Recaps If you only want to watch the finals games or if you're just too damn lazy to download the games yourself, there are writeups and summaries of the games after each Wednesday and Friday. Team Liquid's very own moderators Manifesto7 and ManaBlue will be your reporters. They always include pictures and I like pictures. OctoPuSs has recently become a mod for TL.net! (Congratulations!) He is pitching in some recaps as well.
Results and Standings of Group of 24 (24 강): These will be played with 6 groups of 4. They will play a round robin with each player playing all the players in the group once. The top two automatically advancing to the 16-player tournament. The fourth places will have to say goodbye to their chances at winning and will get a seat in the ODT qualifying tournament for the next OSL. Third places advance to the wildcard round.
As to the standings what if two people have the same record? Who is over the other? If two players are tied with the same record, there is no need for a tiebreaker. They just look at the game played between the two players and the winner of that gets the higher rank. (ie. ChOJJa and Cloud both have 2-1, but since Cloud won the Cloud vs ChOJJa match, he gets a higher seat than ChOJJa). What if three player are tied? Well then a tiebreaker is played because A>B, B>C, but C>A. Tiebreakers are played like a 3-player round robin. Everyone plays everyone once. The person to win both games will get the top spot the tiebreaker is played for. 1-1 gets second and 0-2 gets third. The order tiebreaker games are played depend on whoever wins the first game. But what if everyone goes 1-1? Then the tiebreaker will have to be redone (un)fortunately.

Results and Standings of 3rd place Wildcards: The 3rd places from each of the six groups in the group of 24 will have to each play a best of three against another 3rd placer. The (3) winners of those best of threes will advance to the 16 player tournament that already has 12 players from the group play (for a total of 15). The losers of the wildcard matches will go into a tiebreaker for the last wildcard spot (W4). The first wildcarder to go 2-0 in the tiebreaker will get to advance to the tournament. Going 1-1 and 0-2 leaves them no dice and they will only get a meager ticket to the ODT qualifiers for the next OSL. Matchups will be A3-B3, C3-D3, and E3-F3.

16-player Tournament The round of 16 (Sweet 16) will be best of three series. Winners will advance to quarterfinals. Quarterfinals (Elite 8) will also be best of three. The winners will play in the semifinal. Losers, (not sure about this), will play for the 5th and 6th seeds. Semifinals (Final 4) will be best of five as will the Finals. Here is a picture of the empty bracket stolen from Honest Tea's thread. HonestTea is one of the people that really make this forum tick. Please give him your , despite his humbleness.

Final 4 (Semifinals) Results and Standings The Final 4 will finally (laff) be a best of 5. The two matches will be played on separate days of course, one series in one day. Well that's it folks, I pray that this was a valuable resource to you all who followed this complicated OSL. I hope you guys look forward to some of my threads to come. I plan on making a Making of Shinhan 2, and Shinhan 2 Results and Standings. Stay tuned!
Great post jkillashark Please update this as the season continues
Child is out because he can only get one win, and he has already lost against Rainbow and GF, and one of them will be 1-2 as well as they play each other.
If you have two guys tied for last, how do they decide the third place for the wildcard round? Do they play a playoff, or do they go by head-to-head record? (Casy, win the wildcard round please!!!)
On May 01 2006 06:49 gulii wrote: How can Child already be out? And Sea is already qualified?
Because Sea is at least 2-1 and the two 1-1 guys will play each other. Child is out because even if he wins against Sea and gets 1-2, the other person at 1-2 (GF or Rainbow) will be third and not him, because they won their game against him.
On May 01 2006 07:00 gulii wrote: SO that means that July is out too? And Pusan?
No. If July wins against Sync and Gorush wins against Rock, there will be tiebreakers for the 2nd and 3rd place between Sync, Rock and July, all of whom would be at 1-2. If July wins against Sync and Gorush loses to Rock, Gorush and Rock will advance as 2nd and 1st and July will be third, so he'll still have a chance to qualify. If July loses, he's out.
Same situation for Pusan, except Boxer has Gorush's place, Shinhwa has Rock's and Jju has Sync's.
Edit: At least that's if they go by the head-to-head record to decide 3rd and 4th place, which PoP seems to assume.
On May 01 2006 15:26 FireBlast! wrote: hmm so a good chance we might still be able to see Pusan and July in the next stage.
I dunno. I would call it a "little chance." At least to make the 16 man tourney, suppose it wouldnt be too crazy for them to make the 3rd place bracket.
I like this system though. Players get more chances and stuff.
And this report was straight up nuts, even had the group draw info O_O Jeez.
On May 01 2006 17:08 jkillashark wrote: How do you make a poll inside a thread? I want to ask you guys if you want the map names in Korean, English, both, or none at all.
Funny, I was just going to ask why you put everything in korean (although I've probably done the same countless of times) whenever you can I don't mind since korean shows up for me, but people without korean language support might.
Maybe the best way would be to at the top have a key where you write the names in both english and korean, that way people can recognize the names elsewhere too.
Then use english names for the main text (because, as I said, not everyone can see/read korean).
But it's not that important, very nice of you to compile all of this
It's funny how the only seed that is doing an extremely seedlike performance is Sea. So far, I really like how Sea plays and I think he just went up like a few thousand notches in my book.
Ugh... Come on... Casy. Whip back into shape man!! I know he won't get eliminated! Even if things come worse to worst, wildcard -_-;; Stay is NOT beating Casy on 815 -_-;; I refuse to acknowledge any other opinions
And I refuse to believe Ra will lose to Zergman T.T
I don't understand why you say the first places in each group are guaranteed to advance. As far as I can tell only Sea is guaranteed. Boxer's (and everyone's but Sea's) group could still have three people tied at 2-1, how does he automatically advance?

If you know any Chinese boy named Michael Chiu and you're Korean, I just realized last night that it sounds like "my Gochu" in Korean. Gochu means dick.
I just added results and standings from Week 3-1 games. Those were some interesting games, I can't wait for the VODs! I heard Mani gets another short clip of him.

hmm.. talking about Group A: why can't we say, that ChoJJa qualifies to next round? As I've understood, he'll do it anyway. Look, all games in Group A, except Cloud vs ChoJJa, were played. So, even if ChoJJa loses, he'll have 2-1, as the Cloud. They would be the TOP-2, and they'll qualify the turney stage. If I'm not right, fix me =)
And one more thing: topicstarter said something about it causes what the defeated player stats was. Can you tell me some more about this? For example, why would YellOw[Name] become 3rd, if he, as the Oov, has 1-2, and notghing can change this stats anymore (they've played all their games).

The tiebreaker is the game played between them. Say ChOJJa loses to Cloud and they become tied with a 2-1 record. Cloud gets first because the winner of the match between two tied players goes to, yeah you guessed it, the winner. It becomes different when 3 people have the same record cause even though you won against somebody, they won against somebody you lost to.
I'm hosting one at mYm as soon as the 16 players are chosen, more information will be passed. The prizes will be $100 for the winner, $75 for 2nd, $25 for 3rd. The scoring will also be described, once I have finished the Page on our site about it I will post a URL...get ready for some crazyness The only prerequisite will be that you must have an mYm community accoutn (no charge in that), since it will all work through our system. For all of those interested, get ready All payments are coming straight from my bank account, thus there also will no delays...for thos wondering why? I'm doing it support SC & show how korean SC is just amazing to be part of!
hey i think there's a correction to be made. from what you say it seems that E Game 5 is Casy > Stay, not Stay > Casy. otherwise, casy wouldn't be 1-2, he'd be 0-3.
Thanks for catching that! Apparently nobodywashome in my brain when I typed that out. Casy is indeed 1-2 but that's because Casy > Stay, not Stay > Casy as was written. Thanks aagain!
Dude Nal_rA is in the scariest form I have EVER seen a Protoss be in. He's crushing all his opponents even with flawless defense. That's sexy, and I play Terran.
I think BoxeR and Nal_rA have the best in form game at this time and either one will get this OSL title.
I cant see Boxer losing to ShinHwA or Rainbow so, he ll advance to the quarters, facing yellow/goodfriend... Could be a nice fight, but boxer will be on top for sure and will advance to the semis only to prepare a big battle vs Gorush (I dont see any other player with the current bracket able to defeat Gorush before the quarters). It should be a nice clash but im confident with Boxer's TvZ and he must qualify to the final!
On the other side of the bracket, there are 3 big names: Sea, Ra and July. July vs Sea (no doubt July will be W1) should be fantastic. I cant bet on who ll be finalist, but i m sure about a magical end for this OSL: - Ra proving he's really back and that P is still a good race - July being the true Zerg champion with 3 OSL titles on his belt after being pushed into the "loser's bracket" and its wildcards - Boxer winning his third OSL + the golden mouse after NOT being qualified in the old OSL format - Sea succesfully walking into the Royal Road defeating Boxer in Final, and cleaming the new area of progamers has finally arrived!
=)
(sorry for my bad english ^^ but I had to post here my feelings about this soooo exciting OSL)
On May 06 2006 08:43 Instigata wrote: NOOB question. Do they play the series, bo3,bo5 all in one day? I know the finals are all played in one day but wan't sure about the others.
Actually, I'm not sure about that either. Last OSL, the best of threes were played a game a week. But the best of fives were all played in one day with a break after the 2nd game. Perhaps HonestTea could enlighten us.
This thread is epic! It's easily the most complete topic on the most complicated SC tournament I've ever seen. The painstaking effort is very noticable and very appreciated!
Only reason I wouldnt want a Yellow vs Ra final is because I dont really like same teams to meet Nothing really on the line for them as they could easily just agree to split the winnings(Maybe winnings go to the team anyway, I dunno).

Thank you for doing this jkillashark!
Hey man, you and Mani for your gosu reports. This is just me taking the news and putting it together with fancy bold and italics for everybody to understand. Thanks anyway!
Boxer gonna be in final! His side of the brackets is much easier! No Ra, no Sea, no Chojja. Probably, no Midas, Stork and July If Rainbow loses and July qualify in wild cards W1 and roll over sea, then no toss probably! Cause I find difficult to Ra win over july on this maps... Boxer for the golden mouse!!
Boxer's micro IS legendary. If Yellow goes 4 pool, Boxer will defend at choke with 3 SCV + 1 rine. See Boxer vs Pusan on OSL semifinal, last year, game 3 (SVC+rine vs lots).
On the other hand, Boxer's TvZ kicks ANY Zerg ass (including Gorush). See Boxer vs July in last OSL. (and the games in this OSL and MSL).
Dude wouldn't it be sooooo cool if liquibet were to have brackets? So if you have to prepick all your winners and how far they advance. That would be CUHRAYZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. 1 point for round of 16's, 2 points for round of 8's, 4 points for final four's. Whopping 8 points for selecting the winner.
well that's why they'd give u a certain amount of starting points, and each player would cost different amounts of points so not everyone would pick the same ones
After looking at the bracket, I think Sea will most likely walk the Royal Road. Sea defeated Nal_ra 3-2 in ODT & in Proleague. Yellow won't win because of the heavily TvZ imbalance maps.
I just took a look at the bracket again, and it's highly possible we'll see two ZvZ semis. Chojja might end up against Yellow[Name] or JJu on one side of the bracket and Yellow actually has a good chance if Zergman takes out Casy, and he takes care of Shinhwa himself. Would be awesome if he met his namebrother in the final and win too Not that Im hoping for a ZvZ final, I just think it would be funny.
What Im really hoping for is Yellow against rA in the final
Yeah, a Yellow vs Ra with Yellow winning 3-2 after awesome games :O
It's not that impossible either, Yellow has a very good chance against the two Zergs in his brackets and Casy hasn't been all that impressive either. Ra can beat anyone
Yellow winning his first osl after all this time would be so incredibly fucking cool
Updated all OSL/Dual results + MSL/Survior results.

Here's an updated analyze over the matchup balance so far in both leagues from scratch.
MU results after 20 prelim groups and both prelim-playoffs & the following Dual groups: 28-7 ZvP 30-28 TvZ 21-11 PvT
MU results after MBC prelim groups (no playoff there - group winners advance): 24-7 ZvP 26-20 TvZ 19-10 PvT
Both prelims added together(OGN+MBC): 40-21 PvT 56-48 TvZ 52-14 ZvP
MU results after 20 prelim-groups and both prelim-playoffs, the following Dual groups, OSL groups, group-tiebreakers, wildcard matches & wildcard tiebreaker & RO16 & RO8 & Semis & 3rd/4th & 5th/6th & Grand Final:
35-12 ZvP 44-41 TvZ 25-18 PvT
MU results in MBC prelims, complete MBC Survivor & complete MSL:
35-12 ZvP 41-29 TvZ 30-15 PvT
Both above MU results added together:
70-24 ZvP 85-70 TvZ 55-33 PvT
Looks like TvZ is most balanced, PvT slightly behind, and ZvP in another league
Worth to note that maps in both prelims were RoV, Luna & Rush Hour 2.
Also only one of the winners wins and none of the losers wins in BO3-7 matches are added. (ex: The two other matches in Iris against Chojja from RO8 counts as 1-0 ZvT instead of 2-1 ZvT) Also I've added the rest of the results in MBC Survivor Stage 2. Meaning I will also count Terato vs Oov and Rainbow vs Chojja in the TeratovsOdin & JulyvsRainbow matches.
I will update this post as the leagues continue.
Conclusion after all matches:
Equal imbalance ZvP in both leagues, OGN ahead in balance on the other two matchups. This would mean Peaks&Pioneer were more balanced TvZ & PvT than Arcadia & The Eye. However that's not entirely correct. I think many Zergs would prefer the MBC maps over the OGN maps if they were facing a Terran, however Protoss players would most likely prefer the OGN maps over the MBC ones in a PvT match.

Live2Win so kindly explained the ins and outs of the 5th and 6th seed for the next OSL. I simply reiterated in the explanations.
I want to apologize for my foolishness. I didn't realize that the Korean text for the Shinhan Peaks of Baekdoo and New Pioneering Period didn't show up on computers that didn't support Korean text. I blindly thought that it would still appear until I went on my friend's laptop the other day and saw the map names as a bunch of question marks. I'm still going to keep the Korean cause it's visually pleasing to me =P, but I typed out the names in parentheses.
The Semifinal Match B between ChOJJa and JJu should be starting in about 11 hours. I've noticed a 6/9 Shinhan 2 Semifinal B thread hasn't been started yet so here's some info for someone who wants to start such a thread:
Semifinal Match B: A2 ChOJJa vs C2 JJu Game 1 @ 815 III Game 2 @ 산한 백두대간 (Shinhan Peaks of Baekdoo) Game 3 @ Rush Hour 3.0 -if necessary- Game 4 @ 新 개척시대 (New Pioneering Period) Game 5 @ 815 III
My vote goes out to the ZvZ master ChOJJa, although I do respect JJu's ZvZ strength, I think ChOJJa's is just too good.
The winding days of this tournament mean mucho points on liquibet. This game will be worth a whopping 4 points. Getting this right or wrong can make or break a liquibet season.

Yellow has virtually no chance of ever winning an OSL. He couldn't do it numerous times when his skill was way better relative to the elite progamers of the time. Now there's just way too many players who can beat him either in bo1 or bo5 so he would need some sick luck if he were to go all the way.
I dont think it would be a travesty if Yellow retired and didnt get an OSL win. He just hasnt done it. He has certainly accomplished more than almost anyone else(Save 4-5 players) in his BW career.
Honestly I would have thought he would have dropped off the map altogether if he sucked. But his form is far from terrible lately and considering he stays with his old style it is quite a feat.
Thank god Chojja won vs Jju though, or this would have been the worst OSL final ever.

But to be honest, everyone has shit chances of winning an OSL cept 1-2 people at a given era. Even then, it's not easy ~_~

lol i don't understand why you think so. people think jju is bm is that it?
I'm guessing he's not as exciting. I still think that Casy is a very exciting player and that Casy vs ChOJJa should be an interesting match. Casy's TvZ is still not very tested. He's played a few games but I have yet to see a good match for him against a top zerg player such a gnomey.
Hahahha! Poor you. I on the otherhand, am done with school so I'm good to go. I say watch the WC.... Download the VODs but don't spoil it for yourself.
WC is only worthwhile live with all your friends up in the morning drunk
Just FYI, I've asked X)Benny to temp ban me for a week to prevent myself from wasting precious study time during Finals Week. I already screwed up my sleep schedule staying up for the Korea-Togo game.
I got banned cause I yelled at Benny and he don't take crap from anyone.
Haha, well he probably doesn't but I had finals. Too bad I only needed to be banned for 4 days. So I had to just read the news for a few days before I got unbanned.
This thread shows how Casy was lucky even to get to the round of 16. He got so many chances to come back in the tournament. I really dislike the actual format of OSL (yes i wanted Chojja to win :p)
