Some guy used that to back up the statement that: even foreigners know Iris's TvZ sucks.
Which is pretty obvious
Half-expected TL to show up, but I was surprised nonetheless.
Then some guys reply that foreigners suck so they shouldn't be the ones judging T_T But don't worry, FiFo is the opposite of PGR. It's full of trash talking noobs who will never experience puberty before death.
PS. Who's the guy who posted that. He must be a poster/lurker here.

nice
People who think foreigners suck are retarded, considering they are spoonfed their BW news, and dont have to hack it out of raw material like we do.
I would venture to say that this site houses the real fans, because we struggle for what we love.

i would trust DJEtterStyle's judgements over pretty much anyone else on this site, he is the most analytical when it comes to the matchups. many people can say "PUSAN > HWASIN EZ HEHE PUSAN 4EVER", but not a lot of them factor into account that the match was played on desert fox. he, on the other hand, was right there gloating, which by the way, he should feel free to because he was right :p
anyway, DJEtterStyle was given power rankings for a reason, and i'm personally glad they were featured instead of someone like ManaBlue's insightful personal judgements

yawn, so do 99% of the sports casters on tv. Being able to watch and analyze a game is different than playing a game. Come up with some real arguments.

On a related note, I used to think the American Internet community was immature with the endless 'lol i ownz jooo' act and trash talking. But the Korean community has proven me wrong. Way wrong. It is the most flame war hungry group I have ever witnessed. And I've seen a lot. A picture or topic of ANYTHING turns into a flame war 99% of the time.

Well, I go there once a day to check if there's any funny/interesting pictures
But it's tempting to look at the comments to find what kind of creative ways FiFo people have come up with to start a flame war..
choding = elementary schoolers joongding = middle goding = high daeding = college
ding suffix implies negative connotation, way of looking down.
but JongMan, I'm not just talking about FiFo. Korean 'netizens' piss me off.

A friend of mine does the Naver Ji-Shik-In (지식iN) shit and he admits to posting bullshit sometimes for the fun of it, usually on topics concerning penis enlargement and the likes..
Not to mention Cyberterrorism that has been an issue lately. Korea might be the only country where insults via the Internet have caused a celebrity to commit suicide.

In my experience, a sports casting team has at least one former professional who was once performing on the level of the game he is casting. I know that is not universal but it is certainly widespread and the preference. Aside from that, BW stands apart from most sports because the brains and the performance come from the same person. Therefore it is harder to imagine that a non-player, or a bad player, can really grasp what is essential to the game. In sports, the norm is for non-players (coaches) to be the genius behind the play and the players are only as good as they can fulfill the coach's direction. It's easier to accept that a non-player understands a game at the highest level when the players themselves don't need to understand it but are simply filling roles.

Then some guys reply that foreigners suck so they shouldn't be the ones judging T_T
I don't understand why if we are not able to play at their level that that corresponds to us not being able to talk about it. Many of us (okay all of us) are not professional athletes and cannot throw a football 80 yards with exact precision, but does that mean we cannot analyze a football game or ones performances? These are definitely the words of an arrogant Korean (just this one, not all Koreans are arrogant -- except savior ).

You would still need to prove that the inexperienced that are judging football are in fact significantly knowledgable in comparison to the experienced, otherwise you have to cede the point. But don't bother, since the Koreans don't claim that nothing can be judged by the inexperienced so it's not helping your argument to bring up a counterexample to that claim. Rather, the Koreans are talking specifically about BW. I think it's self-evident that the nature of BW as a "spectator event" has no precedent and needs to be judged of itself.
My impression is that the Koreans have the correct inclination and that the foreigners are inadvertently drawing on a fallacious analogy to popular sports in order to validate themselves.

Reread your posts and wish to update what I said. If you believe that its a forum and not a public debate and needs to be judged then why do you question my argument. However I was not talking about the commentary of the ESPN commentators but more towards the daily interactions that we have with our friends, which is essentially what this message board is. I don't think I've ever stepped back during a conversation about the abilities of Peyton Manning and been like, oh but I'm not from the NFL so I can't comment on this.
One more edit: Why can't we compare it to professional sports? Is that not what the BW scene in Korea is? You have people who do something they love in front of spectators and get paid for it. Sounds pretty familiar to me.

I wasn't around during the WCG 2005, but watching the WCG documentary I might have insight as to what happened. At the end of the game it appears that Androide said something along the lines of, "I fucked up, but you are still good, gg"

And probably the most painful thing is their opinion on foreigner players. From my experience I know that Koreans think that they have some special talent for StarCraft, but in my opinion they mostly owe it to the great progaming structure in Korea.

Actually I don't think it has anything to do with this. I think some koreans just like to expand their horizons and broaden their views and not just hang out on korean sites.
This could apply for any kind of people, but I guess korean people can be very nationalistic at times and slander foreigners, and maybe that attitude make some koreans come here.

It has such a wide variety of people (from just plain silly/funny to very thoughtful, philosophical discussions -- and doctors / soon-to-be doctors)
But don't judge Koreans because of what some cho-ding wrote on FiFo. A majority of their comments are a waste of time to read. If you go to places like pgr21, everyone is mature, and their recommended section (much like our featured threads) is always a pleasure to read. They have zero tolerance for idiotic posts. But I don't feel that level of excitement as I do from TL (not to say that they have none, but not as much).
I do agree -- this site has been crafted very well.

If you wanna see an example of prepubescent korean bm in korean, read the text in game and comments for crayon vs fleta on yglan.
So uh, why are you still in the clan if they're just about all bm to you? ;P Also, maybe they just 8 rax frequently anyway? It was a pretty popular opening for a while I thought.

I wasn't around during the WCG 2005, but watching the WCG documentary I might have insight as to what happened. At the end of the game it appears that Androide said something along the lines of, "I fucked up, but you are still good, gg" Someone correct me if I'm wrong. He said "I miss, you win, gg" Think he was referring to failing his timing push that could of won the game for him. Also, after silent_control lost to androide, bunch of korean hackers hacked his fan page..rofl poor guy T_T
He actually said something more along the lines of: "Me miss" "But you strong" "^^" "gg"

I thought Androide was considered bad mannered because he spit in a player's face. Pretty sure it was a French player.

In all fairness, when compared to top korean pros, foreigners really do suck :0 And there is alot of arrogance, imo, with someone who is not 1/10th the skill of a pro to say "the pro should do this or should do that". In any game of incomplete information like starcraft, you are occasionally going to look like an idiot, and occasionally going to look like a genius. For example, everyone critized go)rush for his risky all in hydra move vs rush, saying it's a bad idea.
"GoRush makes his opponent look like god because his ZvP has, incredibly, reached a new low" was a caption from the write up of the game. Granted that was Manablue who wrote that, not the person in question, but the fact remains that there are foreigners insulting the skills of korean pros."
You can say, in all fairness, GoRushes ZvP HAS reached a new low. I say, neither you, nor I, are qualified to say that and 20 some pro league games or whatever field his record vs protoss is drawn from is not nearly enough to say that he is good or isn't. I'm actually quite surprised that the current format is what it is, where a few key matches decide who is best and who is worst. I guess that adds some more excitement, because with a gamei or PGT style play alot of games and top is winner, the best would almost always win, but with very few games it's easier for worse players to win.
Anyway I hope I am not being too critical of the people who put in alot of their own time to bring me those writeups, nor am I asking you to change the way you do them, because those funny sayings below the pictures make me laugh, especially when they insult one of the players, and everyone appreciates the work you do. I'm just saying maybe there's a grain of truth in what the koreans are saying :0

I completely, totally, absolutely fucking agree with the bolded part, and I wish more people would realize that. There is so much chance (and not just in ZvZ) that for the most part it's a game of chance without playing more bo27's. Some guy gets lucky once in group stages and all of a sudden he's in the elimination tourney (and a couple easy matchups/upsets/creampuff opponents and lucky breaks and he's won the 6 games needed to be in finals, or even the 9 needed to be OSL champ) and the loser is sent to ODT, where one fuckup puts you into the offline qualifiers from which you may not be able to ever return without phenomenal luck.
As for the rest of the post, I would venture that just because we aren't nuclear physicists doesn't mean we can't mock Chernobyl safety inspectors; just because we aren't Tom Brady doesn't mean we can't make fun of Rex Grossman. Intellectually, we understand that these guys are on a whole different level, but when a progamer consistently loses against the standard bar of Korean competition in a certain matchup (and in very lopsided fashion), then we can say things like they aren't adapting any more and that they are slumping in said matchup, not keeping up with everyone else. When we say they suck, we mean it in a very relative sense - that is, normalized to the constantly shifting skill levels of everyone else in Korea.

Does someone have the picture? I read the thread but am still not sure of what the picture was.

"when a progamer consistently loses against the standard bar of Korean competition in a certain matchup (and in very lopsided fashion)"
you are right about this, but you must also say, how many games means consistently? Certianly 1 or 2 or 10 are not enough. Certainly 10,000 is enough. The exact # depends on how much variance is involved in the game, which is a very tough number of calculate. I just wish people wouldn't judge so harshly when a progamer loses 3 or 4 games in a row. The best player, playing against worse players, will eventually go on a losing streak of 5 or 6 games.

I just don't know what I say, but first off, I'd like to thank the Academy. I mean, they're the ones who make this sort of recognition possible. Then, of course, I have to thank my parents. All those endless singing lessons as a child--how I hated them! But now I understand that they were just preparing me to be... the Voice of the Foreigners. HAHA
