I just use it to filter BT traffic and prioritize other stuff. took the words out of my keyboard. check out bandwidith throttling for routers and you'll find out about QoS features in routers. there's a lot to read, but once you know the basics its easy to enable it in your router. most routers should have the feature now, but if you have an older one the feature might not be available. Here's how i set up my router so that my computer and my wireless PS3 has the most priority.

Pretty sure that OP's family would get suspicious if the OP is suddenly and mysteriously the only one with working internet. Better solution is to just cap everyone else's internet so that they can't hog it all with pron DLs.

DL/UL for torrents really depend on your ISP, on some programs (Like BitComet) you can usually get away with limiting your UL speed without affecting DL speeds
