I started a thread a little while ago about the lack of places for beginners to play, and here's one of the results. I think it will be really great, and I have to thank SC Fighting alot for all of their help, and I hope everyone here hangs out in the channel sometimes. A special message to my Clan )TL( friends: this doesn't mean our clan is over, its just that the hangout-find games function is changing places. Things will still progress with our clan as usual. Thanks everyone, and here's the official announcement:
Today I am pleased to announce the beginning of a new community for the less-skilled StarCraft players among us, brought to you by SCFighting.com .
SC Start is a community designed specifically for players who are lower in skill level, who have trouble finding a decent game due to the high level of skill required in online ladders and the high variability of skill in public games. Instead of a highly competitive ladder situation, users will rank themselves according to Excalibur’s Skill Evolution article (link in the forums), a numbered ranking system with which users can determine their own skill level.
If you are looking for a friendly environment where you can develop your abilities without having to bang your head against the wall of the higher skilled ladder systems, head to channel op SCS on the Europe server and check out the SC Start forum, the home of the community which is linked directly with the channel, at http://www.scfighting.com/Forum/phpBB2/ .
We look forward to seeing you online, good luck and have fun!
thanks! SC Fighting is working on the load time problem as we speak, so that should be fixed soon. Just head to the channel, op scs, and start playing. The most important thing is that we all just hang out and play, everything else is secondary at this point
Just so you all know, the ranking system we're using can be found here: http://www.scfighting.com/articles/skillevolution.php . I think the key will be that people reevaluate their rankings based on how well they do against people of a similar rank. If you think you're a 3, play a few games. If you win them all, try moving up to a 4. We've had alot of people in and out throughout the night, thanks for everyone participating so far.
W00t I am so joining this and everything. Although a program could be like gosus coming along and saying they're like level 3 and then they 1v1 you and totally trash you. Like it could be abused and seen as a newbie bash channel.
You must admit beating in a noob badly after a few serious games makes you feel good. General you tend to ask for games 1v1 vs people not as good as you rather than people better than you (well that applies to me and I'm not sure about other people).

I try to avoid playing people worse than me.. Only times I do that is a) They are nice 2) Ladder 3) I know them
And most good players I know think like this I think--~
Hehe, I've gotten totaly bashed sofar, me thinks I need to practice alot, and not hit people with sticks, this makes fingers ache from the training and tight grip.
You do philipino MA? ;o Kali, Arnis? Pekiti Tirsia maybe ;P?
Or indonesian?
Not a lot of non-indonesian/philipino martial arts with stickfighting, except JKD concepts and some wing chun places but they just use stuff from kali etc.
good idea.. im tired of getting beaten up in channel cal =x the site isnt working for me.. but imma add op scs to the bnet channel list.. might stop by sometime..
Update: We've had a great response, mostly from teamliquid people. Last night there were a sustained 15-20 people in the channel with multiple games going on. It's quite nice, thanks everyone for participating. People seem to be finding good games, and everyone so far seems nice. Hope to see you in op scs.

haha yeah i played him yesterday on gaia, before we started he was like "i dont know the map" so i asked him if he wanted to change, he says no its cool
after losing he says "gg for someone who didn't know the map" then he left -_-
T.T
edit: oh i was also protoss because i didn't want to tvt so it's not like i was in top form either -_-
I <3 IT SO MUCH!! I'm sick of pounding newbie pubbies to the ground but being slaughtered by like 800-500 record pubbies. Finally I have a place to play where I can find people that are more or less equal in skill to me! W00t!
We now have a fairly stable base of people playing freindly, good games in op SCS, usually > 10 at any given time, peaking over 20. The forums are fairly active already, and our new strategy forum is producing some very in-depth articles. Things seem to be working out pretty well, so if you were hesitant about coming for some reason, believe me as a player who sucks, its fun. We're getting ready to host a tournament for new players, and we have an amazing new rating system made by excal that seems to be very accurate. Thanks to everyone who's taking part in the community, I hope you're enjoying it as much as we are.
