I've only been smoking for a little over three years, but it feels like it's been a lot longer. I suppose that's because I started nearly immediately after I moved out of my parents' house for college. Since then it's been a staple of my semi-independent life.
Now, however, I have decided to quit seriously. I just finished my last pack in the last carton I bought yesterday, and today will be the first full day I go without cigarettes in nearly six months (I went for a week without smoking when I was staying at a relative's house).
ANYWAY...I woke up at 1:30pm. It is now 7:40pm...six hours have gone by, and my thoughts have gone from the usual, "food, sex, starcraft, steaks, football, sex, barbecues, explosions, etc" to "food, smoke, sex, smoke, starcraft, smoke, steaks, smoke, etc".
Ugh. It's not the first time I've tried to quit, but this is the first time I've taken it as seriously as I am now, and with a plan. There's like this constant anxiety hanging over my head over this whole thing.
God, cigarettes are dumb.
On another note, the thread I started in general about the blind woman getting punched on the bus like disappeared...it didn't just get closed, but I think it got deleted; when I try to access it, it says, "not enough permissions". Does anyone know why it got removed? I thought it turned out to be a pretty funny thread from all the derails, lol.
EDIT Forgot a closing parenthesis...-____-;;

I believe in you and you can do this, no matter what Chill, Incontrol, Kenngit, WoW, GTR and Haji say about you behind your back.

GL dude. Smoking is really fucking hard for some people, and not so much for others. Just depends on how susceptible to addiction you are. Either way, keep at it, this is one decision you won't ever regret.

why dont u do the thing where you smoke one less cigarette everyday
i have absolutely no experience with smoking but that method sounds badass

All you see on the side bar is "Quitting Smoking Star"
So I thought it was entitled "Quitting Smoking StarCraft." I was confuzzed.
Good luck, smoking is gross! (tobacco at least)

i have absolutely no experience with smoking but that method sounds badass I've tried that before...the lowest I was able to go was three a day for a while...but then you kind of forget you're trying to quit, and I ended up going back up and smoking more than I had before I'd tried cutting down...I think like half a pack a day for a while.
I kind of subconsciously cut down the amount I smoked lately, though, since I was trying to make my last carton last for as long as possible, lol. I spread out a pack over the better half of a week, having like 3-4 cigs a day. Yesterday, I only had two as that was all I had left.
Today...zero...
I need to go buy some gum.

Yeah when it comes down to it if you REALLY do want to quit you will do it quick. Now obviously it will be hard but when someone do decides to quit they can quick smoking pretty quick. I know a person like your friend who just quit just like that, like one day he just stopped and never went back.
Good luck to you quitting smoking, it will be hard but you will do it!

Switch to cigars- better imo

fearus = asshole.
hahaha. -___-
I have a friend, who's probably my biggest supporter for this, whose dad smoked since he was like twelve until his wife was pregnant with her (my friend)...which was like fifteen to twenty years. He stopped stone fucking cold...I'm keeping him and his fucking ACHIEVEMENT in mind...wtf, I smoked for three years? That's like nothing. Then again, I don't have a pregnancy and an unborn child as incentive...only my own health and money savings which is easily passed over.

I was thinking of getting a pipe, too...pipe tobacco is delicious (and you don't inhale when smoking pipes either as far as I was taught). I never got around to it, though.

Oh man, good luck. I can't stand people who smoke

Good luck! Cold turkey is the way to go!

GL man, just don't get addicted to something else in the process? lol

If I start going into the reasons why he shouldn't be quitting smoking, I'll look like a troll so I won't.

i don't know about you, but drinking lots of coffee helps me cull the nicotine cravings.

I'm really curious as to what reasons there are for me not to quit smoking...the only things that come immediately to mind are some existentially inauthentic implications quitting may have or some conspiracy...lol.
So yeah...purely out of curiosity, could you list out your reasons?
(I'm not really interested in agreeing/disagreeing with them...just curious)
|
It sounds like you want a reason to NOT quit smoking. Maybe wait until you're a bit further in before asking for those reasons?
Good luck!
|
I have reasons enough to quit right now...more so than I have at any other time I'd tried to quit in the past.
Oh, and as I've noticed I neglected to do so in any of my previous replies here, thanks for all the well wishes. (:

DONT SMOKE! It's a waste of money + time + hp + life + its totally not cool
enough?

im willing to bet that PH is quitting for some some woman.

gl, smoking is probably the hardest substance to quit
|
Gonna stay positive for your sake and say you will do well, but if you have the resolve to quit it from this moment (today) then it should be good. If not, welcome back!

I really hope not. That would be depressing. I mean, no one wants to live a hard life, but if I thought I had overcome the largest hurdle of my life at the age of 22, or whatever the OP is, and it was cigarettes then I would want a refund.
That said, good for you. I hope you see it through.
|
Well I wish you the best of luck Try to find something to replace them when you get stressed or feel the need, I quit, with use of nicotine replacement, and that was hard, can't imagine straight up stopping.

The nagatives to benefits ratio about smoking is about .01< 99.99 %. The only + I can say smoking does for u is help your voice, and since i got a morning show, I dabble. Other then that I would quit in heart-beat, props to you big guy. GL.

Viel Glück! Good luck!
Personally I hate smokers, sure it's addictive, but it's not like you don't know that when you start. Well, I guess I only hate smokers because of second hand smoke. =/

oh. your mom?. oh. i thought it would be one of those girls you wanted to get with that hated drugs, etc etc.

It totally destroyed mine...I used to do growling vocals for shitty metal bands...but I lost all of my stamina when I started smoking. I couldn't even do higher pitched screams anymore...only low growls.
On May 24 2009 15:51 xJacky wrote: oh. your mom?. oh. i thought it would be one of those girls you wanted to get with that hated drugs, etc etc. No...I wouldn't quit for a girl...especially one I wanted to get with.
The last time a girl asked me to quit, it went something like this...
Girl: "You should quit smoking." Me: "Of course, of course." Girl: "C'mon...what would it take to get you to quit? Would you quit for me?" Me: "wtf...don't ever fucking ask me a question like that...'cause the answer won't be no"
She changed the subject.

Come on, you loser. Just grab another one. You know you don't have it in you to pick up another one and be done with it.
Don't try to suck it up and be a man, or some shit like that, because you're not. Just get back to smoking and stop wasting your time with this bullshit.
