Coach Jo Jung Ook, "We will never lose at Gwanganri again" "We've learned from our pain from the last finals and will win this time"
On the 2nd at the Hero Loox center, Hwaseung defeated CJ to qualify for the finals.
Hwaseung’s coach Jo Jung Ook commented, “Because we’ve felt the pain of losing in the finals before, this time we will definitely win”, and continued “by practicing our hardest, I’ll focus on making sure our players show their full abilities”, revealing his thoughts on the finals.
The following is the interview with Coach Jo Jung Ook.
- It’s been 2 years since the last time you’ve been on the grand finals stage. ▲ Because it’s been 2 years since we’ve last stepped on that stage, the feeling is different. Having felt the pain of loss the first time we reached Gwanganri, this time we will prepare harder and show great results.
- It was close with CJ, reaching the super ace match. ▲ After we returned from vacation and began practicing, I thought it wouldn’t be possible to digest the maps for day 1 and 2 completely. Thankfully, Jaedong has shown great results in ace matches, so we believed if we just did well the first day, we would be able to reach the finals. Because the maps for day 2 depended a lot on scouting luck as well as the build used, we weren’t sure if we were going to win, but we were positive we would win the super ace match. However, going 0-4 on day 2 was a surprise. In the time we have left, I believe we will have to practice even harder for the finals.
- You’re facing SK Telecom in the finals – how would you assess them? ▲ SK Telecom is especially strong at Gwanganri, and they are a team that achieved the prestigious over-triple-crown. I'm sure both our team and SK Telecom believe this upcoming match holds great meaning. With the chemistry between T1’s coaching staff and players as well as their rich amount of ace players, I don’t believe they will be an easy team to beat at all.
- How do you plan on preparing for your match against SK Telecom? ▲ I will analyze individual players’ abilities and based on the records of each map, I will choose which players to send out. Just as we showed sniping of players on Day 1, once the roster entries are revealed, I’ll work hard so that the selected players will be able to optimally display their full abilities.
- Besides Jaedong, it seems the other players are in a slump. ▲ It’s something that’s been worrying me for a while. Yesterday the newer players did well so I thought the players who have been on losing streaks would work even harder but disappointingly, they lost. I believe each of these players will have a better understanding of this situation than I do, and I believe they will step up to show better performances in the next match. In the remaining time, I hope we can practice hard so that we can wage a proper battle and pull out all our hidden cards as well.
Jaedong, "At Gwanganri, I want to be able to win and smile with 100% joy" "I want to set records that no one else can beat"
Q: How do you feel after winning the final ace match? A: I had already thought a great deal about the final ace match when I arrived at the stadium today. Even if I won today, the team could still lose, so I thought a lot about the game on Neo Medusa and planned it out in my head. It's a relief that we won today, and I won't let my guard down until I can win with a smile on my face at Gwanganri!
Q: You lost your first game against Orion today - was it because you didn't have enough time to prepare? A: Not so. When I was preparing, I was confident about both games. Orion was able to exploit something I hadn't thought of at all during our mind games. Even as I was playing, I thought that I had lost the mind games completely. So I immediately started thinking about my next game, and practiced my micro without much pressure. I thought there was a high chance the next game would be a Zerg vs Zerg.
Q: Were you sure that EffOrt would play in the final ace match? A: Although there was a chance I might play against Terran, I was over 80% sure that EffOrt would be my opponent.
Q: How did you feel when it was confirmed that EffOrt was your opponent? A: I felt really good. I had already beaten him yesterday, and I had warmed up well during my game against Orion by practicing mutalisk micro. After the game on Neo Medusa started, I though the situation was excellent for me, and I felt that if I could win here, I would really have achieved something. I was calm, and I played the game to enjoy it.
Q: You are now ranked #1 in post season wins. A: Well, I'm tied for first, but I have some more opportunities ahead so I think it's very possible that I'll be alone at the top. Having this kind of record makes me quite proud, and I'd like to later hold a record that no one can challenge.
Q: Any final words? A: So many players helped me practice. great, oDin, and other Samsung Khan players helped me practice so much. Also, Estro and KT players helped me a lot as well, and I got a lot of help from WeMade players through 'simulation' practice (what does this mean?). A big thank you to all the guys who helped me!
LMAO. Orion was just UMS mutamicro practice!!!! hahaha.
Also,
Q: Were you sure that (Z)EffOrt would play in the final ace match? A: Although there was a chance I might play against Terran, I was over 80% sure that EffOrt would be my opponent.
Wow, what an amazing (and amazingly fast) translation; thank you guys so much! It's interesting to know how much the Samsung zerg helped out Jaedong (enemy of their enemy, I suppose).
...and I had warmed up well during my game against Orion by practicing mutalisk micro.
He doesn't think about the loss, he thinks about how it sharpens him for the next game.

Haha, that explains it a little bit more - why he played for so long against basically anything Orion threw at him after the game had been all but decided.
I SAID I WILL DO THIS TRANSLATION OMG ASDHASDASDASDA
ACK where??? I did it yesterday so I figured I'd do it today too T_T
HAJIME!
Nice translation . A question:
A: Not so. When I was preparing, I was confident about both games. Orion was able to exploit something I hadn't thought of at all during our mind games. Is "mind games" an accurate translation? Does he really consider ZvZ to be mind games and micro? O_O

essentially yes, a literal translation would be "mental battle." Though in every language, people use the same word with different ranges of meaning. But yes, it's mental rock-paper-scissor if you want to think about it that way.

Could someone explain what exactly the over-triple crown is?
SKY Proleague 2005 (and 2006) had two rounds. Each round had playoffs and finals, as well as a grand final, featuring the champions of both rounds. T1 won the Round 1 final T1 won the Round 2 final T1 couldn't exactly play vs T1 in the grand final, so I think they let the two runner-ups battle it out for the spot in the final (don't remember 100%), T1 won that grand final as well.
After that the balance slowly shifted to MBC being the strongest team, overall it was: PL 2005 R1 final: T1 > KTF PL 2005 R2 final: T1 > Samsung PL 2005 grand final: T1 > KTF PL 2006 R1 final: T1 > MBC PL 2006 R2 final: MBC > CJ PL 2006 grand final: MBC > T1

Jaedong has so much confidence, but he isnt cocky, I absolutely love it.
I really like his explanation for his Orion game as well. GG Oz, they are going to have a very tough fight ahead of them.

lol such is life. Hwaseung > CJ. An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep, so long as the army of sheep shows up for like one set out of two and there's some kind of super ace format to break ties. - Alexander the Great

I guess they put a game in certain position(i mean like the practice partner kills JD 2 drones or 1 drone and they paly from there) like special circunstances... XD
That tactics that orion used against Jaedong was actually used by JD himself on his last match against Savior: mass lings and attack as soon as the spire finishes, so that you overpower your opponent and rape his drones while the muta are in the eggs.
