Leave now if you haven't seen the finals yet

>>>>>Interview below<<<<<

Flash, “I almost cried after winning”

From the Golden Mouse to the MSL Golden Badge, Flash reasserted himself as the most powerful player existing today. Practicing until his arm felt like breaking was the effort he put in it to win, Flash’s facial expressions were brighter than anytime before.

You’ve opened the golden age. Your feelings?
I feel really great that I finally got the Golden Badge (laughs). In the pre-match interview, I said “I will savor the happiness after I win it” and it seems like this is the feeling (laughs). I want to continue to win a 7th, 8th starleague and become a player who works for that.

What was the driving force that helped you win?
The rib eye steak that Coach Lee bought for me. Coach Lee heard that Woongjin’s Coach Lee Jae-gyun bought Zero beef sirloin and so he looked for Kangnam’s most expensive restaurant and bought me the beef there. I think I was able to win thanks to that.

You mentioned a lot of thanks to your parents and KT.
My mother always read the comments in articles about me. I haven’t read any in a really long time but seeing my mother feeling bad after reading them wrenched my heart. But they won’t go away even if I keep winning (laughs). I wanted to win for my parents. I think by winning today there will be more nice comments rather than mean ones (laughs). I am where I am now because of my parents.

I think our team’s fans always won in terms of cheering during the finals. But our team’s director always expresses disappointment that he could do more. They really do the most they can but he always wants to show even more elaborate ways of cheering. I don’t think there is any other team that supports the players like ours does. I really want to give my thanks.

Before the match, you said that you needed to read Soulkey’s mind.
My strategy itself was built in order to counter Zero. Woongjin Zerg players play very stably and I took that and turned it into a weakness. My builds worked better than I thought they would so I think I was able to win easily. I didn’t think of Soulkey from the very start.

You are playing SKT1 tomorrow.
I’m going to go practice and am not even be able to eat dinner. My win is important but it is a very critical time for our team as well. My teammates are practicing like crazy right now; they didn’t even come to cheer for me. I want to hurry up and meet up with them and prepare for tomorrow. Previous winners often lose their next Proleague match and lose their momentum but I am going to work hard to keep it alive.

Your valkyrie build was exposed in the first set but you still won that game.
I was planning on moving out after getting two valkyries but after my opponent’s zergling saw my build, I anticipated that he would make drones so attacking was something that I had improvised on the spot. If that attack did not turn out well, the game would have become harder to play.

Why did you pick such an unorthodox build?
I started to think about the finals during the semifinal rounds and thought up a build. I showed the best macro I ever could in the semifinals and I prepared the most unique and unconventional build that I could in the finals. I figured that my opponent would be unable to predict my build and I think that worked out well.

I heard that your arm is not dong very well.
I said that my arm was ok before but the truth is that after playing 3 or 4 games, it starts to hurt bad. I’m thinking to do all that I can to fix it after the season is over. I can’t do anything about it right now, can I? I think it is time to show my true fighting spirit. (T/N: omg flash safety first )

Do you have a goal this season?
Last year I heard people say things like “It is difficult for Flash to improve any more than he is now”. But my goal is to always show myself developing so I’m doing my best to show a better image of myself this season than the last one. I want to be a player that continues to improve.

It seems like your desire to win the Proleague finals is even greater.
I heard that they were having the finals in Shanghai instead of Gwang-anri. Last time I won an individual league so this time I want to win the Proleague finals with my teammates.

They really are having the finals in Shanghai. What do you feel about it?
I first worried that fans would be greatly disheartened. But I think players are there to win wherever they play. I don’t think they had the finals in Shanghai for no reason at all. I hope the fans would be more lenient about it. It might be something done to develop e-sports more so I hope they will watch it. (T/N: In the FOMOS interview, Flash actually says that he “didn’t like the news” lol...)

Any last words?
I wonder if I have practiced as hard as I did for this than I have ever practiced before. After I won I almost cried. People around me helped me so much and cheered for me so much so I want to tell them that I am very thankful.

And before I went to the match location, my teammates told me to win. I want to beat SKT1 tomorrow, go to Shanghai with my teammates, and complete the feeling of victory.

Every time you troll on the internet you make Flash's mum cry.

Christ? he has to play SKT1 tonight just after that? with fucked up wrists? pretty sure his fans all want him to just take it easy and recover. Heres hoping his teammates can just 4-0 without him.
Only the weak link is strong enough to break the chain.

Thank you very much for the translation, white_horse! :D

Lol, now we know the secret to Flash's victory... Meat. And since it was the most expensive meat they could find, no wonder he won the finals.

I was planning on moving out after getting two valkyries but after my opponent’s zergling saw my build, I anticipated that he would make drones so attacking was something that I had improvised on the spot.

This was most likely a major factor as to why Flash won the championship; his lightning fast decision making. It's important for players to be able to adapt to strategies, and Flash yet again showed how flexible he can be with them. This trait of his will allow Flash to develop more as a player in the future and improve himself.

A small mistake- Arm should be wrist instead! Anyway, much thanks to you again for the translation! ^^

Thank you so much for the translation white_horse
Flash... I wasn't able to watch the games because of my shitty internet but I caught the last bit of the stream when he was smiling during the post-match live interview. As much as people might say his answers are stereotypical about saying "thank you" and that "he'll try harder" it always makes my heart glow as a fan because I know he means it. He's definitely been cocky in the past but seeing him learn from that and continually work to better himself as a player is so wonderful to watch and I really feel like it's what keeps him at the top, even after all this time.
Flash hwaeeting, all the way Let's see how many more titles you get under your belt before your career is over <3

yeah I really respect flash. I don't know him personally obviously, but from the interviews that I read, I really think that he has the work ethic and integrity that makes him really great. Like they say, you only need to be good at games in order to get to the top, but to stay at the top requires more than just being good at games, and flash is the best example of this.

You can't any better than flash in terms of a professional - so outstanding and a hard worker, yet he is also respectful and seems to have a modest and very likeable personality.

I don't know how post-match interviews work but if all the interviewers sit in a room with flash at the same time and hear his answers altogether, then I think the DES interviewer just decided to leave out the part of flash saying that he didn't like the finals location. The DES and fomos interview articles are pretty much the same in both question and answer.

not if you go lurkers. I agree with some of the posters in the game thread: zero got thrown way out wack after the first game and played stupidly for 2 and 3. Because why would he insist on going mutas against valks every game? Why not switch it up and force Flash to adapt?

I really think Zero fell victim to the pressure and like so many of the analysts had said, his mental weakness was his downfall. Namely, there was so much expectation put on the Monte Cristo maps and the advantage Zero was seemingly destined to have on it. When he failed the first game on Monte Cristo, I think it got to his head and affected his play. His normally crisp ZvT deteriorated every game so that by the end of game 3, Zero spent the last five minutes suiciding his forces piece by piece, uncoordinated and out of sync. It was really sad to see.

He's right about that: SKT vs KT

Thanks for the translation!

I don't consider myself a Flash fan, but by god, he deserves that badge. His play in all three games was absolutely dominating. Too dominating in fact- I thought the finals were kind of underwhelming due to how one sided they were. I feel bad for Zero though, hopefully he doesn't take the loss too hard, he's been doing great up to this point/in SPL.

It kinda sucks that Flash doesn't have a chance to rest or celebrate his victory yet either, he's facing SKT tonight!

The rib eye steak that Coach Lee bought for me.

You are playing SKT1 tomorrow.
I’m going to go practice and am not even be able to eat dinner.

Nooooooo Flash! If food makes you win MSL finals, why are you not eating dinner before fighting SKT?

Nice translation. Flash is just so modest, and his work ethic is just... admirable. If we all took a bit of Flash's work ethic of SC into our own lives, we'd be so much better at what we do :D

The opposing player may not have been able to predict it, but everyone else sure could.
I find it amazing how many times a player can lose in a row to the same strategy.

Yellow, Stork, Savior, etc. You find it amazing because you aren't losing anything backseat gaming but when people are pressured, they either react erratically or tend to go towards builds they are familiar with. Its part of the game to push players into making these unforced errors.

To an extent that's a reasonable assessment, yet the players should be prepared enough to avoid showing such deadly weaknesses given how much they must practice for finals.
If you are not Bisu, chances are I hate you.

Smashing your keyboard 24/7 doesn't help you at all there, I'm 100% sure you don't know anything. Its like a horse, once its spooked you might as well call it a day because he's not going to jump over that hurdle.

People can practice for exams and be the smartest person in assignments but the minute their nerves kick in, they're going to struggle no matter what. Hard questions are going to be answered with uncertainty and easy questions are going to have too much time spent checking whether the method is correct. Flash and Jaedong are the epitome of a person who is confident in their play, perhaps Flash even more after that loss to Effort because I don't see him doing the same mistakes again.

If you watch Godzilla backwards it's about a benevolent lizard who helps rebuild a city and then moonwalks into the ocean.

Because when you left, Brood War was all spotlights and titans. Now, with the death of the big leagues, Brood War has moved to the basements and carparks. Now, Brood War is unlicensed brawls, lost teeth, and bloody fights for fistfulls of money - SirJolt

I really hope FlaSh gets some amazing treatment after this season is over, otherwise those 7th and 8th title chances are gonna look grim with that wrist

Zero said in an interview he preferred playing according to his game plans.
It worked VS Jaedong so maybe he hoped that it would work vs Flash too...
