I regularly beat B and higher Protoss players yet I struggle and usually get raped by C- zergs. Is this typical to have such a huge skill difference in matchups? I think throughout my competitive playing days I've had exposure to high level protoss players and have had crazy good practice TvP while my TvZ has been non-existent. I mean I struggle even with basic timings TvZ it's ridiculous. I think what I need is a C+ or higher zerg to just play like 5 games a day vs till I start to figure out this timing because, ugh.

(Yeah I just got out of a sad TvZ on iccup)

Anyone else feel the same with matchups though? I mean this has got to be an extreme case, I'm confident vs B+ protoss players and C- zergs scare the crap out of me most days, heh...

That's pretty odd. Just playing a standard PvT build and strategy would probably beat a C- zerg so just pretend your opponent is protoss... just maybe make more goliaths instead of vultures and tanks.

Blah, unless I go mech when I play TvZ, it's like I play a whole different game, like I stopped playing starcraft. My hands hurt after 15 mins, I feel like I need to move faster yet I can't, I lost troops randomly.

Atleast I know I'm not the only one. TvZ mechanincs are a bit different from TvP mechanincs, you just need some time to master them. Good luck.

I'm just the opposite(confident against B- zerg, scared against D+ protoss). The reasoning is probably the same, one of my friends is a really good zerg and we've played dozens of games while the only tosses I play are on ladder.

You should practice with Attackzerg, he was always looking for practice partners of your level.

Maybe your just like FBH, but instead of sucking agianst P's your suck against Z's and maybe that one time when FBH beat a bunch of P's was like the time you beat octzerg. Also you are going to start sucking soon.

Oh Lucky, now I know why you destroy Protoss so easily.

You use your sick timing senses and unreal macro to crush them.

This is pretty much exactly my situation. I have many protoss friends who I play friendly games with who are B- and higher and I win plenty, I know almost no good zergs and seem to run into so few on ladder at higher ranks like C+ and above I'm playing 70% TvP it seems.

Yeah theres no way youre going to be B in one matchup and C- in another especially when you could do c/c+ with your mechanics alone.

otherwise link to account you got b on?

I played some games vs luckyfool the other day and his TvP is definitively strong as he gave me serious problems a few games.

I personally can`t understand how people who only play 3 matchups can get such a big skill difference in their respective matchups but it seems pretty common. However B to C- difference sounds insane....

Meching is your answer, if you beat B toss users, then doing as if your playing a toss, when hes Z, will rape the fuck out of C- zergs

Yeah, too_muchZerg made a good point.

But it's possible to have matchups be very different skill wise altho that shouldnt happen unless you play like 1 MU 90% of the time.

Don't post shit like this, it's not grounded in reality.

A good mech build would be the easiest way to go, but meching TvZ is not the same as TvP.
You still need to get to know the timings and other stuff.

Either the B protoss are projected B protosses, or the C- zergs actually need to be projected.

I never said I was B. :p

I'm C+ overall.

With B-/B TvP and probably C-/Cish TvZ. I would say there's a good 2 rank gap between matchups for me and I find that to be rather crazy.

I don't think what he is saying is all that weird. A lot of players tend to be really good and confident in their best m/u. Your worst m/u is always going to feel like it is awful in comparison. While i'm sure he might be over exaggerating his tvz suckiness, pretty much everyone is probably in the same boat as he is unless you are perfect in all m/us

Thx for that insight, added a ton to the thread.

Since I posted this I've played like 8 games on ladder all vs Protoss. I wish more ppl played zerg.

I can very well understand that, although I'm playing on a lower level. I've beaten really strong Zergs and I feel very confident in TvZ, but my TvP is just a joke. It's all about how much you play each MU, trust me. I think I played three times as many TvZs than TvPs, so just go practise.

IMO there's a huge difference between standard TvZ and TvP(or TvT for that matter), in terms of both mechanics and timing/playstyle. They're possibly the two most dissimilar matchups you can play without actually changing races, so practise in one doesn't really help the other much. I offrace TvZ and can beat C level zergs(on occasion lol), but my TvP and TvT are low D at best.

^ while TvZ and TvP is like two entirely different games with one race, but FEbio/mech/wraith/1base openings and ZvT is like playing several entirely different games in /one matchup/. Zs take so much shit today so you'd expect the Z level to go up, practice your TvZ more to keep up, no other option.

Whatever you do... don't start playing mech in tvz! Mech terran vs zerg; the stuff of ultimate faggotry.

You should really try to off-race though, like someone said already. I started playing zerg every once in a while against terrans, and I really got a better grasp of how the matchup works.

Play Zerg versus Terran.

And please
.. don't mech.

70% win rate is mediocre? :O

I just don't ladder enough on 1 account to really gauge myself. I don't hit my wall till C+ and usually run around 70% win rate till I get there.

Do I know you as any other aka's on iccup or east? Since you seem to be so deeply interested in me....

My point with this post was my TvP is much much better than my TvZ and if anyone else experiences this. I'm didn't try to say I'm a great player. I am not a great player, I'm very average.

While the discrepancy is abnormally big, it's understandable. TvP revolves around timing and positioning while TvZ is much more dynamic and relies more on mechanics (harder macro, unit control) than well executed pushes.

You just don't play TvZ enough to be good at it. Since you said that you can't even learn "basic timings", yet TvZ's timings are far simpler and clear cut in comparison with TvP's, it just means you haven't even tried to get good at TvZ, and so therefore, since you haven't consciously made an effort to learn it, you'll never be good at it.

My guess is that you're also just not used to the much more difficult mechanics of TvZ since you learned how to play on easier TvP mechanics first. Unfortunately, the qualities that make you a great TvP player don't apply much to TvZ while mechanics help you improve universally.

I'm the opposite. My TvZ is significantly better than my TvP for similar reasons. I have a friend I play with and I play TvZ maybe 70% of the games I play starcraft. As a result, my TvZ is definitely better. However, playing TvZ so much really helped out my mechanics, and that easily transferred to my subpar TvP, which is now acceptable.

Happens all the time. I find myself more comfortable vs protoss and zerg simply because I run into more of them when I play. When it comes to playing vs terran, it just seems that I don't have enough practice with all the timings and builds.

Plus it also happens at the pro level. Casy has some fucking top notch TvZ and some decent TvT, but god he is soooooooo bad at TvP. I swear he plays at like C+ level.
