What's so great?

New kids on the block are forcing everyone to suck on their balls by making them pay extra cash in return for letting them run their business. It may be fine for OGN, since CJ media is a pretty wealthy group and all, but the same cannot be said for MBC Game. The future of the Proleague is uncertain, as is the future of individual leagues. Not only do the gaming broadcasting companies have to worry about finding a sponsor every time they host a competition, they have to consider this shit all the time.

The possibility of the entire scene being scaled down just to make space for Starcraft 2, which doesn't even have a solid following in Korea, makes me pissed off more than anything. If Starcraft 2 turns out to be a great game with potential for great television viewing, it will be on television without all this bureaucratic bullshit. I don't like being force fed Starcraft 2. Especially if it threatens to take away something that I enjoy greatly.

Blizzard should not have this much power over what is broadcasted and who arranges which tournaments. Viewers should have that power, not some money hungry whores who wants their shiny new game to have television coverage ASAP. You can't expect the magic to be still there. What drew people in to the Brood War professional scene may not be found if you just replace it with another game with flashier graphics. Let it grow some personality. Let it create some magic before shoving this shit down our throats.

And leave MBC Game the FUCK alone.

So the Tv stations have no right to make a profit, or the sponsor organization (those who feed the pro teams)?, your statement is just absurd. What is disturbing is that in order to put SC2 in some relevance in Korean market, Blizzard is just messing the BW scene.

Hm it's great news. Why would OGN enter a acontract if there are no plans for the Bw OSLs in the next years. They could have just save the money (which is a lot i guess) and move on

I'm not sure why everyone is assuming that this was extortion where Gretech is just trying to push their product and steal money. The networks undoubtedly have motivation to air SC2, whether it will ever be the juggernaut BW is or not, because they have so much stupid filler between big BW events. SC2 will almost undoubtedly crush them in ratings so I can't imagine that being bad for the network. Feels a lot more like a mutually beneficial agreement than extortion.

no it just legally allows gretech to broadcast the games live if you have gomtv.

pl and msl have (and are still) doing this (now and the past).

I completely agree with you. I think the GSL is a good start for competitive SCII, but I think we'll need to see it in WCG before OGN and MBC even consider broadcasting their own leagues... and KeSPA and Blizzard will have to kiss and make up... in other words: its going to be a long time coming. Despite what Blizz is trying to do.
