This was just emailed to me so i thought it would be best i posted it here : )

The journey that took place in the course of 5 months was concluded as the 21thousand fans tuned in for the finals in the live broadcast. There were successions of games that were ‘finals before the finals’, and in the finale of season1 the dream match of , Hwaseung’s Jaedong vs KTF’s, Flash and in the season2 SKT’s bisu vs Samsung Khan’s Jangbi took place.

Averatec Intel Classic - GomTV

The Averatec-Intel Classic that produced so many new records and sensational matches, will have season3’s opening on March 29th, PDT(pst+1) 02:00. Embarking on yet another 20 weeks of spectacular journey. On the 29th we have great line ups such as ToSsGirL(T) – Casey(Z)/ idra(T) – Trap(p) / Cloud(T) – Fire(T) games which will be aired live.

Also on April 5th top 64’s 1st round will be played, and starting from the April 12th the mobilization of top 32 players in full force will be witnessed.

In the season 3 Averatec Gomtv classic season 3 will meet the fans with a notch higher upgraded, and sophisticated service and games. On the 29th Flash(T), Stork(P), Jaedong(Z), and many more in the top 32 seed players will clash with the struggling gamers who climbed up from the rock bottom in the 256 playoffs. Champion will be awarded with 40 million won, 2nd place winner will be awarded with 15 million won, and to two players from the top 4 will each be awarded with 5 million won.

All games can be watched on every Sunday live on GOMTV.NET and , at PDT(PST+1) 02:00, and in the upcoming new season you will be able to watch more live and sensational games than the previous season, and also will be able to download High-definition VODs for your viewing pleasure.

Winner takes home 40 million won, that's about the same prize for the OSL first place if I'm not mistaken.

Will be a great season, looking forward to the matches. And we can finally download high-definiton VOD's that's sweeet.

Tasteless, I just wanna know what happened to the earlier 256/128 games. Did fewer players participate this season, or did GOM do those games without broadcasting them?

I assume you mean high-quality and not high-definition right? wouldn't make much sense going HD since SC is 640x480.

yeah they mean high quality, though GOMTV always uses the words HD because it so popular nowadays to just say HD and increase your viewership. They claimed that the premium live stream would be in HD when it wasnt even close to HD. I wonder if they upgraded the quality of the normal stream back to its original state before premium existed.

Speaking of HD, it must look crazy good.
Even if it isn't pure HD.

I mean if its pure 640x480 without any compression or whatnot, it will look so great.

Is SKT participating? I would assume boxer would get a televised match if they were, and they don't mention Bisu as one of of the seeds.

Yeah, under those conditions it should look exactly like starcraft does in-game. good enough for me.

Here's the problem: Starcraft uses 8-bit color. If they broadcast this in 8-bit color, that'll be 8 bits per pixel. 640x480 pixels = 307200 pixels per frame, making each frame a size of 300 kB. Video generally runs at 30 frames per second. Average game length is about 15 minutes, so each game would consist of 27000 frames, each at 300 kB, making the uncompressed video file somewhere around 7.72 GB. If they use a larger color space, it'll be more, longer games will be larger, obviously, and this is just the video, this isn't even including audio. Lossy codecs can get that down to several MB, around a thousand times less space. It's just impractical to download uncompressed videos at *any* resolution, since 640x480 isn't particularly high.

Ya, USD$50 is a bit pricey. I'm debating whether I should pay.

If it was USD$20, I would've signed up without hesitation. I don't actually care about being able to download HQVODs, I just want the premium stream without lag or drops.

USD$50 is like CAN$60 for 1 night of TV a week.

* Each ticket is only usable in the channel it was intended for

What does that mean? Can I sign in from different locations as long as I only sign in from 1 spot at a time? For example, if I bought this and went to a TL Starcraft LAN, could I use my ticket to watch with the guys?

Hm, yeah, there seem to be a lot of errors in that bracket, at least in the seeds. The non-seeds seem right.

(On a related note, how in the world is Flash not a seed?)

Flash is a seed (Or at least he probably is). Lucifer and Flash have the same name and same team so I assume they have them swapped places by accident.

This is even worse than season 2. Only 8 out of 12 teams are participating, I don't think we can say the winner is legit.

Ah, that would make a lot of sense, and also explain that "T" next to Lucifer's name.

Idra's a B-teamer, and 815 and Roro are both A-teamers who make frequent appearances in real games. Define "beatable." =\

I guess the 'very' was a little overboard. But out of everyone he could have been seeded against, those are pretty good draws.

maybe this is an example of what Susie was referring to the "politics" of esports in her blog entry.

$50 isn't bad for the amount of hours of content you will get, but the DRM ties you to GOMPlayer. That's a dealbreaker for me.

Winner takes home 40 million won, that's about the same prize for the OSL first place if I'm not mistaken.

Now noone can say "Bisu only lost because he didn't practice, noone cares about this tourney anyways"

That's why Bisu wen't on and won the last season;)

Good point. Replace Bisu with Jaedong/Stork/Firebathero/JangBi/Tossgirl/Much/GanZi/whatever in that case :p

no SKTI, MBC, OGN is a bit sad.

maybe this is an example of what Susie was referring to the "politics" of esports in her blog entry.

What?? no Bisu, Boxer, Light, Leta....

really sucks not having the current gom champion and possibly the new OSL champion in it...

I was kinda expecting to see OGN and MBCGamehero join this now as well instead theyre still not in it and SKT T1 suddenly not in it anymore as well... but then again having 3 individual leagues is quite a bit more stress so I guess its pretty understandable.

Anyways looking forward to this

$50 isn't bad for the amount of hours of content you will get, but the DRM ties you to GOMPlayer. That's a dealbreaker for me.

I actually think the GOMPlayer is the best video player I've used. It's much prettier than VLC.

Ok, how come is it not possible to download the HQ vods anymore? The freakin' download button is missing. Anyone actually able to download recently? I used to be able to download vods but not anymore.

Edit:

Jesus!

Apparently you have to list the vods via this url:

http://www.gomtv.net/classics3/vod/

If you try to list them via http://www.gomtv.net/videos/, you can't see any download button.

Crappy design of the webpage. Well, at least dan och nick does a great job casting, which is the most important thing I suppose.

GOMPlayer looks nice but I actually like Daum Player best for functionality (even though it's in Korean).
