#2 Jaehoon
LOL
Ok he didn't play much against 'the best' players, and spammed games against players who just recently returned.
Still impressive somehow
|
My thoughts:
Flash just absolutely dominated this month. Flash went 52-8 on the last 7 days of the month and is currently sitting on 18 game winning streak. + Show Spoiler +Mad props to Mini for beating Flash this month
Happy that Jaehoon made it into top 5. My only problem is that he doesn't have many games against top players. But, still... really great job.
Bisu is back! He said he would and he delivered. I'm so happy as a Prottos user.
Effort almost became the first zerg to get +70% this month, but Flash 6-1'ed him on the 30th and the dream was crushed. Effort is having a solid year so far. Plus, Flash, Last and Bisu all picked him as the hardest Zerg to play against.
BEST!!! 3 Protosses in top 5??? Best's PvZ improved a lot which helped him to get into top 5.
First time in over year since Last didn't make it into top 5. I'll give him a pass since he was sick(Mumps). He still managed to play +200 sponsored games in March. What a monster.

Month of the Protoss but Flash is still the best!

zerg taking a hit but they are training shitty map at the moment, bluestorm, outsider... Where is Last?

Where's Last?
edit: 6th place isn't a shameful display by any means, but I wonder if he took a lot of March off or something.
Furthermore if we ignore Larva, I think Jaehoon might be #1.

Bow to the Hoon!
If zerg players figure out a way to somehow recreate the success of the SoulKey-FlaSh game, I believe it is possible to achieve a good level of consistent success (at least).

Hyun is taking Larva's place, only for PvZ though

Jae fucking hoon. Did not expect him to be up this far. Wow.

Seems really hard against Flash. Free had a really good run against Flash up until mid Feb last month but, Flash eventually figured him out and has been beating him hard. Same with soulkey. Soulkey was 3-4 against Flash in mid March and also beat him in team league. Flash said something like "Starcraft is a game where you constantly have to study and adjust" after losing to Soulkey. Then he went on to beat Soulkey 7 games in a row. Seems like more you play Flash, more you lose.

this gives a timing for lurkers to be placed on top of the ramp before +1 finishes (marines without +1 don't trade as well against muta/ling)

In a lot of ways players treat this as the real competition, even more than starleagues, these are like our proleague stats and trends.

wao i almost lost faith in BISU since he has been playing barely on average, he seem to be back, good to know he has improve his PvT, he used to play very old school type of play witch this days is not good at all. PvT , protoss has to be really aggresive to keep the terran at bay.

Flash is currently on 21 game winning streak after beating Zero 3-0 today. Broke Last's 19 game winning streak. I just don't know how to describe what Flash is doing right now.

I wonder if that'll set up a new type of pro-gaming actually. Isn't that how boxing/MMA tends to work sometimes? A sponsor gives a certain amount of money to a prize pool, winner takes X, loser takes Y?
Except in this case it's just winner-take-all. We could really be on the brink of something.
|

But it's usually been in a tournament setting, but this is just privately sponsored matches between 2 people. At its core you are correct though.
|
You know, you really get numbed to it after a while but even slowing down to process just how dominant flash is... it's unbelievable.
The fact that people like free or soulkey (or zero was it that convinced flash to change his tvz late game strategy to mech switch in 2010?) have to come up with new ways to play against Flash's Terran to win, and even then, if you play him enough, he WILL figure you out and proceed to stomp you.
This is a hard game, and he's playing against the best of the best out there. I understand the scene is probably not as competitive as the KeSPA era, but God... he puts up 70-80% win rates month after month, and he just doesn't stop. The lowest I've seen his win rate in a single match up was like mid to high 60s.
And 21 win streak? I understand that Last has been incredible month after month as well, but flash is much more (and probably the most) consistent.
How can someone be this good? Lol

lol jaehoon beating up on lower-skilled players, i don't think we can take his stats too seriously here
|
I agree Jaehoon would be lower if he played against the other top 5 players, but he's 7-2 against Stork, 1-0 against Last, 2-0 against Light, 1-0 against BeSt, 2-0 against freaking Hero, almost breaking even against Jaedong with 2-3... he's not just beating up lower-skilled players.
Besides, what are you gonna call Bisu and Effort going 5-0 and 7-0 against fucking Rush?
|
so...now that april 1st is past, what are the real rankings lol
|
1) Wow. Larva actually does ridiculously good against Flash. He has always done okay against Bisu. Kinda suprising he doesn't get better results TBH.
2) EffOrt playing well, but that's been typical. He just hasn't had "it" for his important games yet. Hopefully that changes now.
3)Bisu looks like he is "struggling" in PvZ...until you see where his games came from. Over 50% of his games are versus JD, EffOrt, and HerO. You're doing alright with a winning record against the three best PvZers
4)Best has really improved his PvZ from the days of dohsairs. Around 50% when considering only the top tier zergs. That's solid.
Where do these stats come from by the way?
|
Jaedong performance is worrying. What has happened? Who views his stream, how is he paying now?
|
I believe that jaehoon's nickname "failhoon" is colouring peoples perception of him more than his actual play. That nickname happened because of some misplaced arbiters stasis back in his progaming days i think. He is legit. He was A-team member for his team with an okay winrate. He has 3 top placements in various offline leagues and dont forget he got top 8 in ASL 1.

He also quickly became one of the best players on his team in the SC2 proleague after the transition. He's really talented, hopefully he can get past Ro8 this season.

Daily matches streamed on Afreeca. Every streamed win & loss is counted.

Seems like Bisu is on a mission. He's played solid in March. In first 7 days of April, He's 24-5 (82.8%) having winning records against top players (4-2 vs Last, 1-0 vs Flash 7-1 against Effort). I really hope Bisu gets first place in April. But, Flash is still dominating, so who knows. But, one can hope.

Flash, what a beast. And Jaehoon too, awesome player, I used to enjoy his games back in the day. I just with Jangbi would play again, he was my favorite protoss player.
So, for Flash I did the math, round it up to like all in all 200 games in a month, like 7 games a day. And the progamers used to be forced to play like 12 hours a day, now 7 games. Things have improved for them, quality of life - wise. I have no idea what it's like to be against Flash. I remember in the nal_ra clips, they said when you play against him, you just forget what winning feels like. You just lose and lose and lose even some more.

These stats only count sponsored matches. The players play more than just sponsored matches, but you're right, they do play far less than they used to.
