Holy War

Preface
Before there was Bisu to tear down the Matler, there were other players who tried to take him down. The two biggest candidates were Midas and Nal_ra. Savior's rivalry with Midas is another story - this is the story of the Holy Wars with Nal_ra.

The brewing storm
Almost a year before the proprietors of good and evil would clash lances came 3 encounters in which their exchanged glancing blows to each other. One game in particular would foreshadow the war that was to come. To explain this game best i will quote Chojja lover tfeign;

On August 27 2005 01:30 tfeign wrote:
that was an insanely good game

ra used every single protoss unit in the tech tree (except maybe for zealot)

Ipxzerg also used every single zerg unit in the tech tree (except for maybe guardian).

Storm, mind control, disruption web, statis field, maelstrom, and feedback were all used. Ensnare was also used by ra! Only protss spells not used were recall and hallucination.

ipxzerg used every single spell available for zerg: parasite, dark swarm, ensnare, plague.

Here is the game that came a year before the wars would change the face of progaming;
Game 4 Group F Nine Dragons ODT-R1 2005-08-27

Pringles-1
Almighty God was pleased with his underlings preformance, and took the opportunity to reunite these two warriors in a battle of heaven and hell. The Pringles S1 MSL Grand Finals.

[image loading]

The community was split over their support. Savior was entering his third consecutive MSL final and had amassed alot of fan support (especially amongst the new guys). Yet Nal_Ra was the Flower Toss, and already had much respect amongst those who had been around longer and were thus supporting Ra.

Once again, God was pleased with what he created. Perhaps he was sad that his faithful servant, the Holy Nal_ra, had lost out to the greatest evil known in the world of Progaming; the Matler. He demanded a rematch for his entertainment - and thus the Pringles S2 MSL Semi-Final between Nal_ra and Savior would be held! In the words of HonestTea;

This matchup also pits two players who once shared a roof. Back in the G.O. days, Nal_Ra was the superstar of the team when Savior joined on as a practice partner. By the time Savior became a full-fledged progamer, Nal_Ra had moved to KTF. How times change. Savior is now the single most dominant force in progaming, something remarkable as a zerg. After a long slump, Nal_Ra has returned to his dreamy winning ways, performing well in both recent OSLs and MSLs. In fact, he reached the finals of the last MSL (Pringles season 1) only to be stopped by... Savior. In this rematch of last season's final, Nal_Ra will try once again to beat Savior and his 70% ZvP winning percentage. He will have to find an answer to Savior's superb management and smooth-as-silk play. Nal_Ra will need to reach deep within his dreams and find something special to defeat the current champion. But if we've learned anything throughout the years, it's this: no progamer does 'special' better than Nal_Ra. With the maps more balanced than the last time they met, the Dream Toss has a chance to unseat the Maestro from his throne.

God was satisfied with the last encounter, notably game 1 of the semis, but not with the result. Nal_ra had proven he could take savior in a one off match and thus was given a chance to do it in a new tournament. The third holy war was a bo1 on Longinus.

After the Matler's Reign

When the Overlords from Blizzard observed the Holy Wars the demanded that they emulate their own set in their World Wide Invitational Event. After all, they had as much power as God from all their WoW money. So after inviting some token foreigners to get raped by the Koreans, they were able to have the two noble warrior fight for the entertainment of Blizzard.

[image loading]

God seeing Nal_ra get raped in yet another Bo3 decided to end the wars once and for all. He signed a deal with the emotionless CJ team to arrange for Nal_ra to play Savior in Proleague - on the map which delivered the most epic game of 2006. And so, for the last official time the two set off on another epic clash.

But Blizzard was not happy with God for undermining their WWI event with another clash of the greats. To counter God they invited both Savior and Ra (amongst others) for their Blizzcon invitational event, and increased their chances of recreating God's will by not inviting the anti-Savior, Bisu. The two warriors battled against fellow men and ended up once again in the finals. One last time the Holy battlefield was drenched with blood from Zerling and Zealot alike.

A rare handshake

The Holy Wars changed the perception of PvZ for many. While Savior was raping everyone left and right, Nal_ra stuck it to the man and gave him a run for his money. His epic tale on Peaks will be remembered for years to come. These two warrior fought over the Holy Ground which is now soaked in blood and blue goo. Their chapter in the legacy of Starcraft has ended, and we await the next epic rivalry to begin.

Amazing blog, best one yet
