to say?
Narp, nuffin to say to that at all. I think I made an explanation in the thread that would make everyone at least somewhat happy.
[Q]Do you feel like things will change these last 9 days of the ladder?
I expect a bit more dodging and a bit more all ins/Cheesing. But the only reason I think there won't be as much dodging now as before is because I called the whole ASL out that I would get dodged as Noise.
[Q]Did you expect this thing to stay under wraps this whole time?
Nah not really, I kinda expected it to get figured out sooner when I finished in the top two of two tours while beating some pretty decent players. To be honest I'm kinda offended no one connected the dots. The best terran on ladder someone they've never heard of? come on guys lets get real here
[Q]How much of the BM nonsense was an act to really sell the character?
To sell the character? None at all, because I was behind a mask? All of it. How much did I really care what people thought of Chocolate when the groups stages finally came I would be known as Noise again? I had a good time with it, and it was pretty well played out. I don't think very many people even had a clue. And since my roommate spent a couple years over there I had the benefit of his knowledge of the area.
[Q]Being that it's going to be announced that the top 6 of the ladder get to pick groups, how hard are you going to play these last 9 days?
Play hard because of that? Not at all. I play hard because I'm competitive, so I'm going to play just as hard as I normally would even with this added bonus to top 6.
[Q]Have you enjoyed the mini tours? You are 2-1 as far as winning them goes.
I have indeed loved the mini tours. Great practice for the BO3 system and get some ladder games in as well. having a super fun time trying to play in as many as possible.
[Q]How many people do you think will cheese you now?
I expect the same people to cheese me now as before. Now all-ins? I expect a lot more ling all ins in the coming days. but what can I say. If that's what it takes ;P
[Q]Any change to your top 3? The competition is looking heated
I wouldn't change my top 3 at all. I still believe there will be a dM finals if the brackets and groups are nice to us. The only outlier is Lumire, his ZvP is really good and I hear he's been practicing with some people on his TvZ. Wands looks really strong in both PvP and TvP and with majority of people being P in this tour I feel he has an advantage there. But there are plenty of other good players you might see in the top, Dsyxelic, Fold, Hardi, Plus, S2glow. This ladder is full of good players so it's a lot of adapting and improving.
SHOUT OUT TO PSY REAVER AND ALL DAH HATERS! YOU CAN LOVE ME OR HATE ME BUT I'M HERE BABY AND ONLY THING STOPPING ME FROM WINNING THIS TOUR IS MYSELF SON!
Best of luck to you, NoisE! Thank you so much for donating your hard earned cash for Broodwar! You are keeping it alive and making a fun competition environment for all teh C rankers! :D
[Q]Hey Lumire! How's it going? Sad that telecom is dodging shotcoder after calling him out for a grudgematch.
[Q]Enjoying your ladder experience? Being top 3 must be nice ^^ Yeah so far so good, and i bet you were waiting to interview me as soon as i drop to 2nd T_T. Very few Z's though which is a good thing because ZvZ is bullshit.
[Q]Having a pretty gosu Win/loss record, are you feeling pretty good going into this tournament? Yeah i seem to be going through another stage of improvment that i have occasionally which is a very good thing. I have been practicing a lot with dsyxelic zvp which is good because i really needed another protoss to practice with and AleC in zvt because he rapes me.
[Q]Do you see yourself taking the whole thing? I think i have a lot of weak points in my play to certain things so i probably wont win, especially since there is a lot of new people like Redeyez and wands who are amazing at PvZ and people like AleC who destroy me in TvZ. Oh yeah and zvz is bullshit and i seem to be pretty awful at rock paper scissors so i might lose that too.
[Q]Snipin_Panda, Dsyxelic, and S2Glow are the other invites. How do you see their chances in this thing when we get to group stages? Snipin_Panda retains a surprising amount of skill when hes inactive so he might place far, depends on how much he practices. Dsyxelic is actually playing bw now and is looking fucking scary. As for S2Glow i don't think hell get such an easy bracket this time. ^^
[Q]Why isn't Snipin_pandA laddering? Is he afraid of people learning his style? Nah hes just addicted to DotA 2 now ^^
[Q]Is there a huge skill difference in yourself and the other players since the sGsCRO? I think i have sorta clogged a lot of the holes in my zvp play (thanks dragOn) and my ZvT is getting a lot better, i think i actually consider it a matchup of mine now (thanks Game). ZvZ is fucking bullshit (have i said this already?).
[Q]Seeing as you get 1 change to groups, will you use this to make groups easier on yourself? Or use it to make groups harder on another individual? Ill probably end up putting Wallace or Plus in Shotcoders group for teh lolz.
[Q]Would you care to explain your "Dodging" to people? Yeah sometimes i just don't feel like playing rock paper scissors so all Z's back off plz, thx.
[Q]Who do you think will be top 3 of the ladder stage once it's all said and done? I think top 3 will be Me, Dsyxelic and either Wands or Redeyez, if Redeyez plays more he could take #1 since hes probably the most underrated player by far in the tourney.
[Q]Besides the ladder stage, are you training in any other ways? Whenever i find the time to pry myself away from the new Sins of a Solar Empire besides laddering i'm probably playing AleC or the really nice LRM) folk on fish who help me a lot (especially dragOn and Game).
[Q]Thanks for the interview ^^ Any shout outs? Shoutouts to harem for revealing yummychocolate and Valve for prying panda away from BW with dota 2. And AleC who seems to have a habit of making zergs quit bw so i don't have to zvz. And Shotcoder for making telecom look like a pussy and getting him to quit bw once and for all.
Thanks so much and good luck to you!
Please don't forget to signup for the ladder tours:
[Q]Hello Wallace! Как сте?(Google translate ftw) Hello Shimy, sup =)! Добре съм, благодаря !(I'm fine, thank you)!
[Q]What's your ladder experience been like so far? Well I have to say it felt a lot like starting a new season on iccup in the beginning, because all of the players are C level obviously, but now I got used to it. I think everyone is pretty skilled, some more than others and some need to practice a bit more. But all in all I think a lot of people will improve at least a bit during the ladder stage.
[Q]Give us some insight on the sexy Bulgarian club. LOL, well I made it as a joke, but yeah, I personally think we Bulgarians are cool and good looking people =)! I wanted to let the superior canadian gentleman dudes know they have a rival, a sexy one for that matter =D!
[Q]Who do you think will be atop the ladder once it's all said and done? I think all of the people that are currently C- and C rank are about C+ level. Probably all of them are, I haven't checked the records of all of them, but I know most of them hit C+ so I think the top of the ladder will be mainly settled down among these players. Luckily for me, I am one of those players =D!
[Q]Who do you enjoy playing most, and who are you afraid of playing the most? I enjoy playing almost everybody. There are few people that left me with bad impressions, but in general most of the players are gm and cool people. I am not afaid of anybody!
[Q]Do you see yourself winning the whole tournament? To be honest, I don't, but I would try my best to do so. I'd say I have my chances, but nothing is certain in Brood War since it is a really hard game to play and your play is always on and off.
[Q]What is your favorite match up and why? My favourite match up is PvZ, I think it is the hardest match up to master with Protoss. And besides that, it is the most fun and intensive one to play =). I started to like PvT too. The only match up I despise is PvP("can't read my, can't ready my, no he can't read my poker face..")
[Q]Do you see any dodging going on in the ladder? Anyone you'd like to point out? Not a whole lot of dodging but there are people that dodge. For example, Lumire is one of them. I still want a bo5 with him, but I don't think he will ever give me one =(.
[Q]Have you trained outside of the ASL ladder? Well I've been practicing a bit for the ISL as well. Some of you guys may know I qualified for that, though through sheer luck =D! So yeah, I'm getting some practice in for that with my sc buddies.
[Q]Who would you like to be in your group if you make it out of the qualifiers? Well, I would like to have Lumire in my group so that way he can't dodge me =). Otherwise, I am fine with whatever rolling the dice leaves me with. Maybe I'd also like it if we don't end up only Bulgarians in my group =D. But the chances for that are low, I hope.
[Q]Any shouts outs?^^ I would like to give a shout out to all the sponsors for this event, aka - dM-Noise, Nebopolis, Sayle, the organiser being you - Shimy =), the voluntary casters being - L_Master and Psyonic_Reaver, the staff and crew of course =D - LRM)nOoNe, CobaltBlu, Pholon, Zimp and your graphics buddy - Shiroiusagi. You guys are doing an awesome job keeping our BW alive and making this tournament really fun and inspiring so far. So big shout out to all of you guys and thanks =)!
[Q]Hello Panda! How have you been doing? I've been better. Need to finish my school projects with a broken hand TT;;
[Q]How's the ladder-... Err, Dota 2 been treating you? () It's pretty fun. Only reason why I've been playing so much dota is that I found a group of people to play with.
[Q]Ok, so word on the street is you broke your finger, leg, neck, etc etc. Can you give us the story of what's up with your injury? I tripped on bamboostairs while holding a cup and now my right hand is broken
[Q]Will this be effecting you with your ASL participation? I dunno. Depends on how my hand feels in two weeks. Right now I can't even use a mouse with my right hand, and I've been typing with my left hand. Maybe I'll cast stuff if I can't play, I'm fairly free for next couple of weeks.
[Q]I heard Shotcoder was going to make a Panda vs Stairs Grudgematch. Who would win this rematch? I think I want to dodge. This whole hand breaking thing is really depressing. Also, I'm pretty sure stairs plays protoss, it doesn't even use apm to win wtf.
[Q]Ok, enough with the joking! ^^ Have you been following the ASL ladder stage at all? Not really >>;; I was going to ladder this week, but now my hand broke.
[Q]What do you think of the competition? Harder than the sGsCRO? Uh, can't really say, since I havn't laddered. I hear it's pretty difficult though. sGsCRO, I got lucky in, so I guess it's harder, with more drama as well.
[Q]If you can play, do you see yourself competing for finals? No, too out of practice. Also, even if I was at my best, I'm not really that good
[Q]If you can't play, who would you like to win the whole thing? Probably lumire, since he's a good friend.
[Q]Thanks for the interview! Any shout outs you'd like to give? Shoutout to lumire for being AngryZerg still and tryin TvZ and failing miserably, shoutout to Ni.Tank for god knows what, Shoutout to takk, for dealing with my inactiveness, shoutout to harem for being harem.
Good luck with your healings and be sure to eat lots of bambo! We all hope to see you in groups ^^
Sadly the ladder period is my busiest period of the semester so I can't compete, but I'm looking forward to seeing this tournament unfold! Huge thanks to the sponsors!
IMO anyone you don't really know you should probably not invite as they are smurfs. Also, if they are able to scratch B- it's really hard to tell anymore as absolutely nobody is laddering in iccup so they could possibly be beating D+/C- all the way to B-.
On March 22 2012 04:08 Jealous wrote: Oh fuck yes ^^ Gonna practice hard for this and hopefully get back to legit yellow ranks
I'm so glad! That's what I was hoping would drive C rankers into improving
What if someone reaches blue ranks during the ladder stage? Or they get to like 5900 and stop playing?
The ladder will be C ranks only. It's only natural if you are playing only C ranks that the other C ranks will surpass C ranks because there's no B- and up for them to lose to consistently. C ranks can become B ranks in the ladder stage just as they can become D ranks. There's no D or B ranks to deal with. Hence, that removes the issue of players breaking the gap.
(That seems like it's really hard to understand after I wrote it LOL)

sorry double post cause this is too interesting and very cool.. i am really excited. heheheh well imo is just only invite people who join the c rank open because money = smurfs

You say absolutely nobody- there are still roughly 650 on yellow in 1v1 ladder. It's also relevant that people WILL come off their new-fangled fish server laddering to prove eligibility for this tourney.

Therefore, through deep analysis, there is no other conclusion to draw other than Snipinpanda is actually Scan.

Just to make this as clear as possible, the ladder stage will be between the players on the iccup team ONLY. This means that if you aren't playing people who are on the very same team as you once the ladder starts, you are doing it wrong. Thank you.

Accusing others of being scan, a clever ploy to cover up the fact that you, are indeed scan.
Since it's only matches within the team, a good way to avoid smurfs is just to not play people you don't know, amirite? That way smurfs won't get any games.

Just cause you know them doesn't mean they wont cheat at some point in the league and just cause you don't know them, doesn't mean they are smurfs, in fact I don't see any kind of tie here. It's likely that the ladder stage has some smurfs, also likely that players get people to play for them in the later stages, just going to have to see if Shimy is prepared for this. Bottom line, even if you ladder a legit C rank, you have no idea if he'll cheat later on.
P.S. I hope some higher ranked teams will be paying attention here for some new talent!

1)You do not have to join the team, but if you want to ladder aside the fellow players, you are more than welcome.
2)Maps are still being discussed.
3)You need to send another email notifying of any IP change and the staff will ask everyone to submit their IP's each round.
4) We're kicking butts and taking names when it comes to smurfs
I would like every B- and up player to know that I fully support this event as well as Shimy's efforts in preparing it. If any of you are caught smurfing into this league, you will receive a permanent ban from any league which involve myself as the organization.
After this C ranks skill is going to increase the gap of skill between C- and D+ so much that reaching C is going to be an impossible feat. (first world problems)

To be honest, that's the way it should be :D C ranks should have some pride for being as good as they are
Why is that? It's as easy as signing up and laddering :D I really hope you join!
probably because i have to play people within the group and i highly doubt that alot of them can make. in addition if i make it to the group stages if my opponent can't host then im pretty much screw cause i have weird net problems that doesn't allow me to have 2+ player in a game.
i tried using hamachi or garena with some help and was successful in having 2+ player and even hosting but highly doubtful we will be using that method.
so if you can find a for me to play then great but if not then it will just be one less player in this event.

Quite a few of them can host though (At least most of the ones I know) It wouldn't hurt to at least join to do the ladder stages and if you make it out of them, I'm sure we can find some way around your net problems ^^

I'm guessing you've tried both lat tricks before?
Even Jealous here is willing to play a Bo12 with someone and he can host :D
So I have to register a new acc. and join the team. OK. But how am I supposed to find players from the team to play ladder games with? There are so few players these days anyway. I just don't get it.
Other than that, C rank players are pretty consistent in their ladder performance. I'll always get to C/C+ and that's it. What's the point of the ladder stage in a C rank players tournament?
I like the idea and I love what you are trying to do, I'm just not sure that's the right way to do it. I'll probably join and take part in the action. Hopefully I'm wrong and it will all be great

Play games.
If there are a decent amount of players it shouldn't be hard to find games. If it is, message people in the thread and set up game times if you have to. Also, if it is hard to find opponents, I am sure it will be hard for everyone else; therefore, closer margins for success for anyone! It'll be neck-to-neck and that will make people more eager to play games.
So: I can host and i am definitlly going to Play it (:
I hope maps will be new and oriented to PSL
I only fear finding a game i am laddering mostly before 13 cet and there is really low players, if there will be usa players they will start laddering at 21-24 cet witch is really late for me

i have the same problem as you and i managed to get through the whole tourny previously. players can just do hamachi in the later stages and there are more people who can host than not.
and i might make an account and ladder to give people some games and take off points muahaha ^^
I do encourage the invitees to play the ladder! It will be fun and give players someone to play :D
I would do this but the ee han anti timing lines up right with last few weeks of semester/exams in april (assuming if I could even do anything past ladder stages).
Why can't it be you just ladder against anyone then the top 28 get through? If it's only against other people on the team then it might be hard to get games if you don't live in the same time zone.
What happens if you ladder to B- while beating C~ rank people?
Won't this be a little difficult to play only the people on the same team?? What if you play at late hours at night and no one is online?...I guess you have to Sync the time you play with everyone else to ensure you make it past the ladder stages? :-P Not complaining just very curious, as I have never seen any thing like this before. ( in the sense we are allowed to only play people on the same team)

I feel like the latter issue is solved by the in-team ladder system as I find it hard to believe that anyone will get to B- during the short time of the ladder play. The in-team system is good because it prevents people from farming D rank players, for example.
Shimy addressed your latter issue as well, saying that it wouldn't be ridiculous to hit B- because you're only playing C- to C+ rank players in the league, if you're the best C ranked player IN THE TEAM it's only natural that you can hit B- with the limited selection of opponents.

Like I said before, you can ask people to arrange games ahead of time if you're having trouble. Also, if EVERYONE is having trouble playing games, then the competition will be very close for the top 28, and I imagine that would spur people to play more. I don't think finding games will be that great of an issue though, as the money incentive should net enough people for there to be a decent amount of participants. There are likely to be many people from many different timezones as well.
Playing within the group is being way too emphasized. The lack of foresight is, well, bothering. There will only be 28 players qualifying, out of 500 active C rank players. This league is set up right to have ample signups, and seems to have the exposure necessary to prevent a lack of playing. Chill out, drink a beer, make an iCCup account, join the team, hope you make it into the 5-7% of players who sign up that qualify, no?

That depends, have you ever in your whole playing time been above the rank of C+? If so, no. It's for the max achieved rank of C-,C, C+. Everyone can ask themselves if they've ever been above C+. If you have, then this tournament is not for you.

Thanks for your awareness though :D There's also a slightly active clan called ASL. I don't know what it stands for, I just know that when I was trying to make the iccup team, I had to use ACSL instead of ASL lol
i belive that as the turny havent started jet the rules can not apply.... also games played vs opponent non on team will seamply be remuved. i have played 1 game on mine asl acc just to try it, it was mine intention to play a few more.... of corse clearing stats before tournament starts.

iCCup admins can check transfer logs.
i dont think a transfer log would prove that a friend gave him b-. it could be just one of his own accounts. and i dont see why he would have any reason to have someone to get him b- unless he was trying to impersonate being b-... pretend being b- then stop once an opportune time appears?
i just think these cases walk a fine line and leave room for abuse.
Well, if the account that transferred it had a different IP, then it would be unlikely to be him IMO (especially since his hypothetical friend probably doesn't live in his vicinity).
Along with the information that players were previously told to send, a small replay pack of 2 games per matchup are now required. Please no games under 10 minutes (This rule does not apply to ZvZ).
This also means that players that have already signed up are still required to send this replay pack.
Also, dM-White was found to be too gosu and unfortunately cannot play in this tournament.

You have to start the ladder with 0-0 stats. If on April 6th I see an account with anything other than 0-0, I will not accept it into the clan and therefore it cannot participate in the ladder.

Firstly I have to commend you people for setting up this tournoment. Great Initiative. I am going to join up for sure. But first 2 quick question:
Forgive me, but Im not familier with the underlined term. Care to explain? + Show Spoiler +
The group stages will take place on April 29th and May 6th. There will be 8 groups, and 4 will be played on either day. The players in the groups will play round robin style to determine the top two players of each group. The top two players will then advance to the round of 16.
Secondly Why spread the tournamentt into 2 servers and why not stick to the all-familier-and known Iccup server? This is just a mere reflection not criticism on my side.

Round Robin Style means that each person in the pool plays each other once. Kind of like a rotating thing ^^

You'll be required to give full details about the situation and notifications an advance. Any player which this would apply to (which essencially should be none) would be under very tight scruteny.
We'd be keeping a very close eye on you and you might have a lot of trouble in the Group stage of the tournament. :/
aka I wont participate T_T
Shimy, you shouldn't be so strict about this. Its easy to check if its the same player from the replay. IP is more important in the ladder stage because of the high amount of reps.
is that working=? hahaha, or do you need a vouch from a dude from the barrio., ahhahahhahaha
All this info needs to be sent to NoiseASLRegistry@gmail.com. It will not be taken in on this thread.
Also, I wasn't trying to discourage you from playing. I was just letting you know that we'll just constantly need updates from you and it could be just a tad tedious on your side.

I don't think I should join then, unless I get to C- by the 6th (unlikely, my schedule is very busy next week). Please remove me from the team/tournament if I don't, thanks.

I don't really understand this, I mean, I think everyone should apply... I applied, if they see fit to refuse your application and mine, then that's up to the tournament. It's like when you're applying for jobs, let the employer determine if your skills are suitable.
it is different context for applying job because what if a player keep play this low level person and get high points? well unless there is another rules stating which is everyday u cant play with the same person more than 3 time etcetc...

You can only play one player 12 times in the league iirc. Still, this is exactly the mentality I have behind my decision: unlike CRO, in this my noobiness will be affecting the results potentially greatly. If there are 5 people like me, one entrepreneur can end up with 60 wins, for example! Of course that's the upper limit, but still the concept remains. That's why I don't want to participate if my skills are not up to snuff.

Eywa is right. I probably shouldn't have said it in the way that I did. People can sign up as they choose. The staff will then determine the ones eligible to play.

Honestly I think their should be some structure to the ladder like a league format where you have to play someone a certain amount of times. Or I could be wrong and it could work out but just sounds scary. What about having player id's anonymous like ASL-player1 etc.
I think of instead of it being only play a maximum of 20 games against a single player, it should rather be no more than 1200 points taken from a player or so.

It's 12 games vs. a single player now iirc, which is pretty close to what you said.

YES. Totally irrelevant.
You're not a part of this league or it's staff, so I don't understand why you're posting here. I think mini-tours should be allowed to reward the active people in the league - but - should be held under the jurisdiction of the ASL staff.

Thanks for your concern! Tournaments like this are not allowed, however, we're looking into mini-tournaments that are daily for players that have trouble finding games.

I'm planning on streaming my ladder games on a delayed stream (my practice games will be strictly NOT streamed for obvious reasons). I think you'll be fine if you do this. Just FYI- XSplit has a built in stream delay.

If you have any friends that are in C ranks, please let them know to sign up! Also, I think a few of our email signups have not made ASL accounts and joined the iCCup team, so please do so! Here are a few tips for the ladder:
1) For ease of replay packs, just place all your current auto reps into another folder so that you can start the ladder with a clean folder and you want have to do any sorting ^^
2) Any notice of a mini tour will come in the form of an iCCup PM to your ASL account, so check it daily!
3) Don't dodge! It's not about dodging people. It's not fun, it doesn't create a good ladder environment, and it won't get you any points. ;P
4) Strive to be at the top of the ladder! The top X amount of players will receive something AMAZING
5) Seeing someone in the channel and saying "go game?" to only end up playing A game isn't really the best way to go about things. If you see someone willing to play, say "Go BoX?". This will be beneficial to both players and will actually get games played!
6) Maps will be released very shortly, so be sure to ladder on those maps with your fellow ASL buddies to get to know them better and devise special strategies for them! :D
7) Last, but not least, you may only ladder vs other people in the team. Do not play anyone else on ladder with the ASL account during this stage of the tournament.
Thank you and good luck to you all! Please spread the word to as many people as you know! If everybody can make it a point to tell at least 5 C ranks that haven't signed up yet, then you would be doing yourself and everybody else in the ASL a huge favor! Also raising the bar of the entire tournament ;D

Wait, really? This seems counter intuitive. What's the point of laddering for invitees, then? Not sure why krndandaman keeps trying to make pariahs out of invitees. If I'm going to do my best in ladder and somehow manage to get a qualifying spot, why should I be excluded? I'd think that even if you were invited, a participant remains a participant.

haha you should teach your fellow terran some basic manners ;P
and thanks shimy, time to ladder! i guess if us invites manage to get a top spot in the ladder we're going to be excluded from the qualifying list? (ie. top 16 qualify and 2 invitees are in top 16 so #17/18 get in)
Yeah you would be excluded haha It's top 28 btw ;P Get ready to play some games! Maps and Format incoming^^

He's laddering for the prize that the top x amount of players get. Plus, he's laddering to give people like you games. I appreciate him wanting to participate in this stage.

Fair enough. Don't mind me btw. I think what you're doing for the community is amazing and most certainly appreciate the invitation. I just spend a lot of time studying political interaction and philosophy and my horse senses felt funny. I'm not sure what you meant by people like me, but that's not important. Thanks for your hard work Shimy.

Yeah, like Eywa- said. I'm not belittling you or anything. I just meant, with everyone concerned about people giving them games and this ladder being able to work out, I'm glad that there's a few extra people that want to participate even though they don't have to ;D

@Shimy: My bad. I completely misunderstood what krndandanman was talking about when he brought up invitees. Yeah, everything he said makes sense now. I hear ya.
@Eywa: I'm not familiar with the acronym. Edit: ooo nvm I got it.
Tomorrow at this time, you should all be laddering away! ;D That's right! Less than 24 hours away until the ladder stage starts! It will begin at exactly 13:00CET! So don't start before
I wish you all a good luck and hope you do well! You are welcome to stream your ladder stage and spread the word about the ASL! The more people that know about it, the better.
When you make account, it should be possible to search our database for it. These names were not proper names as sent in e-mail. If you have not yet sent an e-mail, please send and re-join team. If you sent an e-mail, please re-join team with the correct ID. Several people have sent e-mail but not yet join team.
LADDER HAS BEGUN! I have accepted all the names into the ladder and you may now begin playing people! We will always meet in op ASL for games! So go there ;D

S2Glow (honorary member) + WandS + Anklebreak. Together we form the "Superior Canadian Gentlemen's Club of ASL" and we shall place #1, #2 and #3 in the ASL ladder by total domination.
If you beat any one of us and take 50 pts away, all 3 of us will work together to devise a master strategy and take 500 pts from you in revenge.

Is that a rhetorical poll? Meaning its a poll that's not supposed to be answered since EVERYONE knows that the Superior Canadian Gentlemen's Club will sweep all the top spots? I think the two groups should stay separate and we could do Canadian Gentlemen vs Sexy Bulgarian team league Who's casting?
I think these tours will skew the results of the ladder because there could be the chance that someone is not able to play in tournaments thus they lose out on points and people who get lucky in 1-2 games can gain a massive amount of points. It kinda defeats the purpose of a ladder segment if your going to constantly have tournaments.

They are meant for people that can't find games to find games. You would be playing them regardless, this is just an organized way of doing it. There's no real difference LOL We're still keeping track of how many games a single person has played another single person. I don't really get at all how you come to this conclusion that they will skew the results

For people not finding games? Isn't Chocolate in the channel all the time but not playing? I also think these tournaments distort the ladder. I checked the brackets, it's basically free points.

If the tournaments are not giving extra points then there is no real problem but if they are, then its not fair to those people who are in different time zones and can not play in them. This is a ladder segment. The top 28 from ladder should be attained by those who work hard for it by playing games.

I'm fairly certain they don't give points. The reason people go up in points so drastically is because they get to play like 10 games straight, and the winner of the tournament wins >66% of the games usually. This means that at D/C ranks, 66% is a constant benefit to your ladder score. I think the tournaments are a great way for people to get more games in instead of having to sit in channel and /c m "game anyone?"

FIRST! Go read the second post! Updated top 10 and a super awesome interview with Chocolate!!!
SECOND! The little minitours in no way effect the ladder lol I'm surprised at the amount of thinking people are doing(Obviously not very much :S) You don't receive points from anything but the person you take them from. Therefore, it's just as you were playing a ladder game. So Yaqoob, WhuazGoodJaggah, S2Glow, and Mewka, these tours you guys are missing out on are just normal, organized ladder games. Yeesh....
THIRD! I will continue to do them at less often, but better times for people. If no one tells me a good time for them, I'll just do them when I feel like it and you will again miss out on them. Please feel free to give me a time.
Oh cool fact: ASL.Lumire, ASL-HeiHachi, and ASL-Hardi never once participated in one of the mini tours! ;D (They are all C-)

There is someone who is Keyboard rank and still playing. I'm not going to allow trivial things just to raise someone's self-esteem lol Practice makes perfect and records don't have to look perfect. In this ladder, you are playing people you would never play at the beginning of a normal ladder season. This competition is tough and for good reason. THERE'S $205 AT STAKE :D If anything, you should be encouraging Nina to play hard and stay in this thing. It's certainly not impossible.

I appreciate the compliment but 10-21 is pretty weaksauce and after seeing the competition I do NOT think I will be able to qualify - so many people are so damn good! Either way, my new goal would definitely aid qualification (maybe less than dodging but more in the long run ^-^).

I'm going to start gaming in this league in my spare time during the week and on weekends. This should be amazing practice no matter what happens. Its usually hard to get constant C rank practice games (on ladder) on ICCup, unless you head over to the fish server.

o i dunno. i thought it would get u to play in ASL again. because i thought of it like this. even though your the only winless member on UED Academy for CRTL, i keep fielding you every week because i thought you had fun even when you loss. but i found out today after talking with you that you get really discouraged from losing in ASL so i thought i'd make it up for you by trying to convince shimy to allow you extra chances.
besides, i think you're a really good player. you should be top 15 if not, top 10. you are 14-1 vs me :o

I guess you are Dysxelic. Shimy sent me the link to this post so I thought I should defend myself by saying we are 4-1 in my favor.
Also I hope you don't feel to disheartened to find your only win as proxy robo vs 2fact on HBR =(
Maybe I'll see you in finals, I doubt it as you cant even win TvP with 12 nex vs failed bunker rush. Might need all ins the whole way but I think you're ok with that because it requires less actual skill, but who am I to judge? In my opinion neither one of us beats Wands or Lumire and I have yet to play Lumire.
But still the same see you in Groups, hope you're in my group so I can be the one to knock you out.

lol 2 of those losses were zvt and i out played you for majority of those games. i mean, you lose your academy as soon as you build it to a ling runby?lol. i just wanted to practice my muta micro which is why i only built muta ling for 20 minutes. i dont even play zvt; its not one of my listed matchups.
also that bunker rush didn't put you as far behind as you thought because you cancelled it and you only sent 2 scv's. your mine double expand put you back in the game; actually it probably put you ahead because i scouted it too late.
dont worry, i have many surprises for you if you even make it that far. theres a reason im playing ladder stage when i dont need to; and that reason isn't to win on ladder
lol im 3-3 vs wands and ive only been pvzing lumire (when we play for real i zvz like last tourny. his zvp too good). lumire is good and heaps better than you but i can hold my own against him.
hope you're in my group for an easy win
Oh I'm sorry let me reread all these excuses...
and Easy wins are nice but I believe they will all be mine when your cheeses fail.

as always, ignorant and in denial. feel free to keep your head stuck in the ground until i pull it out for you in the group stages
edit: lol call me cheeser but the only time i cheesed was in hbr and u did a 2fac LOl ironic
I believe the term is Gloating when you beat someone 4-1 not denial, but I guess an American would know...
I call you a cheeser yes. You can't macro to save your life. both games that went passed the 8 minute mark you fell apart because of bad scouting, bad positioning, bad builds, and bad overall game play. I mean we can sit here and argue that your e-penis is bigger but it doesnt bother me because the 4-1 is on my side.
Then you ask me why I didnt gg game 2? Why does it matter? I played bad and was upset to lose to someone who can't make it passed the 10 minute mark without some 4 gate/12nex/dt drop/proxy robo.
Btw I saw you asking for TvT practice in channel. Might be smart since your PvT is subpar.

Well Since the cat is out of the bag(no pun intended Black[cat]), Yea I'm Chocolate. Smurfing because I can guarantee 90% of this ladder would have either A)Dodged Me, B) Cheesed/Allin'd Me or C) Refused to Re me.
Is this slightly discouraging? Yea, but We'll still be seeing a NoisE vs Wands finals. So you all can put your little heads to rest.

lol i think you flatter yourself too much. Honestly i would rather you smurf just to screw with people cause its funny then because you think people will dodge you >_>

Why would people dodge Shotcoder? Have I missed something? Can't see why people would dodge anyone unless they are bored with the matchup - gotta admit i threw in the towel after the fifth pvp here the other day :b
Probably gonna ladder some later tonight, message me if anyone wants to play.
Lol that's some sick favoritism yo, I wanted to use the name "ShitFaced" because it represents ME as a person and was told no because there was no smurfing but just because he gave money to this thing he can be Chocolate? Fuck man.
I do think it was kinda conceited to say people would dodge you though... Some people (like me) don't care if you're Chocolate or Shotcoder, especially since the rank you would have gotten is the same? Thanks for the advice btw about vs. 5 fac. However, what I DO know now is how to beat you - the one time we met on ICCup, I won (; I know your weakness.
The non monetary ladder prize was announced and also, a short interview with our very own Choco-... NOISE!
Guys, just respect the guy He did this because he didn't want to get dodged. He actually wants to play as many games as he can in this ladder. Also, he's a sponsor of this league O_O Without him, none of this would be possible.
EDIT: Cool insight: If the ladder were to end right now, some of our beloveds would not make it! Those include: Lonelyprobe--(Aka Jealous>Aka ASL.TaeGukGi), Dr.Shrinker, Action, Kororo, Zergneedsfood, and Prof.Protoss! Everyone should be on these people nagging them to ladder so they qualify! :D

It's really hard to be open minded and friendly when you're constantly talking down to people, I'm not going to make any assumptions on whether you actually are better than most people because we are separated by many many miles, but don't do so and then expect people to like you. You've spoken to Shotcoder like he's a child in several threads, don't make any comments about how he is because you've been a dick.

This is correct. I was told to use my best-known ID, so I figured my highest ranking ID (the one that makes me eligible for this tournament) that was in the best-known clan I've been in was the best option.
I didn't think anyone would care or notice because I'm a nooby nobody.

Why do you even care? You've not been a part of this even though you could have. You're just making a scene to defame an up and coming organizer, honestly, if there were a smurf, I'm guessing there was a legitimate reason for it and I'm also guessing that other people requested to smurf and were denied. As would happen per usual in any league.
Seriously, I don't see any motive behind your post aside from removing credibility from the organization which is somewhat less than helpful for foreign Brood War.

if anything not participating makes me a neutral observer. all i see is an organiser using their position to leverage an advantage in the tournament. everyone would love to play under a smurf if they could, being able to play people without them drawing on your meta is huge. jealous aka fanatacist (right? or are you a different pbu i forget) said he wanted to play on one but was denied.
sorry if i'm not here sprinkling rose petals everywhere but as an observer of the tournament it makes the competition seem less fair if one person is gaining an unfair advantage that is smurfing while others are denied it despite asking.
as for my own participation, i couldn't commit to a tournament of this length of time due to uni commitments, i simply play when i can, so taking up a ladder spot only to have to forfeit later if i did qualify would be pointless
On April 13 2012 03:15 Kiante wrote: but at the same time you denied other people the right to smurf? lol.
Every invite of ISL1 and 2 had a smurf. We took retired players who played a similar style to said invites, matched their countries, and made sure they could speak that language. For instance, Heme was Marwin, and I entirely forgot Ace, Sziky's, etc. I think it's perfectly fair to allot such smurfs.

Can you do a little research before you jump into something you have no idea about? Am I really an organizer? I have absolutely nothing to do with the organization of this tournament. The only thing I provided here was a sponsorship. Playing on a Smurf didn't give me an advantage, I felt it gave me a level playing field, that's why I ask and was granted it. As stated already, if someone asked and provided a LEGITIMATE reason they would have been granted access. Hell I'm sure if Lumire or Dsyxelic would have been under a smurf no one here would fucking care but because it was me everyone is up in arms about it. Get the fuck over it. You are asshuming that I even play against these players on a daily basis. It's an unfair advantage in their favor if they know I was noise, not only are there VODs of me from GC, but there are multiple replay packs from ISL2 and ISL3 qualifiers. I dont know how you think that's fair at all when I only have the 3-4 games vs Lumire I've played months ago vs him to look back on. Or the one ladder game I play against Dsyxelic. Yea maybe you should do a bit more research before running your mouth like you know what you're talking about.
vods exist of you so therefore you need a smurf? What if fold had asked for a smurf, he streams alot. so do a ton of the people in this tournament. i'm sure i could go find a heap of fana replays if i wanted to, but he was denied a smurf while you were granted one. are you directly organising the tournament? no, but do you really think the dude running the tour is going to be like "no sponsor, you cant have a smurf".
lol.
not to mention you could literally have a 10 minute conversation with just about anyone who hangs around in op teamliquid to find out the playstyle of people like lumire etc, then use that information to gain an unfair advantage in the games you played against him under your smurf ID on the ladder. Just because you played in a streamed tournament one time doesn't mean you cant have a "fair" game against anyone else. you make it sound like every single person in the tour studied your vods from GC and you are completely ignorant of everyone elses playstyle, which is completely not the case...
Hmm... this has really gone too far. Honestly, I don't know how any of you can stand for blatant defamation even if you agree to the point that was brought up. We're not dealing with a murder here, we're not dealing with a case of abuse... Let it go.
Stuff like this has to stop in order for BW to survive, you can't have a solid improvement in the scene if at every turn people try to defame any organization that arises. Regardless of how strong you feel about your point, if you feel strongly about Brood War you wouldn't voice it.
defamation? Lol? how is that even a valid argument. I'm following a thread of a tournament I want to watch, and i see something going on that i dont agree with so i raise it in a public forum? Suddenly this is defamation? I'm not stating anything false to my knowledge, and I think it's important that tournaments have integrity. if we just let bullshit slide because someone is sponsoring then the tournament result because invalid, and it detracts from my own enjoyment of watching it, hence why i'm raising this issue here...on a public forum.
"doing it for Brood War" is exactly what i'm doing. just because proleague is switching to sc2 doesn't mean we suddenly have to accept sillyness. if anything, we need to fight against it. once tournaments get compromised by biased treatment of players based on arbitrary bullshit like "i played in gc so people could go study my playstyle if they wanted to" while others are denied the same right, the issue should at least be raised, rather than calling me out for defamation of character or some bullshit lol.

Not that I particularly needed a smurf, I just wanted one because I like changing names ^^ Plus, ASL.ShitFaced is an awesome name... I was debating on having ASL.WutsUrSign like "age/sex/location? wuts ur sign bby?" xD.
Also, I don't think it's super unfair that he got a smurf because we can download his replays as he participated in the ASL tournaments, I downloaded a few ^^. Obviously it's not the pinnacle of justice either but seriously, I don't think it's that important - the person who seemed to care about it the most is ShotCoder himself, I doubt many others care at all really lol. Maybe krndandaman a little bit because of their recent altercation hahaha xD.
I DO want to brag and say that I have like 100+ replays on repdepot and some of them have been downloaded like 30 times! I'm famous, let me smurf next time! A/S/L BBY?!

You entirely missed the point, there are 50, perhaps 100, or maybe 1000 people who have ONE issue with an event, if you all voice them, you all say "OH Stupid organization, why you do stuff like this"... How does Brood War survive? Why would an organizer go through that abuse. I defend Shimy because I know how it is to have 5-20 people complain about 10-50 different things every week while you're running a league and if you change to adapt to one of these, you have 5-10 other people who rise up and want to tell you what to do without doing any work for it. And in the end, it all boils down to "that's a stupid proceedure" "stupid decision" "stupid organizer". I mean, look at the first post, you took the most offensive route possible.
On April 13 2012 03:15 Kiante wrote: but at the same time you denied other people the right to smurf? lol.
Mocking the organization straight out of the gate... How does this ever help anyone? Oh, if I tell you you're an idiot often enough, you'll become smart. Now look at that logically and see if it makes any sense to you. We're all people here, we all do stuff that's controversial, everyone makes mistakes and everyone makes correct decisions that many think are mistakes.
This is the last thing I have to say because you're either not reading or are incapable of processing the underlying message. You're not helping anyone. You act as though the internet isn't the real world, well news flash... It is. Sure, you can say more things, you can do shit without getting nailed for it, but at the end of the day, if you're trying to make a suggestion and open with an insult, people are going to be like... Get the fuck out of my face.
I'm mocking the decision not the organisation. I'm still yet to see a reasonable explanation for why a smurf was provided for noise and not jealous considering the parrallels in their situation. Nothing gets improved if everyone just sits back and lets bad things happen. I'd like to think i am helping someone, someone being people in future tournaments, where hopefully the rules about when and how smurfs are provided are clarified and made more equitable for all participants, and not just people pony-ing up the cash.
edit: adding some bold underlined text for emphasis

Nah, Kiante's problem is that he doesn't give a fuck about foreign BW, so he's trolling a newly coming organization with no regret when he should really just be ashamed of himself.

Honestly I see where you are coming from and agree somewhat, but I don't need you fighting for me or using me as an example because I have no desire to be a martyr or anything... I think you overstate the parallels because I am a scrub and no one needs to see my reps to beat me really xD

Alright then would this be an issue if Kororo, fold, or S2glow smurfed? That's where I'm getting at. you have an ulterior motive that isn't attacking the decision. I mean I guess we could all be strawmen but then who would actually get things done? The guy streaming Gem...ohwait.

also the "nobody else has raised it therefore we shouldn't give a shit" is a terrible argument. you may promote apathy to poor decisions but why is that a good thing?

Oh come on dude, you're not fooling anyone, you've openly admitted to trolling and it's blatantly obvious at this point
Bold text to add emphasis ^ How is this not trolling.
Let's be realistic here, you're trolling with no caring about what impact it has on the thread, the event or foreign BW. You know nothing can happen to you because you're a writer for TL and you're hidden behind your computer with miles between you and the next guy. Your trolling was good, you had me up to a couple posts ago, but it's irrelevant because fact is, regardless if you were trolling or not, you were being detrimental to this event and betraying the foreign BW community with your bashing and/or trolling of the organization and it's decisions.
you're the one throwing the bold in directly attacking my intentions. how is that trolling, i'm just pointing out how dumb your own bold text looks. how is trying to improve bw tournament organisation detrimental?
also nothing can happen? i'm sure harem would be happy to ban me if i was actually trolling...but if you step back and actually read what i'm saying instead of getting hyper defensive, you'd realise i'm simply raising a valid point about how this ladder has been run and you could consider fixing or standardising how it works in future events instead of assuming i'm just trying to troll you for a reaction or something...

see eywa this post is a good example of trolling.
mis-interpreting a word to imply that tournaments should be racially segregated = trolling.
suggesting that tournaments dont have double standards in relation to who is awarded a smurf account = a real issue

I thought this whole thing was put to rest lol Anyway, I attempted to take in what everyone has had to say and have come up with this.
Kiante, I really respect you and appreciate you for what you do in the BW scene. I disagree how you feel it's an advantage for NoisE to play on a smurf and I fail to see how that is a loss of integrity on my part. I do, however, appreciate your interest in my tournament and hope that this fiasco has not made you turn up your nose to it.
If you wish to question or discuss the matter more, I feel like it's a better choice to directly message me for detailed reasons. If I reply to your question in a way that doesn't satisfy you, then I only see it just to be brought up in a public area such as this. Thank you.
To everyone else: Since people don't see the reason for the smurf, I expect you all not to dodge. I have directly seen dodging and have made note of it. You know who you are. Also, I appreciate Eywa and Game replying and arguing my case, but this is something that Kiante has with me. So if it ever has to do with organization, I ask that you tell the person to PM me or email me
Now that this is all out of the way, let's get to serious matters: Dsyxelic took the #1 spot on the ladder! Congratz to him! Also, there are now 14 people who are yellow ranks on the ladder! This is awesome! One thing I was hoping to experience in this ladder is the ranking system when only playing against your fellow yellow ranks. I am very pleased to see 37-35 records and 44-29 records. A lot of people forget that they are playing people that they would normally dodge until they get C ranks. The cool thing is that you are forced to play people that you have an equal skill level with and you should not not be discouraged to go on losing streaks or anything like that. Jealous is someone who I envy a lot. He is able to lose some games, bounce back, and win some games. He never gets discouraged because he knows who he's actually playing against - the best yellow ranks. He's not using this tourney as a proving ground, but an improving ground. He's definitely a better player because of it and I respect him because of it :D
Anyway, good luck to you all and let's just leave the smurf thing to PM's! Thanks! Have a wonderful afternoon
JK, thanks Shimy xD I beat Wands today! Even though I lost the next game against him and then 3 more against others, it's a win like that once in a while that keeps me going ^^ Even getting a really close match that I may screw up (like vs. zimp or fold) counts. I second the notion that no one should just give up - everyone should play to get better, not necessarily win (the ladder stage)!

I have nothing against you nina, but this was a blatant attack on Me by Harem and Kiante on Shimy. It wasn't an issue until they decided to make it one. So I don't understand why 2-3 people are so butt hurt about it. Especially one person who has little to no connection to the Foreign Scene and one who has essentially given up on the ladder.
I'm sorry but what the fuck are you on about noise? At what part was harem involved in this at all? rofl. Moreover, how was this a personal attack on you? I raised a criticism of how the issue was handled and you freak out instead of growing up and simply responding to the criticisms. you and eywa both have shown such immaturity in dealing with this issue that it really just boggles my mind.
btw who is the "little to no connection to the foreign scene" and who "has essentially given up on the ladder"
i honestly dont know how you're trying to bash me at this point, but you're taking what should be a pretty simple case of "well add more rules/transparency into smurfing in the future" into some kind of personal vendetta that literally doesn't exist.

What the fuck is your problem? You say I'm bashing you when I never once said a negative word about you. I see that pen next to your name has given you more balls than you deserve. Maybe you should go read what I said, see who banned me, and see who has trolled me about BM in the past and maybe you'll see the connections in my post rather than shitting on mine and Eywa's names. Idk about me but I know Eywa has done much more for this community than you can even claim to and yet you bash him why? Because he stands by Shimy's decision? Because he provides and you sit there and shit on people? Dude you're a fucking troll and need to learn when to shut the fuck up. I don't know what your motives are but at this point it's blatantly obvious it's NOT the "add more rules/transparency into smurfing in the future".
At this point I'm going to ask we move this to PM or I'm going to end up getting perm banned.
Lol? You accused me of a blatant attack on you. that's entirely false. This has nothing to do with my pen and your silly insults based upon it are completely baseless. You got banned because YOU"RE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ALT ACCOUNTS ON TL. I dont know if you read the rules when you signed up the first time but it's not hard to understand. you made an alt account, you trolled the thread, then you got figured out and banned. why is it even relevant that harem did it?
I'm not bashing eywa, i'm not bashing you. I was raising a concern over smurfing happening in a tournament, and moreover that there were decisions made about who could smurf, without rules being specified in the thread, and with most people in the ladder not even knowing that there were smurfs to compete with. I pm'd shimy the concerns i raised in this thread and he agreed with me in terms of greater transparency so honestly, that was my only concern in this thread. you're the one who's taken to personal attacks on me, insulting me based on practically nothing, as i simply tried to speak up for the people playing in your tournament. Holy moly batman, the world isn't out to get you.

But seriously, I understand where you're coming from. When I was on the iccup team, I had to put up with this crap almost every day for no reason. So I don't understand why 2-3 people are so butt hurt about it. Especially one person who has little to no connection to the Foreign Scene and one who has essentially given up on the ladder.

Personally, when someone said you were Chocolate I was like "Say whaaaa?" but not much more than that. But yeah, since Kiante is not involved in this venture personally, I don't see why he felt the need to keep posting to get the last word in.
Holy shit, do we finally agree on something? o.o When's the last time that's happened?
It's a sign of the end times. Dec 22nd, 2012 - mark your calendars!

Not trolling: this is probably the reason you are C rank.
probably just one of many reasons. im too lazy to use more than 1 hotkey for units, Fkeys, was super inactive, don't prepare for matches at all except for deciding on a basic build, etc. its pretty much all laziness lol.
I improved 1 rank every 1-2 seasons with pretty much all 3 races since I started iccup 2 years ago until 6 months ago when I became inactive. i have a pretty good idea of why i lose games so i dont feel a dire need to watch my reps
edit: heck i didnt even know drone triggers or whatchamacallit until lumire told me about it yesterday lol and i dont know actual build orders/timings :p
Lumire, you're explaining drone triggers to dsyxelic but won't even show me a replay? v_v

And top 3 on ladder atm are americans
edit: wait getting a b- in this ladder stage would be contradictory wouldn't it? b- not allowed, but if you achieve b-.. you're b- lol
Well since were all C rank players and you earn more points then you lose for winning until B- theoretically all the c+ players should be b- provided they play enough.
And 4 out of top 5 right now are all americans. ^^

The blows were low. The insults were... kind of weird. The Terran versus Protoss rivalry was adding fuel to the flames of dislike and animosity between two men from opposite sides of the planet, destined to fight in one final battle to determine the fate of the ASL thread. When will this epic battle begin? No one knows just yet - it's kind of Frieza-saga status at the moment, but the stand-off will soon end, and there will be a battle so fierce that it will knock your socks off and then knock them back on again. Although the American Terrican, Noise, and the Australian Protoss-alien, Kiante, and myself were all part of TL-TyranT's glorious and legendary clan, The Battle Scarred Gamers, words were said that cannot be un-said. Now is the time for resolution. Now is the time for battle.
My prediction for how fierce this battle is going to be:

I'm looking now.
what's so funny about it?, I thought it was worth a shot because it's not like it would be insensible to change those maps; rather, it would be only be logical. I'm pretty sure that there would be a higher quality games (especially in the finals) if maps that were already used in the previous rounds were used again because by then the players would have had significant practice on said maps rather than try to cram practice on a map they haven't played/practiced on in a while let alone ever play it. More enjoyable for both players and spectators. Or if you're going to put a map like gladiator which not many people know, have it used in several rounds so that we don't spend time practicing on it and be 'one and done' with it.
but im not looking to keep mulling over this as my opinion does not mean the maps change. im just curious as to why you thought the request was so ridiculous that it would make you laugh. its totally logical.
tl;dr im not questioning the map selection, im questioning the map frequency
I didn't mean to come off as laughing at you. I just get the question asked a lot and I don't see the need for my explanation on maps or frequency of them. I encourage you to organize your own tournament though and use whatever maps you choose and use them as frequently as you like. There is absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so
I'd like to address my statements concerning maps and my actions against Dsyxelic that went down yesterday.
First and foremost, I'd like to give my sincerest apologies to Dsyxelic for the way I responded to him. I realize that those were in no way helpful or constructive answers. I feel that I treated your with disrespect and I ask your forgiveness. My previous actions were due to a build up of stress I received from multiple parties questioning my judgement concerning the maps. Secondly, allow me to explain myself concerning my choices for maps:
There is 1 map in the finals that differentiate from the rest of the tournament. I made my decision based on map balance, activity, and quality. If players cannot in one week learn one map for the finals of a prized tournament, they do not deserve to win a tournament of such high standards. Yes, this is for C ranks, that could be an argument. Let's address that. C ranks, a starleague, who would've thought it? The whole point of this league is to improve the yellow ranks and possibly move some into the lower blue ranks, and adding map knowledge and how to play on particular maps in specific scenarios is part of a higher level of gaming. Why shouldn't all maps be repeated over and over? Because we've already seen what people can do on those maps. That defeats the purpose of a STARleague. The finals of a major league should not be repetitive in any sense, especially in map presence, maybe map concept, but not exact repetition. The finals are the best players, you don't have to worry about good games. Point is, you did not think out the aspects of the level of the tournament you were speaking about, but I deeply appreciate your concern.

The last two days I haven't been able to find any games when I've played. When are you other europeans active? Heading over to NYC on business and pleasure the 27.4 to 01.05, might cause some trouble if i would qualify since the first groups are played then - didn't think of that when I signed up.
Due to some lag complications, the winner of the ASL Ladder Tour #6 is.... ProfProtoss
Congratulations to him and the rest of the tour participants! Coming from D- at the beginning of the tournament, ProfProtoss has managed to battle his way back to spot #32 giving him a real shot at qualifying! Best of luck.
Also, Ladder Tour #7 will begin at 9PM EST! Sign ups can be found here. Please do not forget to check in or else the tournament automatically creates a bracket without you in it leaving yourself out of the tour and a shot at some pts ^^
At this level of play, there's no such thing as a rock paper scissors match up. Any BO can be overcome by pure skill differential.
so what is rock what is paper what is scissors? i agree with eywa. i use 9p and i died against 12p , i win against 12p sometimes. i 12p sometimes i win against 12h .

I regretfully have to announce an error on my part.
Doing email confirmations, I slipped up and let an account iGotRedEyes into the tournament without doing further research. Thanks to ASL)Zeran, I have found out that the IP of ASL.RedEyez matches the very same IP and last login IP of Nb.Favorite. Nb.Favorite, as you may or may not know, is way above the C+ level.
I am angry at him for trying to smurf into this StarLeague that was meant to be fair and equal for yellow ranks, but I am more angry with myself for letting this happen. I should have caught it and the only one to blame is myself. I give you all my sincerest apologies and ask that you would please forgive me. This should have never happened.
He is kicked off the ASL team and banned from any future tournaments of mine. No one is permitted to play the account ASL.RedEyez. I ask that you please make this known if I am not online.

I'm not really angry at the fact someone decided to smurf in this tour. I'm more upset with the fact people outside of Nb.Favorite knew that this was going on and refused to step in and tell either myself or one of the organizers...it's really disheartening.

What will be done about the points lost/gained due to his participation? I think it's only fair that people who have lost vs him have their points refunded in the final tally. The question arises whether or not wins should count or be removed, to which I can't find a clear answer - refunding losses makes perfect sense to me, but winning vs. a player who is above the tournament caliber shouldn't be punished imo, but this creates an inconsistency in ruling since he shouldn't have been in it in the first place... Either way, I'm interested in how this will be handled from a 3rd party perspective (I didn't play any games against him).

Ideally any player should've lost only few points against Favorite so far in comparison with the total points won/lost after the ladder stage. Besides, only a few ranks matter, it doesn't matter if one player is #50 or #54, it will not affect the event as a whole. It's only important for those players that are close to qualifying, but failed to do so because of a handful of points. It'd be prolly the smartest decision to wait until the ladder is officially over and check only those problematic rankings and add the points again I guess.

The point differences that occured are pretty negligeable and there is no real way for me to replace them.

Dude, guys, I beated Favorite in clanleague as well. He said he is playing while laying on his couch, who knows if we can trust him. He hit A-, but now he is like B- so yeah. Point is, he still shouldn't be allowed to play here so shame on him =).
sir i challenge you to a duel *slaps wallace in face with leather glove*
this saturday winner takes all, Superior Canadian Gentlemen's Club leader vs Sexy Bulgarians Club leader. best out of 11. settle the score for the ages in deciding the superior club of ASL. lets do this!
By the way wallace you forgot to mention that we have conflicting timezones so i almost never see you online and that im 1-0 vs you already on ASL ladder and crtl.
And i guess favorite was playing bad on purpose or something to try to sell it.

Since, I won a game against Prof.Protoss and he won a game against me, and in turn he beat nb.favorite, I should also be disqualified as well as anyone who beat me or prof.protoss.

It's really depressing how many people seem to just stop playing... I think I definitely could have qualified if everyone was active, but now I only see the upper ranked people online and I get curbsmash u_u Oh well! Better to get unlimited curbsmash now than in the real tourney I guess xD

EDIT: Also dodging on the rise =__________=;
You should start the revolution of the lower ranks coming back! You could try PM'ing people and setting up times to play. There's 3 days remaining!!!
Whenever I log on, I barely see anyone online and seeing as it is hard for me to ladder during the week because of work and the fact that the ladder tours are either 3pm EST or 9pm est, then its hard for me to get games. I'll do my best to get games on Friday night or Saturday.
Yaqoob. I've been going through a slump lately so I've been dodging BW all together. I'll be on in the next couple days when I feel comfortable again. Just one of those tough times I'm working through. Plus the fact I've been more mentally focused on ISL 3 than this has gotten me to the point I"m more accepting to just making groups than placing in the top.
Edit: Sorry friends and I went drinking so I've been a bit more honest than I should have hahahaha

I never had him either and am glad that he is out of all the tournaments. From what I have seen his play was very suspicious sometime and like game said if he was a hacker before I don't really find a reason he wouldn't be hacking now.
1) After talking to iCCup.Flawless, the account ASL.RedEyez has been locked and each and every game (and the points) are in the process of being deleted. This means that anyone who has played him and lost to him, you should be getting your points back.
2) Congratulations to PluS for getting C+ on the ASL ladder! He has battled through some games and finally gotten that PluS ;P
3) The ladder ends in less than 72 hours! At 13:00 CET on April 22nd, you will know who has qualified and who hasn't for the ASL Group stages! Be sure to play as many games as possible in these next hours so that you can get those top 6 spots! Good luck to everyone of you.
After dropping a lot of games in the past two days due to playing bad, being tired and drunk (it's finals time, yo) I realize that I am getting worse again and am not contributing good games or improving or have a chance at qualification xD GGs everyone, good luck in the rest of the tournament.
Thanks to all opponents, sorry for raging at times u_u Need to control emotions better, even if I am under the influence ^^ NEW GOAL... Whenever I play BW again...
I'll play anyone in a MOTW BO5 no matter the rank. If you are searching for an opponent and need a chance to earn some points, msg me. (Terran, but I play with the other races too)
Coming up to the end of the ladder, I'll be needing rep packs of each player who has laddered regardless if they have qualified.
Send the pack to: NoisEASL@gmail.com
I need you to send a .rar file of every single game you have played during the ASL ladder and I need the title of the email to read "[Your name]'s ASL Replay Pack".

I'm genuinely miserable that I haven't had time to be a proper competitor this group stage. I mean really, I'm gutted. I hope like crazy that there is another one of these before my summer holiday ends, so I can tear it up like crazy.

Also, I'll be playing the whole day today. Then I'll probably sleep for a bit, and play till the end tomorrow, or until I think I've qualified.

It is a nice tournament, woud be better if mine girlfrend was not here during ladder time xD more time to be top 6 and less stress for last days. I was sure that more people woud had played last night, now the limit is 3100 i belive many players can still snipe in.
There is justs 2-3 players who tried hard and was unable tu qualify, congratulations to them anyway, i woud have expected more activity from low c- players with mass games and negative stats but to push in top 28
SS of the ladder have been taken, 10 minutes ago, if your games didn't appear on there, it's because they finished too late. Though the ladder stage is complete, the standings are NOT final. There are still potentially many unsorted complaints to be finished up.
If you have any outstanding complaints that have not yet been resolved by the iCCup team, you must send them to me asap on Teamliquid (through repdepot preferably). - These must be sent in Today.
Otherwise, congratulations to:
Invites Dsyxelic Lumire S2Glow WandS - Top ladder player, fills for SnipinPanda
Top 6 get to pick their groups, so I would ask WandS, Dsyxelic, PluS, AleC, RuSh and Hollow to get in contact with either myself or Shimy on a fairly convenient platform. i.e. Skype, MSN.
Please note, this is subject to change due to possible disqualifications and ladder reports.
Regards,
Eywa-
P.S. REMAINDER of the tournament will be played on FISH SERVER. Please familiarize yourself with the launchers, use either Chaos Launcher or Mini, if you would like, testing it with either myself or Shimy before hand could save you from disqualification if you can't get it working on the day of.
Questions will be answered within two hours (today only). Feel free to post!

Many people were wondering just what happened to Vasek, there was much speculation and rumors. Anyhow, Vasek cleared his own stats when he realized that he was not able to participate in group stage due to work related reasons.

You pick your own group and then you get the last say by switching 2 pairs of players around, none of which can be yourself.
Firstly, I want to congratulate all of the ladder qualifiers. You played thousands of games over these 16 days and proved your talents by earning your qualification spot. I applaud your dedication and hard work!

We're waiting for potential final touch ups in case there were outstanding reports for match lists. iCCup crew's inability to complete them on time due to potential tardiness by either the iCCup crew or the player submission shouldn't affect the results as long as the games were played before the deadline, they will be counted. Only 2 complaints have come in thus far, none of them have had an impact on the standing.
Then we need to do group selections. So, as I said previously, Monday or Tuesday.
It said in the front page that the top 28 players of the ladder will be qualifed. But in total there is 32 players. Since 4 of them already qualifed also took part in the qualification. Having this in mind I didnt think they would actually take part in the qualification. Why does qualifed players take place in a qualification? I dont get it.
When I first read this I especially put this on my mind "28 players of the Ladder will qualify for the group play." You didnt mention that the 4 premature qualifed players would also play in the qualification. this would lead one to think that these players would attend at the group play not in the ladder stage.
So I thought all this time that the top 28 players would qualify not having in mind the 4 premature qualifed players were in it. I was in the qualification span (#31) yesterday and I tried my best to end up atleast top 28, when in truth I might not would had to try, seeing as all the 32 players are already in it. But Instead I lose alot of games, chasing a ghost. It wouldn't had made a huge diffrence if I made it anyway since I would probably die in the group stage. But right should be right. The information was a bit unclear and misleading. Sure I could have looked closer to notice they were actually taking part in this tour.
Now I need to admit I have ADD, among one of the symptoms is I can have a hard time precive information unless it's pretty clear. I'd just wished u could have been clearer about this and explain this better for instance "the top 28 players will qualify of the ladder, including the 4 invites players so that means u need to end up atleast at #32 to be able to qualify for the group stage"
I hope u understand what im saying.
I also want to thank everyone who was inovled in this tour in one or another way. I've increased my knowledge. Thanks!

actually, it was pretty clear imo and right now you're using hindsight bias seeing how you would've had no idea whether someone would rise in ranks past you or not while you sit at #31 (you're on the border of qualification). for example, I gained around 1000 points yesterday and MarkM gained around 800 points in the span of like 2-3 hours. you have no idea what can happen.
its unfortunate that there was a misunderstanding, but i think the staff did its job to convey the rules to us

him playing Z is absolutly nothing as dsaqwe can kick asses with z too, he is B- z with no problems XD what can be done is take 1 replay and look hotkeys, dsaqwe was playing sas invitational this period while quirinus asl you you have fresh reps of bouth.
Also quirinus are here from many ages and dsaqwe is strong enought, they really dont need all of this. If administrators have allowed him in there MAYBE is a reason...

Why do you care all of a sudden? Just curious. You seem to be posting in this thread a lot and I've seen you in op ASL a few times. I don't know why you demand certain things.
Haha this is fun. Thanks to Mewka, Lumire, dsaqwe and ajmbek for defending me, and a special thanks to zimp for checking my/dsaqwe's hotkeys to solve this mess.
So, two C rank leagues accept me in. I even said in advance to the administrators of this league that I have a B from dsaqwe in one season that he played on my account. Also, it was already answered in the team chat. This is almost borderline insulting the admins.
If you check all my accounts I have another B- from dsaqwe on some other account where he transfered the stats at the end of the season "just for teh lulz" so some people would think I'm B- (in retrospective, that is stupid now XD). I never reached even B-, actually if you look at all my accounts I think you wouldn't even find one where there is a C+ rank. Some of my matchups/understanding may have been at B- rank skill level, but never my whole account/skill. On good days I can defeat some higher ranks a few times, but that's besides the point. There are like 23452345353 seasons of me being in the C ranks on like 345345345 accounts before and after that, so your argument that I'm B seems kinda inconclusive and invalid.
As people said, I'm currently TvZ, ZvT and ZvP, but I can get to at least C with all matchups, without much trouble as I played all races for a while, back in the day; I still offrace from time to time, just for fun. If you want to check replays/hotkeys I can provide any matchup, old and new reps; my hotkeys are mostly the same for the last 5 years. If you need dsaqwe's reps for hotkeys he can also provide them. Well, he already did, zimp checked those 3 replays that prove that dsaqwe played on that account (luckily he saved them). The builds/execution/decision making that me and dsaqwe use are different too.
If I was B I'd rape everyone in the league with like 90% winrate - well not that it counts, since that B rank is from some seasons ago.
And at the end, stop intentionally miss-spelling my name to insult me. If you believe in ancient roman gods, you just insulted a god of war, creator of Rome, that stabbed his own brother to death for insulting him - not a good thing to do.
edit: Also, unlike you (I believe I'm right), I actually contributed something to the community, and some people know me, so I think my words hold more weight than yours.
