Hwasin < Flash Sea < Free Midas > Jangbi great < Movie
**predictions may not reflect reality
Hwasin doesn't win meaningful games, and he has the misfortune over being paired with that one terran that wins a lot of games or whatever. Sea vs Free is a toss up in my mind, though most of TL will root for Sea and he could very well tap into that positive energy. Oh yes. I don't know what to say about Midas vs Jangbi. Midas is on the upswing, and suddenly Jangbi is much better at PvZ than PvT recently, but Midas isn't too hot vs protoss these days, so who knows? Great is actually becoming pretty solid in his play. However, I fully respect Movie's PvZ and expect him to take down the first game and eventually the series.
Some great games in store tonight. Especially can't wait for Sea vs Free and Midas Vs Jangbi. In both of those games, one oldie is guaranteed to be in the Ro8 of this MSL :D
Other than Flash, these matches are pretty hard to call...most of the players are playing their strong matchups, all are >50% in the matchup they'll be playing, and many are >60%.
I like the leapfrogging drops on match point, so strong. First siege a bunch of tanks on the low-ground nat abuse area. Then ferry a few tanks over the cliff. Then ferry the rest over.
Hwasin casually puts on his jacket in the waiting area. Doesn't look too disappointed. But I guess if he was a realist he didn't come into the match thinking he'd win.
Oh btw, commentators were talking about Hwasin's Ro16 failures due to him meeting the best players of that time, or taekbangleesang. This time around? No exceptions.

Hwasin hasn't been too lucky in his career. However, to win starleagues you eventually have to beat the best players of your era and he simply can't do it. With a bit more luck he would have made some more RO8, RO4 maybe
Paranoid Flash fans... wait till he loses more than 2 games in a row, or gets eliminated from a league, THEN you can start posting nonsense.
Besides, players will eventually start catching up. In happens with all great players. Then he'll have to re-reinvent terran and we'll go through this all over again.

But I just think that three months ago Flash was uber happy about every single win. Now he's like "gg, have to go practice again".
This is how the first burnout started early 2009.
his first burnout was from just doing the same thing he'd been doing, assuming his 14cc system would work forever. When it stopped working, he had to keep playing tons of games and didn't have the time to figure out what was wrong. After an offseason, he rethought his game, came back refreshed and with a desire to put up new strategies and started winning again.

Yeah well, I was expecting more from the game and was dissapointed. Flashs mistakes happened as he already was miles ahead (minus the early vulture loss), so it was of course no big deal. Hwasins play was just bad all around. He dealt very badly with Flashs opening, even after scouting it. It really took no genius to hunt down those uncloaked wraiths which had nowhere to go.

hmm, free's interest in teching seems to have limited the amount of follow-up pressure he could generate, particularly in denying sea's third. I wonder if he created a significant enough timing opening for arbiters to be just as effective.

The booths are slightly angeled towards the people. The shade (wall with sponsor commercial) is always there. The wall, thus is also angeled slightly towards the crowd and the big screen can thus not be seen. Every broadcasted game, PL or starleague, uses this kind of booths. The players can never see the screen.

I don't know, maybe the commentators are placed in an angel they can see. The booths are constructed in a way that make it impossible for the players to watch the big screen. Think about it, it's a big business. Lot's of money involved. This is an easy matter, don't you think they have thought about this before or that other players would complain if what you say is true.
Trust me, they cannot see the screen. It wouldn't work if they could.

It doesn't make any sense. He wasn't just good at this matchup - at his peak he was probably the best PvT player ever. He looked unstoppable in this matchup.
I don't think the matchup changed that much either. It's not like TvP or ZvT or PvZ which are more "unstable" (harder to maintain dominance in). PvT is a staple matchup for P and for the best PvT player ever to fall this much without a huge metagame shift baffles me to this day.

Is it just him though? Stork has also been losing to terrans lately and there really aren't that many PvT specialists left from what I can tell. Maybe Kal or Free would be considered best in this matchuop now?
I almost always root for Terran in TvP but at least Jangbi used to abuse the matchup the right way - seemed like he used to do every abusive thing in the matchup exactly right and you had to give him credit for that.

Well, he wasn't doing great around the time that protoss players sacrificing unit count for the arb tech became mainstream and used every game. Jangbi's style really flourished with large army battles and storming well. His macro and storm micro was what made him so strong pvt. He was also aggressive and the fast arb style of play is more passive.
What I mean to say that there was a meta game switch. It wasn't a sudden thing like the Flash build but it did happen. Jangbi was owning around the time that arbs were becoming the staple late game unit instead of carriers (due to the flash build) but still weren't rushed every single game on two base like now. They were teched towards more around the time your 3rd base was up and running and around the time you started adding mass gates. now it's tech towards arbiter around the time you're starting your natural half the time and the other half is soon after.
Expand a bunch but don't delay terran push and let him position directly outside your nat is pretty gg. He had a shot if he delayed more but oh well. Can't say this was unexpected.

According to terran players the only thing protoss ever do is chees or are being lame ass so
Some Protoss players show actual skill in several areas of the game, and most of them actually only cheese every now and then. Movie does gay shit literally every single PvT, and he has a really bad record so he's obviously not even good at that either.

Just the general increase in skill, I think. Two years ago, or maybe as late as one year ago, a player could stand out by being slightly better than everyone else at one thing (say, using storms effectively in PvT). These days all decent players are so good at everything that it takes much more to win consistently even in one matchup. The recent terran surge doesn't help JangBi either. Given the circumstances, I don't think he's doing that poorly.
Just watched Movie vs Great and I expected this, I knew Great studied Movie's PvZ. I don't know how Movie was suppose to counter that built, maybe more dragoons? Movie definitely needed to make more cannons in his main and an observer in front of his natural.
Terrans love to bitch about how they get all the "gay shit" done to them as they keep on rolling over zergs. Whatever, I agree, movie sucks so much he is in the round of 8 in both leagues cause he really sucks.
Also, I remember arguing with someone how Kal is no way the undisputed best protoss right now. Hope this frees your stubbornness cause Kal just got snowed in.
What happened to JangBi? His PvZ used to be by far his weakest matchup around 50% now his PvZ is pretty much his strongest while the reverse has happened to his PvT. Did he just stop practicing PvT in favour of PvZ?
I think Jangbi said in an interview recently that PvZ is now a more fun matchup for him to play than PvT, but I dunno if that happened as a result of his PvT getting worse or not.

This made me look at Jangbi's stat's since the start of 2010. He is 4-8 (33.3%) in PvT and 8-2 (80%-holy crap) in PvZ. Admittedly the list of terrans he has played is much more impressive than the list of zergs but still, that is really a big shift from the guy who used to have the best PvT in the world.

I think I read an interview somewhere in which Jangbi talked about his recent success in PvZ. He said that he simply enjoyed playing PvZ more, and that the matchup and its dynamics were much more appealing to him now. He also noted that he felt the opposite way before; he loved PvT and found PvZ boring or confusing.
This is probably why Jangbi is in such a PvT slump. However, being a huge Jangbi fan from the beginning, I must say I kind of like that he is getting so good at the PvZ matchup, especially since he has been demonstrating solid PvP as well (his game vs Horang2 tonight was a must watch). I feel like he is mastering, or at least gaining a deep understanding of a match up that is currently very hard for Protoss. However, I also hope / believe that Jangbi will regain his PvT magic (and really, some of his old PvT games were pure magic) and put it all together, and then maybe he can make a run at winning a starleague.
Of course...this is if he can do this before SC2 takes over the scene...
