Flash, "I'll sweep up both league championships"![[image loading]](http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/6688/flashc.jpg)
Q Your feelings on making the finals? A I’m extremely happy. Including last season, this is my second consecutive qualification and because I feel like I’ve shown stronger play this season to get this far, I’m very happy. Also, because I feel like I’m showing the fans that I’m continually growing and developing as a player, I’m very happy with myself.
Q It does seem that you’ve gotten even stronger since last season. Is there a secret method behind this? A Because I’m still young I feel like I learn and adapt very fast (laughs). I can also feel that I’m growing and developing as a player myself. I’ll try to utilize this fact and work hard so that I can win both individual leagues.
Q Though your play has been very strong, do you believe luck has been on your side as well? A I do. I feel like this period of recent games have played out the smoothest. With luck on my side like this, I’ll have to try and avoid creating a huge accident (laughs).
Q What did you anticipate the score would be? A I came expecting a 3:1 win. I thought I would win sets 1 and 2 but I was a bit nervous about set 3 on Fighting Spirit. However, the third set played out smoother than I thought so I was able to win rather easily.
Q Did you expect free’s build in set 1? A I noticed free hyung likes going double nexus. I came prepared to counter that exact strategy. Protoss lately come up with strategies they feel will be the best to beat me but I in turn confront that by preparing strategies to counter theirs. Q In BoX matches do you predict what strategy your opponent will use next? A Rather than simply predicting, I try to adjust accordingly moment by moment. I always try to think at a higher level than my opponent and throughout all my games I always think about what my opponent might do next. I think this method helps me a lot.
Q In the 3rd set you went double command. Were you confident? A I was confident and I also didn’t want to use standard play. I felt that free hyung came prepared with an all-in strategy for Fighting Spirit but by getting control of set 3 I think it played out easily.
Q You set a new record for yourself of 13 straight wins against protoss. A I was surprised when I heard that I beat my personal record. I’m really happy that I set a new record for myself. Through hard practice I want to increase the number of consecutive wins even further.
Q Who do you want to play in the finals? A Nowadays I’m almost thirsty to play zerg. For the finals, though playing Jaedong hyung would be great, I would also like to play Calm hyung as well. Though both players are difficult opponents, because they’re strong players I feel that matches against them would be entertaining. I want to have a fun match.
Q You’re the first player in history to qualify for both league finals two seasons in a row. A I’m happy that I was able to set such a record. I feel I should play even better in the future. Since I got gold and silver last time, this time I want to win both leagues.
Q How do you plan on spending your time until the finals? A I'm in really good condition nowadays. In the remaining time, I’ll keep on eye on who I’ll end up facing and depending on who it is, I’ll spend the rest of the time working on analyzing what I must do to defeat them.
Q You achieved a lot in this month of May alone. A I’ve promised my fans I would always show a continually growing and developing side of me. Because I feel like I’ve kept my word, I’m very happy. I’ll continue to grow in the future as well.
Q Last words you want to say? A Violet hyung and Stats helped me practice like it was their own semi-final game despite the fact that it was their free time. Using this spot I want to tell them how thankful I am. I’m happy about the locations for the two finals. I think I’ll be able to have an awesome finals match in both places. I’ll make sure to win and in order to also win the best player award later on, I’ll work hard as well.

What always amazes me about Flash's play when he brings his a-game is how smart his decision making is, not his mechanical ability. He absolutely tore apart Free in this series. First the two proxy rax that broke down Free's willingness to use 12 nexus again, and then drawing in & trapping groups of goons at the 9 o clock and in front of his natural in game 3, so that he didn't even need siege for the last battle. After this series and vs Pure, no Protoss can feel safe using 12 nexus vs Flash.

Thank you Smix!

I hope practicing with Flash doesn't throw Violet into a slump...

God Young Ho. What a beast. "I got gold and silver last time, so this time I'll just get 2 golds np"

Okay I'm going to type more than one word per sentence now. But seriously, I like how he says that he just "thinks on a higher level (and based on the moment)" Jaedong better stop him :S

I don't think it is luck on his side. Just that he psycho damage his opponent so much that opponent made alot mistake.

do you guys believe that flash really thinks that he is still lacking as a player? if that his secret? not resting on his laurels but to train relentlessly? i can't understand this mentality and it's fascinating to me

I LOLed pretty hard.

just kidding, flash is playing with "power overwhelming" on. I can only hope JD can stop him, so we can have a nice competition (thou flash is already a bonjwa to me)

I think that true virtuosos of any kind always find themselves lacking to an extent. And it's not just because they know that the moment they get content is the moment they start stagnating, although that's part of it too. I think to a large extent people like Flash know they can be better, because they have such an extreme capacity to improve themselves.
Plenty of outstanding musicians always find themselves lacking because in their own minds they're always way ahead of their hands. I reckon it's the same with Flash
|
Go Flash take the OSL but lose to JD . Overpowered Flash is not entertaining to watch he needs a rival.

It all comes down to JD vs Flash. Nothing else matters anymore.

Props to Violet and Stats that are willing to practice with Flash.

I'm pretty critical of the term "bonjwa", but I think... if Flash wins both leagues now, I can accept calling him one.

Yeah try to avoid those accidents lol. Looking forward to his epic TvZ final, either Calm or Jaedong will likely put up a great fight.

If Flash wins both leagues, I can accept calling flash god of starcraft. I will then quit bw for good because there's NO FCKING way he or anyone else can top what he's accomplished this season.

Starcraft 2 could not have come out at a better time. Starcraft 1 has been solved.

I don't know who Flash is. To the Bonjwa world, they'd be honored to have flash as a member, NOT the other way around......

On May 13 2010 21:56 bugus wrote: how come always the players helping in practice should have a day off ..
Practice towards the semis naturally go over the course of several days, and chances a practice-partner or two have a day off in the midst
|
Is flash joking? I know calm can play well but if it's not a Jaedong / Flash rematch for MSL finals it will be boring, we need jaedong to push flash to have an epic set. IMO for OSL Flash already won (Effort's ZvT sucks and Kal, though he's the best P right now, probably is mentally defeated like Flash much like he is against Jaedong.
|
Thanks for the translation.
Damn Flash is amazing, well earned victory. Going to be interesting if Kal wins and Jaedong wins so Flash has to prepare for vP and vZ finals, actually the best of P and best of Z at the moment in my opinion at least. Calm and Effort winning would still make for some entertaining TvZ matches though.
Flash is untouchable by most, but if he can beat Jaedong in the finals in the BO5 then in my heart he will be the B-word. I know hes dominating so hard right not but for me its hard to ignore the fact of the last time they met, and times before where Jaedong has come out on top. Hope to see one hell of an epic finals if they meet to settle the score, hopefully with no ....interruptions.... this time.

Flash has Stats and Violet to practice with Free has.....MVP
Perhaps that made a difference

Monster! Unbelivable display of skill

Overpowered Flash may also make a potential upset in a later finals with ____ against Flash all the more shocking. The next Bisu anyone?

Flash vs Jaedong. I'm so hyped for this, we are seeing a Starcraft history in making- an epic collision between two geniuses, proportion unseen since the golden age of Boxer and Yellow!! ...I will so rip MBCGame apart by pieces and pieces if the power outrage or some other outrageous controversial event pops up.

Because they're teammates. Flash would do the same to help them on his day off. These guys train together every day, and they naturally form bonds together.
|
Please JD, don't screw up your semifinal. I mean... really.
|
violet's cheesy 12nex and carrier antics probably give flash lots and lots of practice against that abusive protoss stuff. maybe this is why leta sucks...his protoss practice partner is fucking horang2.
flash for OSL ezpz

wow damn flash. I'm really glad he's doing well but i feel bad that he's gonna get pwned by Jaedong in the MSL Finals.

respect for flash but OMG stop calling him bonjwa. 2 months is nothing to jaedong's 2 YEARS

On May 14 2010 09:46 Crimson)S(hadow wrote: respect for flash but OMG stop calling him bonjwa. 2 months is nothing to jaedong's 2 YEARS 1) Flash has been dominating for far longer than 2 months. He's been doing this well since the beginning of the Proleague season, which is something around 6 months now.
2) Jaedong was not dominating for anything close to two years. If we assume Flash took over the spot of "most dominant player" around the beginning of this year, then two years before that was late 2007/early 2008, when Jaedong won his first OSL and MSL. Between these two dates, Flash was the most dominant player for a long stretch of time, followed by the period of Six Dragons protoss dominance during late 2008/early 2009. Jaedong was not showing anything that could really be called dominance except during mid-to-late-2009, in the stretch of time where he won his back-to-back OSLs. Even then, he was not nearly as "unbeatable" as Flash has been recently, showing spots of vulnerability such as the period of time where he failed to perform in Proleague finals and dropped out of MSL against Calm.
|
so now we know that the fact Flash is good today owes a lot to having good practice partner. I hope stats and violet do not suffer in PL as hoejja puts it: once you play 10 games with Flash, you forget how to win
|
On May 14 2010 09:46 Crimson)S(hadow wrote: respect for flash but OMG stop calling him bonjwa. 2 months is nothing to jaedong's 2 YEARS
actually, 8 months. and like the poster above said, jaedong has not been dominating for 2 years. and when he did go on a tear, it was NOTHING like the dominance flash is showing now.

god i hate him so much

I hope that Kal wins v Effort so that in his quest to win both golds, Flash has to take down two races and can't just practice one matchup. This will give the MSL opponent a huge advantage. (ie. Jaedong)

Well Flash has been 80%+ winratio for over a year now actually, I'd call that pretty dominant.
