Australia/New Zealand Weekly Tourneys
With the regular iCCup tournaments run by kiwi StarCraft community starcraft.co.nz and the recent influx of activity in Aussie players on teamaus.org and iccup.com we thought it would be a good idea for a bit of fun to extend the scope of the StarCraft NZ Tournaments to include Australian players to flesh out the participation. While previously tourneys pulled regulars from a strong but relatively small player pool with some success, the addition of Australian players will bring a new dynamic to tournaments – hopefully establishing friendships between fellow StarCraft players and igniting some rivalries to produce quality games.
With the increased player base by combining Aussie and Kiwi communities the frequency and hopefully competitiveness of the tournaments is improved, and hopefully it will pave the way for future exhibition matches or Country vs. Country showmatches with enough interest shown!
The eighth tournament will be held on Sunday the 14th of March. Check-in time will be 60 minutes (so tourney will start whenever we have 32 players - first in get in!). See below for times. The maps used this week will be Destination in round 1 [BO3], Fighting Spirit in round 2 [BO3], Match Point in round 3 [BO3], Moon Glaive in the semi-finals [BO5] and Heartbreak Ridge [BO5] in the Final. These maps are only used for the first game and then loser picks. I will be the co-host along with Tournament administrator iCCup.HotDog.
This will be the last tournament that I will host as part of the iCCup crew, and I am undecided about continuing them (someone else can pick it up if they want).
Time:
NZ 9:00PM Sunday 14th March. (NZST) ACT 7:00PM Sunday 14th March. (AEDT) NSW 7:00PM Sunday 14th March. (AEDT) NT 5:30PM Sunday 14th March. (ACST) QLD 6:00PM Sunday 14th March. I was thinking of an Ashes Tourney when the cricket was on and have a big Aus v GB tourney but it would just be too hard to set a good time and the ping would be outrageous, plus I couldn't think of a good prize.
Could have been done with a home/away set (once at like 6pm CET and once at 6pm AEST) but how would it be decided :/

I signed up, should be good, n_n.
I was wondering, are we playing for pts or for the lulz? and what channel do we go to before hand? thanks!
|
Good stuff, del! These should be lots of fun :3
|
What kind of bogus rule is this?
Random is allowed on opponent's consent.
Good initiative though.

|
|
hmm, bit of a dingo fest atm. i'm gona go fishing for some kiwis.
|
Random and race picking is allowed to keep the atmosphere from being too serious n_n Hopefully in Aussie v kiwi matches there will be some friendly banter and we can keep some of the best quotes - nothing really BM of course or you are breaking iCCup rules.
More kiwis need to sign up!

I'm getting an error on the iccup tourney page, is this thing still on?
|
Yeah the Tourney disappeared. I think I remember this happening at the Aus National Tourney or some other tourney but it came back that time so I dunno what happened. Will ask someone see if they know anything about it.

It was on the tourny page before... AusvNZ or AusvsNZ. Can't remember which

channel? kk variance tries

|

so is it still a go or is it cancelled?

I can no longer go into this tournament and can't find it on iccup.com to leave the tournament.

Pitty I missed it! Will try make next one.

Next one will be in 2 weeks, or at least I will only make it every 2 weeks. Stroggos and Silver_NZ or any of you guys willing to run it can co-host with one of us if we can't make it and you might want to do it once a week even if the activity and enthusiasm is there!
Maybe next one will be on Saturday arvo.
If the problem happens again (the problem being the tournament disappearing from iCCup) it will be postponed by 30mins. No idea how to stop the glitch happening yet (I assume it wasn't an admin deleting it...).

eMrg)cheese aka cheeseball
From memory, on HBR, I overpooled and he went nexus -> forge. I managed to kill his single cannon and get 4 or 5 probes and kept one ling running around his base. Kept stopping his mining for few seconds here and there. Staying around long enough that I noticed there were no cannons so went 3 hatch muta. Picked off many probes (and his first templar as it spawned) and stopped a great deal of mining but didn't snipe nexus.
Ended up transitioning to 5 hatch hydra and overpowering his natural as he had minimal storms.
EDIT: Glad to see no battle royal after I lost on that piece of shit

At Otago uni, to use the internet you need to use their proxy and login, and starcraft can't work with a proxy (tried tunnelling etc) and med exams in less than a month which equals uber study.

Guess you can't sleep in on saturdays -_-.
|
You can - sometimes it will be on a Sunday so that's OK n_n I really need to get YA to fix the timezone conversion on iCCup cos it says AEST is +1 hr to what it really is and it's really confusing so please GO BY MY POSTS AND CET TIME!
Also, we are pushing to get the tournament thing changed so we can do things such as seed people into a certain round, get rid of free slots and rearrange the grid but it takes time to do and all the coders are busy so we will have to make do for now.
Final[PaiN] raised the point about Koreans living in Australia playing and whether they should be eligible. Any discussion on that? On one hand everyone should have a fair go and they are living in Aus but they are generally around B level in some cases and it means that Australian- and New-Zealand born players are going to find it tough to win a game that is for Aussies and kiwis.
Thoughts? Also, there are Koreans living here that are not B level should they play?
Cheers.
|
in my opinion let them play, they are not professionals.
i mean we wouldn't start kicking out aus/nz players who no one else can ever/rarely beat.

Yeah that is the view I took, plus it seems pretty dog to include someone because of race in a national tournament based solely on the nation you live in.
FINALS UPDATE! fadetowhite 1-1 iG.Savvy
Well played by both players, but fadetowhite has to go eat dinner with his parents or something so there is a 15min break and I have to go. Will update final results later.

Cmon Frugga, you can win!

Del, to make it fair, make a Aus-NZ tourney on NRL grand final day so you there isn't any bias.
|
The Aus National Tourney may run on the NRL GF day for the semis and finals if the players feel they are too tired.
|
Next Tournament The third tournament will be held this weekend on Sunday the 11th of October at 5:00PM AEDT/7:00PM NZDT (iCCup uses CET: 8:00AM on the same day). The maps used this week will be Outsider, and then loser picks.
PARTICIPATING To sign up you must sign up on the relevant iccup.com tournament page (LINK) and click Sign Up, or sign up directly with the link below:
Only residents of Australia and New Zealand are eligible to enter.

Can you generate the bracket soon?

Sorry about any confusion with saylight savings, I wrote the post in terms of AEDT which is daylight savings but I didn't really know which states follow it or not, so a couple from QLD and SA turned up an hour late.
Will make that clearer next time to remind states that are not using Daylight Savings time.
|
I'm the only one from SA T_T. Once again you are so selfish when making a very awesome tourney for no gain.

o_o Selfish I put down Daylight Savings time man! Open you eyes! xD
I am happy when anyone turns up (but I think no players are happy when GoD- turn up, we need a fadetowhite v GoD- showmatch!).

Updated the main post to be more aesthetically pleasing, I hope.
Definitely 'inspired' (one might say 'shamelessly inspired' ) by the recent revamps of the ProLeague threads, which I am a big fan of n_n. Check out the leaderboard, though!
Also the results are make more readable I hope but definitely nothing too fancy it's too time consuming - still an improvement hopefully.

Sweet Sweet Sweet OP. Also don't go off at me for being selfish, you make times you are certain YOU can make while others may be troubled by it (looking at the last tourney turnout, that is one) T_T

I don't even play in them o_o and this was at the same time as the first tourney which had a good turnout even after it got delayed. Also daylight savings screwed everyone outside of NSW and VIC
But yeah everyone TELL ME what times are best for you! I have no idea so I just make them at an arbitrary time on the weekend - I chose 5PM because in AUS that means we should be finished before dinner and also before we wanna go out drinking Saturday night. For the kiwis many of them said Sunday was best so that's where the 2nd tourney came in and may be why NZ had a strong turnout and good lineup (it was like their national team :D).
Anyway yeah, make requests for when the next one is host - remember people have exams for the next 1-1.5 months though.

I missed out on the tourney by 20 mins again, and like the other one i missed, i stopped what i was doing to try and make it but only just missed out T_T.
Good times for me would be..
Saturday Afternoon some/most saturdays: 1:00 -> 6:00PM my time (an hour and 30 minutes later than KST/TL time, so that would be 11:30AM -> 4:30PM TL time) Saturday Nights some times (Latest start would be 8:00, but NZ residents would need to be able to stay up a bit)
Sunday Afternoon (same as saturday times)
So pretty much i can play Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and it can be earlier than 5PM considering Nights > Afternoons :D.
|
Will probably make the next one early Sunday arvo, but when it is depends on how much I needa study and when I need to host the Dutch and possibly NZ national tours. Might make a table and convert the time into all Aus + NZ timezones, too. :D

Thanks for proving you do really need the timezone for you :D. Don't call me selfish .
Also, you should add polls to the OP
1st Poll: Weekends or Weekdays?
2nd Poll: Saturday or Sunday
3rd Poll: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday?
4th Poll: Best global time for you (using KST time compared to yours, since KST is close to all NZ/Aus) - 1pm-4pm, 5pm-8pm, 3pm-7pm etc.
|
I made polls on teamaus.org, OP will get too cluttered with more stuff - just PM me your preferred times.

Wow the Korean-Kiwis swept this tournament, with 3 out of four in the semi-finals being Korean-NZers from the aMd) clan.
Tournament 5 - ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/images/flags2/nz.png) aMd)AcE wins by walkover over ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/images/flags2/nz.png) DesTiNy[gm]
DesTiNy[gm] had to forfeit in the finals due to internet problems so aMd)AcE, after advancing when 0-1 down in the RO8 due to another opponent forfeiting, took a title for New Zealand!
The leaderboard changed, however, with fonger getting kicked out of the top 5 players by Pred_au.

Rofl, hard earned win, his hardest victory was over someone playing with 1 hand 2-1.
Congrats!

Yah he was 0-1 down in both games where the opponent has to withdraw :x

There won't be a tourney this weekend because I wanna save the timeslots for people to have a chance to meet up for the State of Origin tournaments, which should be a lot of fun.

I see you on starcraft.co.nz and in nO british clan etc. A few years ago I smurfed starcraft.co.nz as part of an ongoing joke with fonger (who was a clanmate at the time). Plan was to both hugely exaggerate and hype a rivallry between each other then play an epic public series for lulz with mind control and firebat drops and battle cruisers vs carriers and shit like that. At the time fonger and I were pretty well matched. But the NZ community was pretty cool and the UK community at the time sucked so I ended up getting drawn in. I came clean a few days after joining and nobody had a problem with me sticking around.
So I am a member of the NZ bw community but I have absolutely no geographical right to be a part of it. I'm only there because I want to be, they're cooler than the UK community. If any NZs object to my participation I do always respect that though.
