So I host games usually. Usually just <My Rank> <Map Name> <Random Stuff for Uniqueness> so in theory I should be playing against a random section of D (yeah I suck) people on iCCUP and for the most part I get different people every game.
But for some reason it seems like I get bizarre runs of games where like 4 out of 6 (presumably unrelated) people do the exact same thing. And the next day it will be totally different.
And it's not like "oh I played three Terrans and they all played a MM game--call CNN." Yesterday it was three Zergs in a row going 9 pool and bringing two drones to offensive sunken. I'm sure today I will see no Zergs at all and a bunch of protoss will independently decide to all go Sair-Reaver.
Sometimes I can discern a reason. There was a day or two like right after Baby did that cringe-inducing (Yeah, I'm Zerg) Wraith game in GOM when I played a lot vs Terrans with suspiciously-high-apm going 2port.
Side note: for those of you who don't know, 2port is like the worst way to lose a ZvT... it's like slowly losing to a MM drop over 7 minutes. Fuck you Baby
Seriously though, I'm not really complaining about this. It actually helps quite a bit to play against the same non-standard game multiple times in rapid succession and my 2port defense is much stronger now for the experience.
Sometimes there's an explanation (or at least I connect it to something) but usually it seems completely random and it usually only lasts for like a day or two and then it's over. I'm not talking about something like going mech TvZ.
What I'm really curious about is does this happen to everyone? Am I going crazy? Some days it seems like everyone is protoss and then they will mysteriously disappear into the ether. What's up with that?

small sample size + availability heuristic
[EDIT] So yes this happens to everyone, but it's perfectly normal and not weird at all.

hah, It's happened to me alot as well I played the other day, and 4 zergs in a row did a 5pool *im not even kiddin*
And ive played really weird pvp games where they proxy gate on a weird location as well. I think it has to do with the most recent VODs that have been played, and people trying to copy them

But it's not the same people. The probability of two unrelated people doing the same strat seems the same if drawn from a pool of 10 or 100.

So far, every TvZ at the D+ rank for me have been 9 pool into 3 hatch speed lings, which is why now that I can counter it and know how to spot it(ZOMG THANK YOU SO MUCH STYLISH AND OTHER TERRANS WHO HELPED ME) I think I'll hit C-.

a LOT of times after a cute cheese is done in proleague you will see people p;laying the eact map, asking only for the exact matchup which imo is a great opportunity to get an easy win, could they telegraph their build any better?

Yeah I notice these timely trends sometimes also. It's a combination of random luck, popular short-term trends, and your perspective which disallows you from evaluating all data 100% objectively.

The likelihood of getting 2 heads from 2 coin flips (100% heads) is much more likely than getting 100 heads from 100 coin flips (also 100% heads).

Count yourself blessed then. Most people have to deal with a completely new and different strat every time they play so they don't get the opportunity to really counter it.
It depends on the map though. Since I can't create, I'm playing different maps.

when he was bored, my friend used to 1v1 people on b.net and change IDs once people wouldnt give re's and keep owning them with silly strats

maybe the same situation here :3 I'd do that after playing someone who cheeses you then after he wins he rms and does it to someone else. If I joined again and was wary of his constant cheesing he would just ban me. So what I did is just make a new account then do the hardest-counter BO to his . They usually call me a hacker but it's all good =]

I see what you mean man.
Today 3 of my opponents left the game within the first minute. I'm guessing it has something to do with the lag tho.

In a somewhat related note, I've had days where nearly every game I've had my expo delayed by an ebay or a pylon outside of general probe/scv douchebaggery, and then days where it never happens at all.

yeah i know what you mean. today i played a shitload of zerg (racepicking faggots >.> ) and they all seem to do this exact build, which basically goes like this:
double expand muta harass mass hydras lurker contain ultra ling
and i can't really handle it well >.>

If you played protoss you would feel this every time you played zerg. 9pool into ling run by every fucking game.

when you change ids isnt he already in middle of a game when you come back? ramp block if you scout it??

You know... I've honestly wondered. Except if it is your friend, he's really good at playing at wildly different APMs and skill levels while doing the same strat
