I saw some bracket contests from previous MSL threads, and thought it would be fun to do a March Madness style prediction contest for this MSL. No prizes, just playing for pride.

Scoring:

Ro32:
1 point for each player predicted to advance who does
1 point for correctly guessing a player's record (2-0, 1-2, etc)

Ro16:
2 points for each player predicted to advance to the Ro8 who does
1 point for correctly guessing both players in a matchup (e.g. if you predict Stork vs BaBy and it happens)

Ro8:

3 points for each player predicted to advance to the semifinals who does
1 point for correctly guessing both players in a matchup

Ro4:

5 points for each player predicted to advance to the finals who does
1 point for correctly guessing both players in a matchup

Finals:

8 points for correctly picking the winner of the finals.

Notes:

Ro16 matchups are Group A #1 vs Group E #2, Group A #2 vs Group E #1, Group B #1 vs Group F #2, etc.
Ro8 matchups are seeded by Kespa Rank. #1 vs #8, #4 vs #5, etc. Kespa ranks are found here: http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/players/kespa-ranking

+ Show Spoiler [flamewheel91's faildictions] +
Group A

(Z)Jaedong 2-0
(T)BaBy 2-1
(Z)Hyuk 1-2
(Z)July 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group A] +
(Z)Jaedong's looking for revenge against (T)BaBy for knocking him out of the OSL, and given the Tyrant's track record I'll put him up for winning that. (Z)Hyuk versus (Z)July, sadly, we're going to give to the Hyukster both since that's what (Z)Hyuk does, and (Z)July is nowhere near his old level of play. In the winner's round, although (Z)Hyuk is super effective against (Z)Jaedong, as long as the Dong doesn't decide to 12pool he should be fine. Once again, (Z)July is set to lose, since (T)BaBy's TvZ is nothing to be laughed at. With that said, I'll give (T)BaBy the advantage over (Z)Hyuk in the final match.

Of course, this group I feel is the most likely for upsets. (Z)Jaedong has been "slumping," (T)BaBy is hitting his potential, (Z)July is, well, (Z)July, and ZvZs may get Hyuked.

Group B

(T)Flash 2-0
(Z)Action 2-1
(T)Midas 1-2
(Z)HyuN 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group B] +
(T)Flash is (T)Flash, and (T)Midas is going to be rolled over, no question. (Z)Action, being the baller that he was recently with his AK over free, (Z)Kwanro, (Z)Crazy-Hydra, and (Z)ZerO, should be able to hold the edge in a ZvZ against (Z)HyuN. Unfortunately, (Z)Action is no (Z)Jaedong and (T)Flash will just walk all over him in the Winner's match. On the loser's side, (Z)HyuN's sub-50% ZvT will be mauled by (T)Midas's 65% TvZ. The final match will be fun, but I'll give (Z)Action the edge.

Group C

(T)fantasy 2-0
(Z)Kwanro 2-1
(T)Sea 1-2
(T)Mind 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group C] +
The tedium of watching the inevitable hour-long TvTs will be alleviated by (Z)Kwanro's zergling all-ins. However, (Z)Kwanro hasn't been doing so hot in his ZvTs recently. (T)fantasy, though, has shown some pretty good results for his recent ZvT matches, and I believe (T)fantasy should be able to hold off (Z)Kwanro's hyper-aggressive early game to ride the match for a win once Hive tech rolls around. (T)Sea's TvT is nothing to be laughed at, and even though he tends to choke in tournaments, I'll give him the edge over (T)Mind. I do say though that (T)Sea will choke against (T)fantasy, giving (T)fantasy the 2-0 and a ticket to the Ro16. (Z)Kwanro, being (Z)Kwanro, will just simply run (T)Mind over with zerglings, even though (T)Mind has a good TvZ. In the final match, I'll bill (Z)Kwanro over (T)Sea both because (T)Sea is "cursed," but also because (Z)Kwanro is quite the individual's terrorist.

Group D

(P)Kal 2-0
(T)HiyA 2-1
(Z)great 1-2
(Z)YellOw[ArnC] 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group D] +
This is the first group that has a protoss player in it... so I'm looking forward to more varied matches. While (P)Kal is only 5 for 10 in his last 10 PvZs, two of those losses come from (Z)Jaedong and (Z)EffOrt, while the other one is from (Z)type-b in a Bo3 that (P)Kal won. Conversely, while (Z)great's 45-25 ZvP record seems nice statistically, his wins are mostly over relatively lower-class players. Given the state that (P)Kal has been playing in recently, I predict that he'll take the match. On the other side of the quad, (T)HiyA's TvZ is nothing to laugh at (he has (Z)Jaedong for a training partner... yeah...), and even though (Z)YellOw[ArnC]'s ZvT is of comparable statistics, I think Magikarp will be able to splash his way to victory. For the winner's match, (P)Kal's PvT has been monstrous of late (see his latest game against (T)Flash), and that'll put him slightly over (T)HiyA in an epic match. Another ZvZ comes in for the loser's bracket, and for some odd reason I'm feeling (Z)great over (Z)YellOw[ArnC], though I'm not comfortable about this one. Either way, (T)HiyA will walk over whichever zerg manages to come out of the loser's side, putting him and (P)Kal in the Ro16.

Group E

(P)Stork 2-0
(P)BeSt 2-1
(Z)Hydra 1-2
(T)MVP 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group E] +
This'll be an easy group for the Dragons. (P)BeSt will walk over (T)MVP easily, and (P)Stork's PvZ isn't to be challenged by non-(Z)Jaedong zergs, especially one of (Z)Hydra's PvZ caliber. In the PvP that will ensue for the winner's match, (P)Stork should be able to take it over (P)BeSt, though I think it'll be a fun match to watch. Loser's match will give us a lackluster ZvT, but I feel like (Z)Hydra will walk away from the match over (T)MVP. And for the finals, (P)BeSt will take the match, because even though his PvZ is shaky, I don't believe (Z)Hydra is the player to take advantage of that.

Group F

(Z)ZerO 2-0
(P)JangBi 2-1
(T)Hwasin 1-2
(Z)FireFist 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group F] +
(T)Hwasin is hella sexy, and will take it over (Z)FireFist. I sense 5pool. (Z)ZerO versus (P)JangBi should give us a very nice match, but (Z)ZerO is so cute that (P)JangBi should just give up before playing. But seriously, I call for (Z)ZerO to take the match. (T)Hwasin hasn't been able to beat (Z)ZerO the last few times they've played, and (Z)ZerO's ZvT has been fantastic lately, so (Z)ZerO will advance 2-0. (P)JangBi will wipe the floor with (Z)FireFist, though I sense another 5pool incoming. For the finals, I'm very conflicted. On one hand, (T)Hwasin's TvP is subpar, being below 50%, and (P)JangBi's PvT is over 64%, meaning that (P)JangBi should take this easily. Furthermore, (T)Hwasin is 0-4 head-to-head against (P)JangBi. On the other hand, (T)Hwasin always makes it, being the definition of stability, and this superstition makes me wonder. Let me take a minute to go find a coin, and I'll flip it for that. Okay, (P)JangBi makes it out alive with the 2-1, though if there's any match I'm unsure of, it'll be this one since it's (T)Hwasin in question.

Group G

(P)free 2-0
(T)Light 2-1
(Z)Calm 1-2
(P)Pure 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group G] +
Wings (from the MSL group ceremony thread) was right: this is definitely the group of righteous names, and it should produce some good matches. All four of these players I'd give a good chance to move on, but (P)Pure least of them all. As saying such, (T)Light-bonjwa is going to eat (P)Pure for a warm-up snack. (Z)Calm against (P)free is going to be a tough match to call, but (P)free is 5-1 head-to-head with (Z)Calm, so I call for (P)free to win. For Winner's match, (T)Light, still fuming over (P)free's recent BMing after the Match Point match, will unleash the bonjwa and take down (P)free, allowing him to 2-0...Just kidding, Light lost to (P)PerfectMan, (P)PERFECTMAN, for [insert deity here]'s sake. (P)free's got this, and hopefully will lay off the BM this time. Although, admittedly, free[bm] would make such a cool nickname. (Z)Calm, using the power of "imba" that resides in ZvP, will walk over the mediocre PvZ fielded by (P)Pure, allowing him to move onto the finals. However, (T)Light's been on an 11 game TvZ streak in Winner's League, and (Z)Calm's not been doing so hot since (T)Flash dismantled him in the last MSL, so I predict (Z)Calm hides inside his Clamshell, giving (T)Light the WL-bonjwa the win and a 2-1 into the Ro16.

Really though, why does (P)free have to be spelled with a capital F in order to be TLPD-ized. Hmmm.

Group H

(P)Bisu 2-0
(P)Shuttle 2-1
(P)Stats 1-2
(P)Movie 0-2

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind Group H] +
Oh good lord, so many PvPs going to be played here. (P)Stats, while being the Lord of the Chin, will unfortunately fall to (P)Shuttle's PvP (plus, (P)Shuttle has (T)ToSsGirL's blessings ). On the other side, (P)Movie's PvP is weak and (P)Bisu's is... well, (P)Bisu is (P)Bisu, so (P)Bisu's going to take this easily. (P)Bisu versus (P)Shuttle is going to be a cool match, and while I'm all for (P)Shuttle pulling some crazy stuff, I'm going to give the match to (P)Bisu if the game is played straight-up. (P)Stats or (P)Movie is another one of those coin flip things, and I've still got my coin from (T)Hwasin versus (P)JangBi. Okay (P)Stats wins, sorry (P)Movie. Regardless, (P)Shuttle should win over whoever advances from the loser's round, so (P)Shuttle over (P)Stats for the 2-1 and a trip to the Ro16.

Damn, that's a lot of Protoss TLPD symbols.

And so we have the following players moving on to the Ro16:

Sorry (T)BaBy, your TvP is subpar and (P)Stork is sexy. Simple 2-0 for (P)Stork to advance to the Ro8.

(T)Flash > (P)JangBi
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind B1 versus F2] +
(T)Flash is god. Do not question him. 2-0.

(Z)Action < (Z)ZerO
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind B2 versus F1] +
This is going to be tough. While (Z)ZerO is a star, (Z)Action recently just mauled him in eSTRO's recent all-kill of Stars. (Z)ZerO's ZvZ also isn't up to par, but being the star that he is I think he'll take this 2-1. Of course, ZvZ is a crazy match up, so I wouldn't be surprised at all (only saddened) if (Z)Action moves on to the Ro8.

(T)fantasy < (T)Light
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind C1 versus G2] +
Oh man, these two are both really good players with solid TvT. However, in light of recent situations, where (T)Light has been owning everybody around him, as well as (T)Light having a 5-0 record against (T)fantasy, I expect (T)Light to take this 2-0, but probably actually 2-1, since the Terrorist has sexy vultures.

(Z)Kwanro > (P)free
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind C2 versus G1] +
Hrm, this is another hard one to call. Both players are good at this matchup, and they've only gone head-to-head once with the win going to (P)free. I can see this going either way, but I'll give the slight edge to (Z)Kwanro, who'll be opting to end it early or mid-game, since once he gets to Hive tech and late game starts, (P)free's late game control will run him over. However, (Z)Kwanro, like (P)Stork, is sexy, and has been doing very well at individual leagues recently, so I expect him to be able to handle the pressure better than (P)free and take this 2-1 to advance to the Ro8.

(P)Kal > (P)Shuttle
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind D1 versus H2] +
Fights between the same team are always to be slightly awkward, and (P)Kal's no stranger to these, having 3-1'ed (T)Hwasin during last year's MSL. However (P)Shuttle, who I expect will have some crazy builds prepared for this match-up, should provide more of a match to Kal than (T)Hwasin did last year ((P)Shuttle, at least, won't be able to not siege his tanks ). If the match is played straight up, though, I expect (P)Kal to win in the late game. Definitely going to be hard to call... but sorry Yoon Joong, I'm going to have to give this match to (P)Kal, 2-1, due to his experience in these types of situations.

(T)HiyA < (P)Bisu
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind D2 versus H1] +
(P)Bisu's recent losses to (T)go.go are sad, true, and (T)HiyA is definitely solid at TvP, though he's fielded only a 3-5 win-loss against Protosses since the start of Winner's League. Anyway, (T)Magikarp's recent TvP hasn't been too stellar. Head-to-head, (P)Bisu is 2-1, but those matches were almost two years ago... Another tough match to call, but I'm going to give this to (P)Bisu, else the fanboys/girls are going to start screaming if he loses. Oh wait, they'll scream if he wins as well. 2-1 (P)Bisu, in my opinion, would be an excellent way to break out of his slump. However, Magikarp may just splash (P)Bisu to death, and by that I mean (P)Bisu might just fail, but I hope that won't be the case.

And so we have the following players moving onto the Ro8:
+ Show Spoiler [Player: KeSPA ranking] +
(Z)Jaedong: #2
(P)Stork: #9
(T)Flash: #1
(Z)ZerO: #4
(T)Light: #11
(Z)Kwanro: #6
(P)Kal: #7
(P)Bisu: #15

Wait a minute... won't they be going by the KeSPA rankings for April, which haven't been released yet? Oh well I'll edit the matches based on rank changes when the rankings come out...

Round of 8
(T)Flash > (P)Bisu
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind #1 versus #15] +
(T)Flash versus (P)Bisu is epic, and the two players have a close 11-9 record, with (T)Flash having the 11. Looking at stats alone, this might be somewhat even... but (T)Flash is a monster, with his "weakest" match up of TvP being at 67.57%, and having won 9 out of his last 10 TvPs, with one of those wins against (P)Bisu during (T)Flash's Winner's League Reverse All-Kill against STX SouL. (T)Flash will take this 3-0 or 3-1 and move on to the semifinals.

(Z)Jaedong > (T)Light
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind #2 versus #11] +
All streaks must come to an end, eventually. We all know how (Z)Jaedong is about his individual leagues (not including his recent OSL failure), and will definitely work on his recently sub-(Z)Jaedong level ZvT. However, (T)Light won't go down easily, having a 5-7 record against (Z)Jaedong (and in their most recent match (T)Light demolished (Z)Jaedong), so this match will be amazing. However, (Z)Jaedong is (Z)Jaedong, and this is his time to rebound. Except an epic showdown, with (Z)Jaedong winning either 3-1 or 3-2. One thing's for certain: this Ro8 match will be anything but one-sided.

(Z)ZerO < (P)Stork
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind #4 versus #9] +
Another great match in the making. Both (P)Stork and (Z)ZerO are good at their respective match-ups, and that will produce quite the clash. However, (P)Stork's recent PL and WL has shown the true power of his PvZ, including a win over (Z)ZerO and an epic win over (Z)Jaedong during the WL ace match for Samsung KHAN versus Hwaseung OZ. (Z)ZerO, as well, has shown a lot of recent wins against Protoss, though his last six ZvP wins have been against players who aren't particularly known for their PvZ. Either way, I expect this to be close--either 3-1 or 3-2, but with (P)Stork ultimately coming out on top. However, I'm really looking forward to (Z)ZerO's queen usage.

(Z)Kwanro > (P)Kal
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind #6 versus #7] +
While (P)Kal leads the head-to-head with a 5-4 record against (Z)Kwanro, a look at the TLPD shows (Z)Kwanro to be tearing up ZvP, going 8-2 in his last ten games, with wins against players like (P)Stork, (P)JangBi, and (P)Kal. Compared to this, (P)Kal's recent PvZ has been nothing impressive. I fully expect (Z)Kwanro to take this 3-1, moving onto a second consecutive semifinals appearance.

And so we have the following players moving onto the Ro4/Semi-Finals:
+ Show Spoiler [Player: KeSPA ranking] +
(T)Flash: #1
(Z)Jaedong: #2
(P)Stork: #9
(Z)Kwanro: #6

Round of 4/Semi-Finals

(T)Flash > (P)Stork
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind #1 versus #9] +
(P)Stork is amazing, but (T)Flash is even more amazing. While (P)Stork is one of the few players (I actually don't know about any others besides (T)Leta?) with a winning record against (T)Flash (in this case, 11-10), (T)Flash has won the last two games in a pretty convincing fashion. Both have fielded similar results against others of the opposing race recently, but (T)Flash... eh, (T)Flash is going to (Z)Win. I recall (T)Last MSL, when (P)BeSt was so hyped as to being able to stop (T)Flash, and we know how that ended. (T)Flash's revitalized TvP is going to stop The Bird with his inhuman micro and amazing timing pushes. 3-1, possibly 3-2, for one of the most exciting matches in this year's MSL.

(Z)Jaedong > (Z)Kwanro
+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning behind #2 versus #6] +
(Z)Jaedong is 4-0 against (Z)Kwanro, and despite his recent slip-ups in ZvZ, going 6-4 in his last 10 games, he is still the king of ZvZ. His losses have come at the hands of the likes of (Z)ZerO and (Z)EffOrt, S-class players, and (Z)Modesty, a ZvZ sniper. All in all, even though JvZ questionably doesn't exist anymore, (Z)Jaedong is still the best at this match up. However, (Z)Kwanro's ZvZ isn't anything to laugh at either, going 8-2 in his last 10 games with losses to (Z)Jaedong and (Z)Modesty. Being the volatile sac of confusion that ZvZ is, we can expect to see many zerglings from Kwanro, though if there's one thing that counters Kwanlings, it'd be the even more fearsome Donglings. I expect a lot of low econ games (DON'T 12POOL (Z)JAEDONG OKAY?) with some epic zergling and mutalisk micro, with the final result being 3-1 or 3-2 in (Z)Jaedong's favor.

And so, once again we have the fabled final coming up, a repeat of last year's MSL. (Z)Jaedong versus (T)Flash, #1 versus #2, gods of the Starcraft scene, duking it on in a Bo5 for the gold. Will (Z)Jaedong revolutionize ZvT again to take down (T)Flash, or will (T)Flash's marine control shoot the mutalisks from the skies? Predictions below!

+ Show Spoiler [Finals] +
Power Outage > (Z)Jaedong + (T)Flash
Power Outage > (Z)Jaedong + (T)Flash
Power Outage > (Z)Jaedong + (T)Flash

+ Show Spoiler [Reasoning] +
POWER OUTAGE BONJWA OKAY? Just kidding, but I honestly am going to say that a lot can happen between now and the finals. (Z)Jaedong and (T)Flash are my two favorite progamers, and I really can't think of one of them to win.

Damn, that took like 2 hours to do... but oh well, it was really fun. Watch me end up being completely wrong in my predictions ^.^

We're halfway through the Ro32. Congrats to Hobbes and Melon for their success so far despite all the upsets. Condolences to Julmust, who has only 2 points (correctly picked Jaedong and Hwasin to advance, but didn't pick either of their records correctly).

I'll do more contests for the OSL and MSL round of 8.

Going into the round of 16, flamewheel has struggled while Gann1 has lifted himself into a tie for first, perfectly predicting the upsets in group H.

I just got half the Round of 8: Jaedong, Flash, Midas, and free. Tough MSL, lot of upsets.

Updated with the semifinals. Basically, Hobbes wins if Jaedong wins the finals, and I win if Flash wins the finals.
