hi everyone my name is yubee. you may know me from such works as that bisu video, the other bisu video, or the zergman video. i also did some fan photoshops.
however, today i'm going to bring you something different. my other work has focused on korean progamers, but now, i'm bringing you something straight from the heart of teamliquid. i needed no imagination for this project since i'm merely illustrating what actually happened. i repeat, there is no exaggeration or parody whatsoever in this comic series.
my objective is to bring to light some of the rather ambiguous events that occurred quite recently, but henceforth will be remembered as one of the biggest backstabbings right in the back in teamliquid history: the TLTour III launch.
i'll add a little context for each episode so that people who aren't in the "in crowd" can understand a little bit better the inner workings
*NOTE* i recommend reading the background info first if you're unfamiliar with the TLTour situation ------ EPISODE 1 + Show Spoiler [Episode 1] +
The episode that started it all! This will probably be the only one people like since i am not funny!

Incorporate some snippets of their MSN dialog that matters w/ some explination, and then I'll (or some other mod) will move it to featured. It'll be glorious.
yubee - my hat off to you, respect. I enjoyed it - intially.. then not so much lol.. (note though I only knew about LDK same week it got released)
Mani - you made a private convo, public: shame on you.
As to who back stabbed who, I think after the public ridicule tiger has suffered just for trying to offer something for us, getting kicked out, albeit mouthing off beyond repair and in the context of all the people hacking and cracking his stuff left and right including a server crash, it is obvious enough for me.

Well, he lied about what he was offering. BIG TIME. It wasn't something small... the entire thing he's been saying for months has been a fabrication, which leads me to believe his ego has more to do with this than the community. He quite frankly deserves it. If he had honorably stepped down and said "yeah, okay maybe I wasn't as good as I thought I was" things wouldn't have been so bad, but he still acts like he's the shit.
Annnnnd other people hacking into him has got nothing to do with Mani. That was Tiger's mouth that got him into that situation in the fallout of it all. And if by hacking you meant the launcher / exe file... that wasn't hacking. That was simply NORMAL qualitity assurance analysis... which uncovered major defects that could have resulted in the stolen name/password for every TLT user. If Tiger was respectable, he would thank people for pointing that out flaws like this, but he wasn't, which goes to show it was all about the ego, not the community.
I respect you, which is why I hope you see all this.

I mean LordMartin is probably one of the better coders Brood War world has and he worked in the project too with tiger. Fonger is no noob either.
If tiger was truly that incompetent - where does that leave all of us?
Tiger was the ONLY member of the team to work on the launcher or even see the code. Any defects in the launcher were his responsibility and his alone.
I think the above really needs to be emphasized here. It's not as if the launcher was a team effort, and blame for problems with it can be equally shared out among everyone.
On April 27 2007 23:36 Physician wrote: If tiger was truly that incompetent - where does that leave all of us?
Physician, perhaps it will help you to understand if I explain something to you about programmers. It is not very uncommon for companies to hire programmers -- even highly-paid consultants who earn over $150/hour -- who seem like good choices initially, but end up producing total garbage in the end, sometimes even worse than the useless garbage that Tiger produced for us. For instance, here is a story about a female contractor who did literally nothing for several months, yet she told everyone she was making good progress and everyone believed her (admittedly not the best practice). And that website contains many more stories similar to this, including ones that feature incompetent yet highly-paid consultants.
Anyway, what I am getting at is that bad programmers like Tiger are everywhere, and even professional companies can be fooled into hiring them and believing that they are doing good work. Manifesto made mistakes and he doesn't deny it. We put too much faith in Tiger and did not question his abilities for too long. And I am sure we will be careful not to repeat these mistakes again. But we have little reason to feel incompetent or inferior, because as I said, professionals also make these mistakes all too often.
There is something else I would like to convey to you. You see, in almost every story on "Worse Than Failure" about a bad programmer, it is mentioned that the bad programmer keeps his job by continually giving the image that he is doing a lot more work (and work of much higher quality) than in reality. Often the worst part is that because of his senior position, the management believes all of the lies even when the other programmers try to point out his flaws. In this case here, I am afraid Tiger still has you fooled.
You ask us to show him gratitude for the work he did. I have a question for you to ponder: before all of this news broke, if you had to estimate how much time and effort Tiger had spent on his anti-hack, what would you have guessed? Be honest with yourself, and compare that to the actual answer: his anti-hack script was probably written in about 15 minutes. Now, based on my experience, I believe it is reasonable to assume a similar relationship between apparent time spent and actual time spent on the launcher as well. In other words, I think it is safe to assume the launcher took him a few hours at the most.
Furthermore, his anti-hack is completely useless -- no, it is worse than useless, because if we had launched with that as our anti-hack (not to mention the faulty launcher), TLTour would have become a joke. The same goes for the launcher: had we launched, the password of every TLTour member would have been available for the taking. This is a common problem with bad programmers: their poor-quality work is worse than no work at all.
In the end, Tiger was going to damage our community. Even after he was warned about the flaws in the launcher, it seemed apparent that he would rather put our community members at risk than admit to any problems. Even on GG.net he advertises the launch of his own league using his flawed, password-leaking launcher and placebo anti-hack. In my assessment, his ego is more important to him than the safety of our community members. How can we show thanks or respect to a person like this? Ultimately, all of us would have been better off if he never existed.
I'll tell you how I can show my respect. I can go to his office, which isn't that far from here, shit on his windshield, and then do my "Tiger Uppercut" victory dance as he leaves "work", where I'm sure he's just as much of a bumbling fool as he was here.
How is it not completely obvious that Tiger deserves all the crap that people are giving him? The guy has absolutely no redeeming qualities in this situation, and has shown absolutely no remorse for what he's done. He was ready to completely screw over people who were trusting him to do what promised to, willing to allow them to look like complete asses to the entire community. Even after this was revealed, he made absolutely no effort to make up for his mistakes, and instead attempted to defend himself and attack the people who he was ready to screw over.
There's a lot of "absolute" in the previous paragraph, which should clue people into the fact that Tiger deserves absolutely no respect or mercy for his absolutely reprehensible actions regarding TLT. Unless a person can somehow prove all that was alleged to be wrong or false, I see no reason for Tiger to expect anything but the worst treatment from everyone in the SC/BW community.
physician, on the other hand, has a much more sinister role, as we saw in his post in the starcraft league announcement thread. by keeping mani out of the loop except for retarded subtle clues he let months of work go to waste. he compensates for this absolutely WTF behavior by assuring us of some kind of brood war promised land, complete with chess analogy, pretty much cementing himself into a wackjob mad scientist role. Additionally, his partnership with Tiger is a reference to the "we" comments made in this small piece of an MSN dialog, although he remained pretty level-headed:
As much as I enjoyed the comics (and that was VERY much), I don't think it is fair to portray physician as the mastermind behind this failure. Ok he's a arrogant and theatrical in his way of saying things. He also goes, every 3 month or so, in a big blaze of light and post some inspiring (or annoying, depend who you are) rants and forecast about the game. But saying he's a monster hiding in the shadow waiting for Mani to fall when he knows what is coming is simply NOT TRUE.
If you imply he knew about the Blizzard LDK, I think that is giving him too much credits. The only one who could have know, because of his work with the blizzard/wgt thingy, was Ilitnar.
Tho the picture of him as a wacko mad scientist suit his character wonderfully, it's the context that is, I am sorry, just plain false.

And laughed every step of the way reading through it... It's just that, and you should know that, with humor and parody you can lead people to believe in false truth. And I don't think the part about physician being the mastermind behind the fiasco is not funny, I just think it's not true, and wanted to say it. Imho the comics just lack one picture of physician going "huh???!!??" when TIGER launch his program.
I have a problem. I read 4 pages of how funny the comic is, but I can't see it I typically use firefox, but also tried ie and still when I click the "show spoiler" it just opens a very small box that's empty. Any advice?
Perhaps you don't realize just how incompetent Tiger is. It's not about "limitations" and people finding exploits in his launcher. It's about Tiger's code being a joke, 100% useless to TLT. More than that, it would have been dangerous to use in production. There was no "fixing" it, because it needed to be not just rewritten from scratch, but redesigned.
True, Ashur shouldn't have posted what he did, when he did. But Tiger screwed us.
