Obvious Rules:
- Iccup rules
are in effect.
- All games should be played on Iccup with the Anti-Hack launcher enabled.
- Don't cheat, don't have someone not on your team play a game for your team, etc
- If a disconnect occurs and you can not agree that there was an obvious winner, regame. If you very much believe that there was an obvious winner contact me and I will look at the replay.
- If there are questions regarding anything ask me by posting in this thread or PMing me
Non-obvious Rules:
- Alumni and students who know for sure that they will be attending a certain college next year are allowed to play for that college. Also, high schools are allowed to enter as well.
- Matches will be played biweekly. It is the responsibility of each team's coordinator to communicate with their upcoming opponent about when the match will be played. Matches can be played any time within the alloted two-week period.
- Coordinators should PM me their lineups for their next match as soon as possible. Once both coordinators have submitted their lineups I will post them in the thread.
- Once a match is over someone on either team should post the final score in the thread. It is recommended that you save replays, though it is not required for you to submit them.
- Above all, do what you need to get stuff done. If your team's coordinator is away for a weekend feel free to have another member of your team act as your team's coordinator for that week.
Match Formats:
- There will be a suggested map order for each match that should be used unless both teams can agree to something different.
- Matches will be best-of three or five (if both teams have enough players for it) by default, but may be played as best-of any higher odd number instead if both teams agree to it.
- Matches will be proleague style (i.e. each player may only play one set except for the last set which is an ace set) by default, but may use a different format if both teams can agree to one (e.g. winner's league style or making the ace set just a regular set or having the fourth set be a 2v2 etc).
- Any number of individual sets may be played as a best-of three/five/etc instead of a best-of one if both players agree to it.

if you are interested in participating but don't have anyone else at your school to make a team with, post in this thread anyway as it is possible we can merge some schools in order to allow for more participation
I emphasize that you should only sign up if you are actually going to play. No-shows are annoying for people who actually play and are a huge headache for me.

you should not worry about the skill level of the people on your team. if you want you can even talk to the other team and set up your match so that you get people of similar skill matched up with each other.

just from scanning the thread it seems like the regions that could have merging teams are the south (~texas), the west (~california), and the north (~canada / pennsylvania). This is not something I want to figure out for you guys, and it's also not very hard to figure out if you just talk to each other, so get on it if you want to do it.

any suggestions on divisions (2 of 5 teams each)? normally i'd go east west but there's seven east and only three west. do people prefer east vs west+canada, east vs west and 2 eastern teams who are the furthest west of the eastern teams (i think these are CMU and Georgia Tech), random vs random, or something else entirely? tomorrow i am just going to pick something but i figured i'd ask first

3(west)|3|4(ne/se approximate) with each team on each of the 3-team divisions plays their score equal at the end of their division's own matches. In the case of three 1-1 teams in a division, select with a random number generator for both teams. Team with most wins plays vs Code A winner (explained below). If tied for wins then there is a tie-breaker series. If all 3 teams who come out of division have same score, then they play 3-way tie-breaker insanity.
I think a Code S/Code A system could be cool too, like second-place team from each division does 3-way tie-breaker insanity to determine a Code A winner. This would increase the amount of games people can play and keep brackets relatively simple! I figure since we have such a small team pool this season, we can get as many games as possible (:

To be honest, I do not see that much of a skill gap between all of these schools though; I guess splitting into a round robin will allow more games, so that will probably be optimal.

RU plays their matches at 9 pm on Sundays (mostly). I think if teams can submit their times of play as well as their MUs to Crunchums, then he will post them in the thread, and you will be able to decide what match is best for you to cast (in terms of timing). If you want I will send you the reps from the RU vs. Tappan Zee match, once I get the last one.

BS is playable by modern standards, and both Tau Cross and Neo Requiem were used in last last year's WL (Both proved to be a bit imba in some MUs, but still playable and didn't result in constant mirror MUs). Luna is simply just T>>Z>>>>P>>T. If Zerg gets top left spawn, the nat hatch's creep doesn't cover the ramp and therefore makes defending any sort of sunken bust that much more difficult (defending against vulture runbys will be hell too.). In PvZ.. I tested out simcitying, and wow top left it is impossible to Forge-FE safely (what the fuck was the mapmaker thinking when he designed top left). Other positions is not that much better, but its KINDA doable.
And TvP would probably be a bunch of timing pushes on this map because going for a macro game on this map as a Terran isn't very viable at all.

I've been reading and thinking this thread. Maybe we need more hype and excitement and life into this to gain popularity among ourselves, the SC BW players, and/or people outside who are observers or need something to be entertained.
Casting and streaming is a good step forward, maybe live reports with fancy graphics and banners, perhaps even write ups or summaries of the most excitement matches with pictures. In any film or stories to be exciting, there has to be a plot, some sort of drama with characters. I'm not really seeing that here, just a bunch of teams having friendly competition but no character in them. There has to be a built-in drama that we can all refer to, make fun of, etc or else it'll all be another "oh, it's one of those" typical boring competition!!!!!

when i started this i wasn't even thinking about it from a spectator's point of view, it was all just to provide opportunities to play some games, and at the end of the day it is up to the players to make sure that those games actually happen
if someone wants to try and make that happen that would be sweet but it is not something that i want to spend time on, at least right now

Well that's the thing, even if it isn't from the spectator's POV and provide opportunities to play some games, in order to attract even BW players, there has to be some sort of an external hype to create an internal attraction to continue. Motivation basically and sometimes that can be just as simple as prizes, prestige, and honor/glory. But once again, something that lures people in..... like how news programs or any TV show will lure you in to sit down for their entire cast or at least half way to stay and watch their program.

I think the casts are pretty funny and exciting. Everyone that commentated last cast did a really good job. However, one thing I would like is that we don't know which team has won until ZNF casts the match up. Then the results can be posted.

I think you should let ZNF know if you want to do this. Then pm all the coordinators about this change and remind them that they need to send you the lineups/matchups. I would like to see the casts before the results though. It doesn't even need to be streamed live, it could be the replays.

I can't make any promises but if I have time in my hand, I would like to help out doing something that brings out hype or maybe even as simple as another commentator/caster. But that is in all aside if I have time and no promises but in my heart and soul I would so do that...

I totally agree. Everything surrounding the games is nice, but if the games aren't played there is no point to any of it. Your focus is in the right place (and I love your use of smileys that I've never seen before).
As to generating back story: Its something, as caster, that we want to do, but its hard. We even had CMU's coordinator on and he didn't know about his own players. That's not a slight in any way of him, it's just the nature of the beast. We haven't figured out a good way to implement it, but there are things that we can do that will somewhat satisfy that role.
1. As we progress later in the season, we will start to get familiar with the players and we can say "protoss X from YZU has DT rushed in three of his games now" and we can comment on play style before the match starts.
2. Something that I'm excited about is that we are going to continue having winners interviews. I wasn't planing on talking much about them personally but it is a cool opportunity to watch a A- player win a game and then explain his thought process going through the game, and will put a human facevoice on some of the players.
As a caster, I really appreciate any feedback. and I mean ANY feedback. If its things you like, then it tells us that those are things we should maintain/expand on (and makes us feel good, I know I still get a smile when people tell me I'm dong something right). If it is negative, then it helps us alter the cast and better reflect what the audience wants. even if it is a plain as "I watched your cast, and feel neutral towards it" it reminds me that I'm not just sitting alone in the attic yelling at my computer.
My goal is, in its simplest form, to entertain 100-200 once a week (or more frequently if we can get more replays/permission to cast live ) by talking about the game I love. If those 100-200 people tell us what is and isn't entertaining, we have an easier time achieving that goal, and it is a better experience for all.

I am going to leave this opportunity open for around a week after which I am going to drop UCCS and mess around with the West division's schedule where it makes sense to do so. Georgia Tech and CMU, I would recommend you begin scheduling a match as if UCCS does drop then you should play each other this round and you are scheduled to play each other next round anyway.
Side note - it would be ideal if people could make an effort to pick up the pace after this round in terms of when matches are played because if things continue at this rate there is definitely not going to be enough time to both play every regular season match and have playoffs. This is not the biggest deal and it might be possible for teams who don't make the playoffs to play each other during the playoffs but it would still be better if teams could make an effort to play their matches weekly rather than biweekly assuming doing so is not impossible.

the problem with doing it weekly instead of biweekly is that you give us 4 different new maps to prepare for each round, so it makes it a bit difficult if it was a weekly thing.. ;;;
also rather annoying that L_Master dropped.. did he even find other ppl for his team at UCCS?

Given that this would allow the West division to be done with the regular season by the end of round 4 and that we're coming up on finals I may end up trying to end the regular season a round early. Depending on how quickly this happens playoffs will either be a match between the top team in each division or a match between the top two teams in each division followed by a match between the winner of those two matches.

you can if everyone in the east division starts playing their matches at a faster rate
also it completely depends on when people have finals and who wins in the east division so idk, i will see what i can do to maximize the number of matches played

When is MIT's player (since we are 1-2 right now) going to play me?
I'm Nexus, by the way.
I'm available during evenings and I believe that this was relayed to "Tim" the random player on MIT whom I was supposed to play. However, no one from MIT ever got in touch with me about this match.

We informed everyone involved ahead of time that we would need to put off the matches ahead of time as well through this thread and PMs as well, and then I asked them to choose any evening of the past week to play.

CMU came out on top of the west division and the east division is either going to be won by Rutgers or Tappan Zee. Rutgers would have to lose both of its remaining matches to not win since at 3-1 it would have the head to head advantage over Tappan Zee. Given that, Rutgers should try to play Ottawa ASAP since if they win that match they don't even need to finish their match against MIT.

you are free to cast if you'd like to.. and also it would be very welcome to have a dl link provided for Pathfinder (obs) and New Heartbreak Ridge (obs). In fact, I think it'd be a great idea if this would be provided for every map, especially the weird ones.

That match from Rutgers vs MIT that was supposed to be played like 2 weeks ago...
I just played their Ace, I won. However, the series was 2-1... and we had scheduled today for 9pm.
I beat their ace (which, technically, doesn't matter because, we're still 2-1 lol).
What to do?
The ace was played because since it was 2-1, and I won, we could get the ace out of the way, too. It just happened in reverse though.
I mean, it's been postponed for a while, we scheduled for today, and the actual set player from MIT didn't show. I say Rutgers takes the win (their Ace did lose anyways, if it's of consolation).
And it is 9:20pm now... still waiting...

Kinda. Akskdsl was wrong about it being the top 2 teams, so If it is worth something, it is significantly less than what he thought.
And TZHS is top of their division now, but their 1 loss was vs rutgers, and rutgers has one more game to play, against winless MIT. If they win (which is likely) then they will both be 3-1 with RU holding the tie breaker.

I like this system the best. Gives almost all teams the chance to play.. I suggest a Bo7 format (players repeat if necessary) with 5 consistent maps throughout the playoffs (so that it isn't a pain to prepare for many new maps, and gives top teams the opportunity to analyze, and to be played in a weekly fashion).

I went for everyone because it would take the same amount of time as top 4 (both 4 rounds), and it seemed weird to invite everyone but one. If it was top 3, then you at least eliminate a round so it can go faster.
But I don't know the back story of MIT, so if they have been that unresponsive, then I understand why you would want to leave them out.
The other question is Bo5, or Bo7? I think that straight up PL format with Bo3 Bo7 is a bit excessive, but everyone (except CEM) has at least 5, which is enough for 5 1v1, 2v2, ace match.

It's not them being unresponsive that is not the case from our end at least. We played three matches on the day we were supposed to. One of our players had finals around that time so we tried to reschedule the other 2 matches for another day. It was 1-2 RU-MIT after the first 3, by the way. Then only one of the MIT people could make the rematch time and it became 2-2 (technically it's still 1-2 because it was the ace match that was played just in case, so if RU wins it's 3-2 and if we don't then we lose 1-3). Because we had to ask for a reschedule, I think it's only fair that MIT gets to have one as well. The two players have talked to each other but I don't think they've played yet and I'll ask my team mate when he is going to play.

In that system UCSD gets an easier path despite having a worse record than TZH, and it basically means that the entire season was just for position not for any sort of elimination which I think is rubbish. As in, the people who were more successful during the season don't get that great of a benefit, becauseEVERYONE gets to play in playoffs? Why not just have playoffs in the first place then based off of last season lol.. In regular PL finals there are only 4 teams in play-offs, I think it should be the same way here but tournament style due to there being 2 divisions. So, E1 vs W2, W1 vs E2, winner vs winner = finals.

That takes too long. We can't play after 3rd week of June, so I vote for top two from each area E1 vs W2, E2 vs W1 and a finals.

In regular PL finals there are only 4 teams in play-offs, I think it should be the same way here but tournament style due to there being 2 divisions. So, E1 vs W2, W1 vs E2, winner vs winner = finals.

That point aside, I think it's silly to have a playoff where every team participates, like Murderotica said. E1 vs W2, W1 vs E2 please.

Your first point is irrelevant because I was responding the suggestion above mine. You're right about PL though, I can't believe I miscounted like that lol that is shameful. I can see it being 6 teams, I just find the 4-team system 1. easier, 2. faster, 3. more fair due to the difference in league size, 4. more appropriate to a season-based league with so few teams. EDIT: The third place teams in both leagues don't even have winning records o__O;

Because it makes more sense to give E2 and W2 an opportunity to play against someone other than E1 and W1 respectfully for the semi-finals, because more likely than not they are the teams that they lost to and losing twice to the same team to get knocked out of a league is lame. There is the chance that say E2 is better than W1, and then E2 will earn a finals position from beating the best team in W - meaning a better finals, because the stronger team advances. Imagine if you don't cross E and W, and E2 is > W1, but they get knocked out by E1 and then E1 vs W1 is a blow-out rape. That's not fun. The possibility of that happening in either direction (either W2 > E1 or E2 > W1) is too good to miss. Also, playing against diff. teams is more fun anyway n_n;

As for the RU vs MIT match, it's been scheduled for June 6th, Monday @ 2pm. (well, it's not confirmed yet, because my opponent has to reply to me -- but he said is only available on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12-5pm. So, I assume he will accept the june 6th time)

Rutgers vs MIT match that was postponed for a while now was set for RIGHT NOW (June 6th, Monday, 1pm est).
I'm waiting in channel cbw right now (it's 1pm right now). I'm waiting 15 or so minutes. If not, Rutgers is taking the win, no questions asked. It's been far too long that this match was postponed.
*Yes, in my previous post before this, I did say it was scheduled for 2pm, but me and my opponent talked about it in PM and changed it to 1pm.

Yes, I'll handle it for now, even though I hate it. I did it (albeit a horrible job) last semester. I'll take over for the remainder of this season.
You can direct all match ups and maps and all that stuff to me. However, I haven't really read this thread; all I know is that earlier in this thread you guys were discussing some format as to how playoffs should be, but I didn't really read it so I have no idea what is going on with that. And I probably won't be reading it, either. So, just tell me what to do, and I'll relay it to our players.

The "core" of the uOttawa team has decided to retire from the playoffs/league. It was not easy to coordinate through the season, and it would not be easy to coordinate in the playoffs either. Besides, we don't really care about playing or not (we got our win against Rutgers and that was our only goal through the season). It's not something I have discussed with everyone else in the team but they'll understand.
CEM can have the win no problem.
It was fun guys and I hope you can have some fun with the playoffs!

yea im just too busy right now to organize a match, and too many of my players are in different time zones and stuff this summer. I'll be ready to do it again in the fall though.
