Its a question that I've been wondering for a while. What if say SC2 became as big as SC is in the pro-scene today with live matches, OSL, MSL and proleague altogether for SC2?
EDIT: I guess famous isn't the right word. I'm saying something like as renowned as SC is today.
Poll: Would you.. (Vote): Still play SC:BW hardcore but playing SC2 just for fun? (Vote): Go hardcore SC2 and play BW a little? (Vote): Strike a balance between both?

Popularity and size of the pro scene will have nothing to do with it. The way I divide my time between BW and SC2 will be based on how much I like it.

cs 1.6 vs cs:source imo.
Both will co-exist, the latter will get more exposure in competition, the old will still be around but not as much public sponsorship.

I hope it turns out just like WCIII.

if sc2 is as good as sc:bw, then everyone will play it. If not...then lots of bad things will happen.
|
A good portion of the reason why I play BW is because I have a competitive pro scene to follow as well. It'll depend for me on the pro scene. If BW still flourishes and they do NOT pick up SC2, then I will stick to BW. The vice versa is true as well.

SC2 will be good enough to play, no doubt. And that is where everyone will be playing and where all the tournaments will be so.. SC2 hardcore > sc:bw for fun
I believe the foreign scene will become as strong as the 1.6 scene is right now, with WC3 players making a transition to SC2 and major gaming orgas picking up SC2 teams (SK-gaming,fnatic, MYM, creating a massive fanbase.
The korean scene i have no idea about, isn't it up to kespa if they want to make the change given the game is good enough? I dont believe the teams/individual players have much say if kespa decides to switch track.

so certain you are im almost crying wishing ur words to became true, but it still needs a lot of things to reach that point

Nickelback is more popular than Ensiferum.
So I guess, it depends on why it's more popular. Because it's easy as #@!$ and all the casuals are loving the new zero clutter maps? Or because it's balanced, extremely fun to watch competitive pro gaming equal to that of its predecessor, or because the skill gap isn't narrowed so Starcraft still remiains easytolearn/impossibletomaster?

All of the foreign top teams are going to switch to SC2 and will thus cause all the top foreign tournaments to dump WC3/SC and move to SC2. Inside Korea though? Who knows.

I think we will come to embrace the game called "starcraft 2"
The thing is we should all stop for a moment, think clearly that starcraft 2 is a new game to master. She's a new love that we have found because the former is having a great relationship with her korean boyfriends.
Ok, I'll go hardcore on sc2 and play sc:bw for fun

The game isn't even done yet. SC:BW was as accident. Will lightening strike twice? Probably not. Perhaps it will be better than the WC3 scene, but probably not more than that.

lol, its more of a matter if SC2 is epic and my computer can run it as well as BW

I guess people really strive for it.

Obviously dependent on the quality of the game...... If it achieved the same status as BW, it could either be because of the money driving it, the quality of the game, or both. If it's just the money driving it, I will play BW.

how do you define famous? competitively and progaming wise, or like, just everyone ends up playing it because its addictive/cool (like WoW)
|
this came to my mind.
so we have the wc3 which in turn created dota to still become successful. (now all people are knows dota, even my girl plays with)
As per said by developers that the previous units from sc:bw will still be in the SC2.
Therefore, if someone kind soul will be so gracious enough to create a SC:BW inside SC2 in order for our beloved SC:BW players to transition themselves to because in the modified version of SC2, we have our beloved SC:BW which has the same mechanics same units same everything (well, I hope it doesn't have the MBS because it is SC:BW inside SC2) except that is beautifully drawn since it uses the SC2 engine.
Is this a good idea or just plain bad!? I will create a thread like this on the SC2 Index if no one has.

maybe sc:bw when im like 70 smoething and can rant to my grand kids XD

where's the option for 'obviously need to wait and play the game first??'
|
If sc2 was as good as scbw I would go hardcore sc2 and never look back.
|
If SC2 is great I will start gaming it hardcore of course and I also hope that most countries will get WCG when SC2 comes. I think more tournaments and prize money will come along with SC2 as well. SC:BW has served it purpose very, very good, better than any game could ever do! BUT, it's time to move on since it has been around for ten years (ten fucking years, that shows you how good sc actually is!). Blizzard is probably knowing what they're doing, I hope SC2 will turn out awesome and that Korea will switch over to it!
Thank you! Stone face -_-

I would suck as badly at it as I do in SC. It would be pretty awesome though since the international community would be so strong.
|
I'll stick to which is more fun. If SC2 does turn out to be just as good as BW in terms of balance and competitiveness, I'll choose the one with the bigger community
|
I'll play Starcraft 2 over Starcraft even if it's not as good; where the pro gaming scene goes, I go.
