Hey guys,

I'll shamelessly borrow this idea from a thread I read a while back, but as opposed to that guy, I'll actually follow through. What the fuck, man?

So here she blows:

I want to expand my musical horizon, so I'd love to listen to some of your album recommendations.

The guidlelines are:

1. Only three recommendations a day, only one per post. Please abide by this, or else it gets messy.
2. I choose one of the three recommendations and write a quick review.
3. Please use at least semi-serious recommendations. If the first three guys all post Justin Beaver albums, I still won't listen to them
4. If you could tell me why you chose the album, even better

My taste in music is pretty simple so far. I love rock, I appreciate classical music, I love solo piano stuff, I dig Classic Rock when I'm stoned, I love Red Hot Chili Peppers on road trips, I love Metal to work out to and I love electric stuff to bang to. The only rap / hip hop / blues / other negro music I listen to is live Jazz I listen to once a week at a local pub. Instrumental Jazz is cool, vocal Jazz turns me off. I can't stand most techno or electric stuff in general, and I loathe almost every rap song I've ever listened to. That doesn't mean I won't listen to your recommendations out of these genres.

Cheers bitches!

Number 1, October 15th: In The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson
My thoughts:

Number 2, October 15th: JJ Cale - Naturally

My thoughts:

Number 3, October 16th: Red Forest by If These Trees Could Talk

My thoughts:

In The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson.

Because it is the best album ever. As in all the songs together listened to in proper order are amazing.

JJ Cale - Naturally

First album of a major influence of guys like Eric Clapton, one of my favourite if not my favourite album of all time. chill country/blues/rock with jazzy/funky touches.

Dr Feelgood - Down by the Jetty

Best fucking band ever. Dirty blues rock, smells of sweat and bad whiskey. Killer Harmonica.

Okay okay so my top recommendation is TesseracT - 'Of Matter'. Good band, good album. Very prog metal and the new vocalist is almost as good as Dan Tompkins.

Seems like we have a clear winner.

Let's make it two albums today, 'Naturally' first, Crimson later. At a glance, the latter seems to be a bit more trippy, so I'll enjoy that later tonight under the influence.

Don't know if you're into post-rock but Red Forest by If These Could Talk is a masterpiece. You know why? Because I say so.

Alright, I'll report back tomorrow after having listened to those three.

Until then, please feel free to post if you know good solo piano albums. Chili Gonzales is my favourite, but I'm quite naive on the subject so far.

Have you tried Yiruma? My favourite album by him is one of his earlier works, From The Yellow Room.

I didn't follow through simply because I didn't have the time. I at least got through a few days. I think the guy right before me only got through one day. >.> If I find time I might bring the thread back but I don't know if I will yet.

For piano albums I'll suggest one of the suggestions I got in my thread. Ludovico Einaudi. I just loaded up his "In a Time Lapse" album on Spotify and it's really good so far.

EDIT: As I listen to it, it's not necessarily a piano album but it's more of an instrumental album. Mostly piano/strings with some electronic backing. I want to say the first album I listened to was "Islands," and it was mostly piano.

He's asking for albums, so it should be TesseracT - Altered State (pretty good recommendation btw)

Hope this is ok because I wanna recommend 2 short albums (both together make up for 40 minutes), both by Cloudkicker. A New Heavenly Body, progressive metal, and Let Yourself be Huge, more chill and ambient. Both are instrumental. Recommending this really underground but great artist (it's all done by one guy), really love his compositions.

A New Heavenly Body (couldn't find whole album in one video, only the separated songs):

Hawthorne Heights - The Silence in Black and White

Once you get past the fame whoring generic screemo songs the 'filler' songs are stupidly good. The album just captures a mood so well. 'Screenwriting an Apology' is easily my favorite of the album.
Team Liquid needs more Terrans.

I'm a big fan of Erik Satie and Claude Debussy, so I'll just leave this here.
Please PM me with any songs you like that you think I haven't heard before!
