SonicTV is looking for amateur players that love Brood War and are confident in their skills. Sonic aims to provide a practice environment for these players and uncover new Starcraft talents in the process. SonicTV will review and interview applicants to select about 10 players that will take part in an upcoming broadcasted project. In August, the players will face an All-Star progamer team in a SonicTV Super Fight.
The players must be D rank or higher on Fish and be able to take part in the offline activities/broadcasts after the selection process (so no, Sziky, sorry ). Ex-practice partners, trainees, semi-pros etc. are of course welcome as well. Recruitment period: 2015 4/23 ~ 4/30
Results (Invitations for interviews): 2015 5/1
Interviewing: 2015 5/4 ~ 2015 5/8
Selection: about 3 months after 2015 5/12
Selected players will join SonicTV's "New StarCraft: Brood War Team". They'll receive 3 months of training in SonicTV's practice 'laboratory' and get SonicTV related broadcast appearances. They'll get support for setting up a private broadcasting if necessary. The players will also be compensated for some of the activities.

This could be so potentially awesome, good stuff Sonic!

Sonic has always had his eye on the next generation, because he knows that it's dangerous to rely on nothing but the old pros, as they will inevitably leave the scene for reasons related to real life. That's why he made his own Sonic / Sbenu team with amateurs when he held his Proleague.
Oh, Sonic, I'm sorry I expressed doubt in you when I heard you were sponsoring a SC2 league . You're still the best thing to happen to BW in a long time.
|
sounds great, i hope this works out really well. Scan, you gonna participate in this?

It's so awesome that he supports all StarCraft, not just BW or SC2. Do you think it is a possibility somewhere in the future that KeSPA picks up BW again and runs leagues for both games?

Sounds like a fun show coming up. Would be so cool to get a foreign bonjwa like sziky involved.

realistically, who would REALLY want to go to Korea for half a year or longer, even if, hypothetically, Sonic would provide flights, housing and lodging? All top players in this community work pretty ordinary jobs and can't just throw them in the dirt for half a year Korea. Scan could participatem, if he were to be in Korea in the given timeframe, but i already heard him say he won't be in the ICC skype group. If Sziky/Eon would be 100% positive to do it, we could try to set something up with Sonic. No big chance for success, but worth a try at least.

Welcome back Stratos! Haven't seen you physically (or virtually in this case) make a thread in ages!
Also this is a very interesting idea. I remember long ago, OGN did something similar where they set up an amateur OSL type thing and winner gets to be on qualifiers for one of their OSL. They had episodes/filming of these amateur where they would eventually reside in pro-teams for a very short time to buff them before having their own finals against each other.
But I believe this takes one step further.

I'm not sure but you might be referring to the Courage tournament, which was one of the main channels for an amateur to obtain a pro license.

As long as OGN continues to support Sonic like they are doing now, I'd rather not have KeSPA anywhere near Broodwar. KeSPA didn't make Broodwar what it was, OGN and MBC did. Of course they had people sat on the KeSPA board, but it was their tournaments that made BW great and more importantly the players.
KeSPA and their ridiculous rules (lol GoRush being dq'd for accidentally typing a in game) can stay the heck away. They add nothing to it. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/93222-spoilers-the-kespa-saga-osl-c-group. Don't even get me started on KeSPA's ruling on the 2009 Nate MSL finals after the powercut. Three hours to make a decision, the wrong one :/

Nice, this is great, thanks for the update prech

that's great. Sonic is truly a mastermind, he realized that what the SOSPA Scene needed for continous growth was the influx of new players who are trained and prepared to catch up to the ex pro gamers. He is doing exactly that with his team house and im quite excited to see what will come from it.
Yes, i know a couple of these guys have a pro-gaming background, but they never had a real break-through.
Over-All very happy to see this.

Child looks so handsome with curly hair now. I fear for these newcomers, I mean really, it's a risk from Sonic to support these guys. What if the starcraft pro scene falls on its back? the StarCraft pro scene has whimpered by when OGN shut down operations in 2012 and StarCraft is getting less and less popular. It will be interesting to see how things pan out and if these guys will manage to make a dent or be mediocre.

This is basically season 2 of that show. Too bad the korean subs aren't complete, just like with the first season.. Otherwise I would've translated the shit out of that show.
If anyone's interested in filling the blanks (my listening sucks), I'd be happy to cooperate with anyone. I can do the editing stuff (so there's no vide-editing knowledge required). In fact, if someone would be up for just transcribing what the people are saying in Korean in the unsubbed parts and answering my occasional question, that would be more than enough to get this underway.

Child is apparently the designated coach for this team (he did coaching for Woongjin in the past)

It'll be a proleague of 8 teams. 2 teams of amateurs - 1 picked based on their performance in an amateur clanleague(s) and the other I presume SBENU BBARAS. The 6 other teams of ex-pros won't be the old ex-pro teams but new teams with new sponsors. The playoffs, semis and finals will be played offline. Not confirmed it'll be on ogn yet. Actually all the stuff just says that it 'is planned to be that way' so nothing is set in stone just yet, but proleague is certainly coming back in one shape or another
PS this is just a part of the big announcement of good stuff to come but the rest (even bigger things) will be announced when it's 100% confirmed.

bump. After Sonic's announcement to probably not sponsor an additional Starleague anytime soon via SBENU due to economical reasons, we probably all assumed that his plans for the new Proleague are off as well.
However, i still ask myself if Team BBaras is still existing or if they had to disband as well? I have heard nothing about them recently, does anybody have knowledge in that regard? Also there seems to be no new episode of "Sonic becomes a coach", was the series canceled?
thx guys

also I believe Bale called Child his coach during his winner's interview in the NSL group, so BBARAS is still alive in some form.

So Sonic got money to host all SSL's of SC2 and to manage a proleague team but no money for a single BW tourney? Where did passion go wrong or replaced by greediness? We all know that SC2 will be dead soon after release of LotV but BW gonna live forever, so my tip to Sonic "You're doing it wrong buddy".

That is where it went wrong... Over sponsoring SC2 content leaving no money for BW...

Ah pls, Sonic did so much for the scene... The only thing i don't understand is that i thought the SSL was a success on OGN, you would assume they would find a sponsor somehow
