What's the deal with hamachi these days?

I am still running Hamachi 1.0.1.5, the last known working version that runs flawlessly with starcraft back in 2008.

Have there been any updates since 2008 that work consistently with XP, Vista, different routers, etc? I have not heard anything in the last couple months since ICCUP got so popular.

Are there any new features?
I would like to consider upgrading since hamachi keeps bugging me and flashing in my tray to upgrade...

So it's basically turned to crap (ie no significant improvements aside from new version numbers) since LogMeIn bought it?

Actually, I've heard there some incompatibility issues between SC and the newer version of Hamachi. I downloaded the new/latest version last month and remember not seeing any SC games. "Downgraded" to 1.0.1.1 and everything works fine now. Been using 1.0.1.1 since.

1.0.1.1 is the best version. Newer versions can bug with BW but not always.

I don't know whether it works "consistently", but you should definitely check this thread out:

From that thread, it looks like anywhere from 1.0.1.1 like Neo & Zoler posted, all the way up to 1.0.1.5 work 100% flawless.

So I will just stick with my 1.0.1.5 -- I guess fixing starcraft wasn't on LogMein's priority list :p

I've never actually used hamachi, all I know is that it does lan speed by direct connecting players in teh game instead of through bnet server or something.
How does it work exactly? Do you need to create a new gateway on b.net and only play people who are there (like ICCUP), or do you have to setup a game and type each other's IP? Are there like chatrooms for all diff kinds of games?

I don't see why someone wouldn;t just use chaos launcher instead.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

i use 1.0.2.1 and i can play lag-less games with some of my friends and not as lagless with other-ones, but my situation is special because i have some firewall issues and it is a miracle that it works at all.

To CM, hamachi just emulates lan using P2P protocols- you make a lan in hamachi and then other people join it, so when you play you dont connect to any bnet or anything you just host a lan game and other people in the same hamachi network can join

Hamachi creates a virtual LAN between several clients, so you got that part right. It can be used for all games that support LAN (including Steam games) - which is why it's pretty popular... people can play hacked versions that way instead of playing legit online.

But it's different from B.net gateways because it doesn't require a gateway. You can just host a LAN game with someone as if you were on the same network, as long as you join the same "network" on hamachi.

Also, people that have router troubles and latency issues on B.Net and ICCUP (like some colleges) can easily play games on Hamachi.

oh, really? I have issues with ICCUP because I'm on a wireless NIC (i assume). So Can I get pickup games of sc on hamachi? B.net is so boring, hackers, koreans, same fucking map every time. And that's if I can actually get a game without being banned, closed out, host lag, etc.
