K-On!
-Agreed, no clue why I'm watching it either. Just so...fluffy.

East of Eden
-Not so bad. They actualy have decent English voices, for some reason. Was surprising...although I'm assuming the series will have more action coming up.

Asura Cryin'
-Errr....stereotypical shounen? Ah, whatever.

I watched Pandora Hearts, FMA: Brotherhood and Dragonball Kai so far.

I didn't like the first 15 min of Pandora Hearts but then it started to intrigue me a little more, doesn't seem very action based but I will give it a chance. I didn't like the first episode of Xam'd Lost Memories at first and it took me a few months to watch more. When I did I tore through it and loved it so I will give this more of a chance.

Never watched the first FMA cause it wasn't broadcasted near me so it just kinda passed me by. I liked thef irst episode, gonna watch it all no doubt.

Dragonball Kai: I love DBZ so gotta watch it all. The artwork isn't fancy but the cut out filler and better pacing will make it sick as fuck. I'm excited for it all. Waiting for episode 2 now.

Where you guys watch your anime? I just follow the narutofan.com forums and get the week by week ddl's but it's not too good for wanting to start a series. Any good highquality stream sites?

Edit: I played the first two missions of Valkaryia Chronicles and liked it but then returned it to get more out of my game pass. Was the first episode good?

So far I am only watching / waiting weekly on K-on. c-castanet! Yui is pretty hilarious so far.

Not sure if I should really keep watching Full Metal Alchemist. Because it seems like it's not going to go in a really awesome direction but it may be too early to tell.

If there are any other really good series this season that you think will turn out great, post them. So far I have anidb'd their scores and ratings but it's too early for any accurate rating.

I downloaded Tears to Tiara / Eden of the East / Valkyrie Chronicles / Asura Cryin' / Phantom: Requiem / Shangri-la but simply haven't gotten around to giving them a chance yet.

There are so many episode 1's and anime coming out that I really have no clue where to start or what to start watching. Especially since some anime really need a few episodes to pick up and become great.

Higashi no Eden... first ep was the single most amazing piece of work I've come across in the last 2 seasons or so. THE show to watch this season if it keeps going in this quality.

Watching:
Higashi no Eden
FMA2 (this is the original story btw, minus the non-canon first ep, I suppose)
K-On (one of my friends actually said the animation sucked... wtf retarded)
Guin Saga (shitty first ep... kinda shoved too much down my throat in one go)

gotta pick up DBK and i'm hoping someone subs the Haruhi reruns if they're in HD.

This is the last youtube comment on that video.

Yui is so cute, that I just jacked off three times in a row watching her. It was so awesome!

Hope to see more hot Yui stuff (preferable without skirt)

Alright, I love anime. But I hate that I have to share my anime love with these dudes. Whoever coined the phrase loli deserves a punch in the nuts because it's obnoxious.

meh, first 2 episodes of FMA have been disappointing.

The first episode kinda surprised me in that it didn't do anything in terms of story or character development; it felt like I was watching a filler.

In the second episode, a lot of shit was condensed, and as a result, it lacks the poignancy and emotional impact of the early episodes in the first series.

I was hoping that this series would redo the events that transpired in the FMA movie which I didn't like at all.

I didn't read the manga but everyone keeps telling me it's better than the original anime; well, I hope it translate better on screen.

This is what I am waiting for the most. I heard it was coming out in July. Then I heard coming April 30th. Horo ftw. And yeah, I have the same feeling of FMA Spike. Feels like a filler so far.

Oh and do you guys use animenewsnetwork.com to find anime? That's what I use and they have rankings of anime. I've watched the top 10 anime so I just wanted to know if you guys did the same.

Yea, obviously, knowing things this time around sucks and kills a lot of the impact.
Which is precisely why I wasn't thrilled with the idea of a re-boot?

I just can't help making comparisons and nostalgia always win out.
Doesn't help that the original was already so good, it's like, why redo a good thing.

If you haven't read the manga, and if they pace this right, you should reach unfamiliar territory soon enough.

Also, you're being unfair to the reboot, seeing as the series hasn't gotten to where the events actually differ. The first season only really tapered off in quality toward the end, so you'll probably have to wait till sometime + Show Spoiler +

This is what I figured but it doesn't really work.

For people who haven't watched the first series, many would be confused and not as pulled in as otherwise.
And for those who did watch the original, the first episode had no real punch (it was certainly new, but was it good? felt very fillerish/episodic and not in a good way) and the second was a poor rehash imo.

They tried to strike a balance but I don't think it works for either audience.

If you haven't read the manga, and if they pace this right, you should reach unfamiliar territory soon enough.

Hope you're right.
Although, I think the pace could definitely put off the uninitiated. But I suppose most people who watch this will have already watched the first series.

Dragon Ball Kai - No fillers = good
FMA - I like this better than the original so far.
K-ON! - Good stuff
Sengoku Basara - First ep was meh but I'll continue watching

Time to go look up the other ones listed.

True, except there are two things to keep in mind:
1) Its not like the first season didn't have filler. I can think of at least 5-6 episodes that didn't really contribute strongly to the plot or character development.
2) Its a poor rehash, but its one that needs to be done. They can't just not do it. Dragging it out over more episodes might be over the top, though doing the flashbacks anecdotally over several episodes might have been a better option.

Hi dronebabo, I want to be your new best friend.

Edit: I have 113 + 28.5 + 16 + 144 + 184 = 485.5GB of anime. How much do you have?

Edit edit: What I've watched this season:
Eden of the East
Saki
FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Hayate no Gotoku!!
Asura Cryin'
Tayutama
K-ON!
Phantom ~ Requiem for the Phantom ~
Tears to Tiara
Shangri-La
Higepiyo

What I've yet to watch:
Cross Game
Sengoku Basara
Queen's Blade
Valkyria Chronicles
07-Ghost
Natsu no Arashi
Ristorante Paradiso
Hanasakeru Seishounen
Hatsukoi Limited

Although I'll probably watch only the half of the 'What I've yet to watch". Hanasakeru Seishounen and Hatsukoi Limited looks like shit.

Edit edit edit: Spice and Wolf is coming out this season and not the next? o_O

I really really dislike waiting a whole week for the next episode of an anime (why I almost never watch ones that aren't at least half way complete). I usually watch a whole series within the span of 2-3 days, so not being able to do that frustrates me =.=. However, I will probably follow the Spice and Wolf II that's gonna come out, just because the characters impressed me in the first one.

Babo, for Kugimiya or something maybe?

I wonder what Wolf and Spice is going to be following next, the OVA was taking off the short story collections that was vol 8, but that really isn't enough story to go on for long. Oh well.

EDIT - Looked at nico, geez the comments there are as mindnumbing as always. But yeah, probably for Kugimiya, unless someone actually says that in the anime (not bothering with Saki, Japanese mahjong rules amuse me too much for me to watch an anime about it)

I'm only keeping up with K-On! on a weekly basis because I love Kyoto Animation works. Otherwise, I simply lack the patience to wait week after week.

For the rest of the shows, I'm gonna wait until the season ends.

Iunno I watched episode 1 and I wasn't that impressed. The super dramatic lightning on the mahjong table etc with + / - 0!! Might be good for a couple lawls though.

I have about 200 GB of anime on my comp with a maybe 10-15 series burned onto DVD's.
(Kanon 06 being the best of those).

I have no idea how to play mahjong. I am white. I have only attempted it once years ago being taught by drunken asians for an hour and I assure you they did not explain it well. They just said, "we need a player, play." And I was like, "wtf is dis".

That was too much mahjong.
Who would have thought that an anime about mahjong would feature so much mahjong?!

Ehh there was hardly enoguh mahjong. It is closer to Yugioh than it would be anything related to mahjong. They already boiled everything down to the simplest stuff and spared the audience of actually paying attention to the game, unlike say, Hikaru no Go. Can't make it any less about mahjong before it turns into just another show for lolicons to rejoice over.

Peta be good though~

Not enough Mahjong?

Watch Akagi.

Yugioh was good, then it got bad trying to add complicated plots, and right now, Yugioh 5D's, despite having good cards (Tuners, Synchro summons, etc), the plot is somewhat bleh. Not to mention the monsters look worse and worse with each season.

Hikaru no Go is.. about Go right? I play that and I own so much in it.

This is kinda caught me offguard tbh becoz i was reaaaaly i mean really looking forward for a fma season2
I guess every1 but me knew already that its nothing but a copy with a few new ideas added in is it.....

People need to stop poking at the early episodes of FMA, they are going to need to set the groundwork, and season one is not entirely made of Bones' imagination. Consequently, these early episodes are going to be quite similar. So no, it is not going to be the same. But no, it is not going to present you with a spanking shiny new season either. If you don't want to watch things with similar content, fastforward or get someone else to tell you what happens.

babo, excellent suggestion with 電波的な彼女 (I've been writing it in romanji these few days and it just looks retarded, so screw it), been pretty hooked. Just finished all of the light novels now, must say I enjoyed the series a lot. Didn't realize it was from the author that wrote kure-nai though, guess I should make an attempt to pick up those light novels as well. Tests are almost over now though, so I am probably going to get onto Haji's suggestion of Akuma no Mikata next, wohoo.

YGO was amusing, but pretty brainless, you watch to watch shit smash each other and lol topdeck. I mean, seriously, 国士 doesn't happen on the frequency that these mahjong animes make it look like. (I know I know, I just prefer reading manga/doujins for these things more)

k-on so amazing though, I require more 4komas. On the topic of awesome 4koma, anyone else following Suzumiya Haruhi-chan? God I love that, can't wait for 消失 in Haruhi-chan version. Can't really wait to see what they have planned for "Season 2" either, but that really looks like I have to wait another 2+ months.

FMA will start be.. in a way.. different from season 1 because season 1 (actually shouldn't call this season 1, these two are totally unrelated but w/e) deferred from the manga plot, while FMA: Brotherhood follows the manga plot closely.

i actually watched all three and cried the most at clannad, least in air

in air, the fact that the person who i thought of as the main character disappeared at episode 9 kind of detracted from the emotion for me, the adoptivemother/daughter last moments didnt do that much for me for some reason

Funny, I am fairly sure that the general response is the other way around, I am not sure how influenced that is by the original games though. As I haven't had a chance to touch Air and Kanon games, I can only guess. Clannad since I already blew through the novel I didn't quite suffer from anything, though parts of Nagisa, Kyou, Sunohara family and Tomoyo arc were quite emotional.

Kotomi arc is still the best, they should've included the original short story, one's enjoyment of that arc goes up a ton after that. Afterstory/True End was...eh...well, I was never a huge fan of Nagisa, I went through that with something close to glee.

EDIT - I also hated Fuuko with a passion for anything that wasn't comedy-related for her. Not sure why. Possibly influenced by the doujins and 4komas I saw where she is pretty much just a comic element.

With Air, iirc that devastated a ton of people. Kanon similar reactions to similar-ish event.

im playing thorugh clannad right now, the kyou arc was kind of... meh i found it to be kind of convoluted esp with like + Show Spoiler +
an entire week of despair over being with ryou and like looking around for kyou; it was believable to an extent but... not enough for me
. i've only gotten through the kyou, misae, and hiiragi arcs but i guess i really am a fan of tomoya x nagisa

plus chiisana te no hira is like the prettiest insert song / ending song ever

+ Show Spoiler +
i also spoiled myself to the end of air before watching it at all, which may have had something to do with it. in kanon, i was touched by the makoto arc, mai backstory (zoo of snow bunnies man, fucken hell), and nayuki's past as well (SNOW BUNNY AGAIN OMFG) but i wasnt especially attached to ayu, as i actually was with nagisa

Interesting. In my personal experience the most depressing to least depressing has been Air > Kanon > Clannad (Anime). The only Key game I've played is Clannad (no afterstory), but I only played through the routes that were of most interest to me: Kyou, Tomoyo, Sunohara. Well, I guess I should include Ryou since Kyou's WAS Ryou's route which was immensely irritating. Sunohara was also THE MAN, and I will never forget that scene in the anime where Mei does her onii-chan impression. No one does moe like KyoAni.

edit: I forgot to include Misae's arc, that was decent just for the 'hiding under the blankets' part where Tomoya decribes her 'smell,' haha.

Also if someone is planning to watch the Kanon anime from all this discussion, please refrain from watching that older version of Kanon that was not done by Kyoto Animation because it is terrible.

Eh, my personal impression was Kanon > Clannad > Air.

But that might have been because I had already gone through about half of the VN for Clannad before watching it, so I knew what to expect for the most part.
Air didn't really impress me TOO much; although I'll have to admit that it's better than most animes I've seen...just not up to the same quality as the other two.

oh i just realized another thing that bothered me about air

+ Show Spoiler +
misuzu wasn't developed well enough to make me become attached to her, i mean okay she liked dinosaurs and she was cursed by the past, but there's nothing really appealing to her own personality except some generic moe. obviously, this is partially due to the fact that she really can't make friends and pursue drives under the constraints of the curse itself, but like... it made it hard for me to become attached to her. i think the part that was supposed to be touching wasn't her condition itself but the way yukito and haruko tried to overcome it, but yukito only delays the inevitable/breaks the curse then becomes a crow (???) and haruko only connects with her for what, half an episode before she dies... wasn't really tear jerking for me, meh

I have to disagree with you konadora. Clannad was the worst in terms of emotional 'pull,' I thoroughly enjoyed it more for that beginning-slice-of-life-easy-going-humor. The jokes were absolutely hysterical. I could not relate with the characters at all, and I felt like that whole Tomoya and his father dilemma was too shallow. Air on the other hand, you have focus on that one girl and her + Show Spoiler +
miserable plight into losing recognition of her mother's face, and the fact that the only person that she had as a 'friend' disappeared from her life
That last line she uttered probably had more impact on me than all of Clannad.

also when i say clannad made me cry the most, it wasn't only from the depressing tone, there were some happy/bittersweet moments with + Show Spoiler +
ushio and tomoya's dad
that made me baww hard

Yeah I have to agree with you 100% about the generic moe, lol. I'm a sucker for those things I guess... I thought that whole dinosaur gao thing was cute as hell.

I don't know, that whole solitary theme really made me feel for her.

About her mom...yeah she really only connects at the late-stages but I liked the fact that her character went from that tough mom nothing-will-go-wrong sort of personality to someone who feels helpless and wants to make up for neglecting her child.

man, the tomoya and his father dilemma was one of the most relatable story elements in any of the key stories for me

edit: i also definitely related to tomoya more than yukito or yuuichi

I say Clannad was better than Kanon because of the issues that Clannad brought up, as well as how well it delivered - facing life's struggles, getting together through shaky relationships, troubles within the family, etc.

The characters in Air and the first Kanon had really horrible faces.

On the other hand, Nagisa was <3

Where are you playing a translated version of Clannad Tuna?!?! Or do you read Japanese?!
I demand to know this. Was also thinking of playing Fate/Stay Night game as well.

Kanon and Clannad / After Story are beautiful & awesome. And yeah, the tears will come. If they have another project coming, I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the spoiler tags by the way. I didn't get around to watching air (I intend to) and am really happy I didn't get spoiled. =]

search for the full voice version of clannad, get it, install it by mounting the iso, replace the reallive.exe with the one here http://disk.iqho.com/mcncc.php?Mcncc=M-bnAndfTQhw (there's also translation patch support for the original voiceless version+voice patch, but since now there's a fullvoice version, i'd just get that instead)

then use get SEEN_FV_snapshot_20081220.rar from http://www.assembla.com/spaces/clannad/documents , unload everything in there into the clannad root folder except for the seen.txt file, use the more recent SEENr30_FV.TXT for that instead

after all that, everything should work and everything except the graphical settings menus should be in english

for reference, save looks like セーブ and load looks like ロード

clannad is fucking huge though, without a walkthrough, it may take well over 200 hours to get to the true ending

(i can read/understand some japanese, but not nearly well enough to watch without subs. i figure if i did watch without subs for a few series, i'd pick up japanese much better, but its so much effort and takes away from the anime when you don't understand a significant amount of it =/)

They need to make Little Busters into an anime though, I <3 Natsume Rin

Yes Rin, matatabi girl ftw.

To add onto what Tuna said, Clannad really takes forever if you don't 1, read fast, 2, use a walkthrough. Kyou route was impossible to find, Kotomi route pretty damned impossible too (You'd never figure out the random choices you need to make there on your own, I stumbled through three other routes before giving up, looking at a walkthrough, and screaming at the comp for how random that choice was). All the optional stuff like the baseball game and laser tag are immensely difficult without a walkthrough.

Or you can go ocd and start plotting out the flags yourself, I don't recommend that :p

About Key works, as I haven't actually played Kanon and Air, I can't say too much, but the issues that were brought up were much more interesting in Clannad, some parts of Kanon was good too, and Air...eh. I found them to be moving slowly back from the emotional realm and exploring deeper issues with each new work, consequently, I'd have to say that Little Busters > Clannad...if only Clannad didn't have Mei. Obviously need loli and more imouto-chara, you would never hear onii-chan from Rin, and Komorin didn't do much there either :p

Tears will totally come at their next project, Leaf+Key and 7th Expansion+Key? Wohoo two titles filled with misery.

Don't bother with F/SN, Testie, if you are going to go through that, just go through Heaven's Feel. The other routes weren't bad, but oddly enough Sakura's is actually the best in spite of being such a sucky character. Hollow/Ataraxia is also excellent, but I have a thing for Karen.

If you guys are interested in VN's, here's a demo of the first and only english one (one that isn't from Japan), http://katawa-shoujo.com/ inspired by 4chan. It's being praised by a lot of people but I've yet to play it. It looks quite well done for an amateur work though.

GTR you are fairly good with the actual history right, Sengoku Basara is more action based stuff. As for RotK, Souten Kouro from this season features Cao Cao in a more protagonist setting. Which is imo a much better take from the usual Shu supremacy.

Sengoku Basara is pure shit in comparison with Souten Koro.

That's questionable, just as some Japanese would be revolted at the idea of Nobunaga being in a protagonist role of a story, people without a good knowledge of RotK's actual history would be unable to stomach Cao Cao being portrayed this way.

I suppose 'objectively', it might not compare as nicely, but some people still won't like the idea of it.

I'm not talking about historical accuracy, as neither of them are very high up in that regard. But as an anime Souten Koro is in another league. Sengoku Basara was a bit promising first episode, but it's getting really worn out by now. The plot is only an extremely poor excuse for all these 'super cool' fighting scenes.

Nor was I, I was simply pointing out that Souten Koro might appeal to only a small subset of audiences due to the typical issues related to the character of Cao Cao. That makes it difficult to make a claim about Sengoku Basara being shit in comparison to something that could have a small niche.

At any case, yay k-on! Now all we need is for Azusa to show up.

Actually, if you want to try out VNs, Planetarian is really really short, so it's a good intro.

A really good (if much longer) VN is Ever 17.

Both are available with English translations.

And I liked Air

FMP is excellent, at least Fumoffu has very few matches in terms of sheer comedy. In terms of the anime...well, it wasn't bad, nor was TSR, but in comparison to the books they fall short. The books have both official and fan translations floating about though, so consider reading that perhaps?

Clannad > Kanon imo, but having 2 seasons with everything packed in helps. Having Key's first glasses character also helps :p

My two cents: Asura Cryin' is terrible, it started decent, stereotypical shounen, then it just degraded from there.

I'm watching K-ON!
Fluffy Marshmellows,

Cross Game.
Adachi Mitsuru fan

Valkyria Chronicles,
Kouhaku no Regios,
Eden of the East,
Hatsukoi Limited,

Some others im probably forgetting. I'd recommend K-ON, Cross Game, Eden of the East, thats about it. TSR was amazing, I wasn't much of a fan of Fumoffu though.

According to a friend that still relies on subs, there are more or less everything out for the long stories, short stories you get a good amount from fumoffu.

Actually I might work the short stories as a way to kill time over this year, some of them are excellent. The animes really don't give you enough information about how absolutely awesome Hayashimizu senpai is.

I am so sad now though, Haruhi-chan is over

One more anime (besides basara) I think many are missing out is Sunrise's Sora Kakeru Shoujo/Sora Kake Girl. It's a horrible mixture of themes including: girls, space colonies, lasers, mechs, samurais, androids and magic(!?) which one would expect an epic failure but it seems to stay entertaining. I can't think how to explain atm. It's like I'm discovering Haruhi anime again but this time nothing like the Haruhi anime.

Basara really disappointed me, you really had not give a damn about the plot considering the back drop of the anime, a wonderful and complex plot base is already there, the characters are there too, like how hard would it been to write a decent plot from the rotk?

Very difficult, I haven't seen anything from rotk for a long time that didn't bore me out of the fact that people have done it endless amount of times. Sengoku jidai comes down to much of the same.

I said decent, as in watchable. I wasn't expecting a great plot to begin with but it looks like they found bums off the street, handed them a copy of rotk and was like write me a book report.

The Romeo x Juliet plot as mediocre as that was is something that I was referring to.

I can't think how to explain atm. It's like I'm discovering Haruhi anime again but this time nothing like the Haruhi anime.

O, Sore wo Kakeru Shoujo? DLed but never watched lol

same, looked interestingish but I almost always hate animes where there is some weird talking creature that follows the main character around.

I actually thought it was pretty stale and that the first episode had the highest point with c-castanet!
Yui's voice actress is doing a really great job though. I'm still watching it religiously and enjoying it though. =]

I downloaded the first few episodes, but have only watched the first of K-ON!, I'm watching Eden of the East and Saki on a weekly basis, however. >_>

Oh definitely. It also wouldn't surprise me if Yuki ends up raping Kyotaro, possibly while eating tacos. (Okay, that one isn't as likely to happen, but it wouldn't surprise me )

No way they'd actually do all four lol, Suzumiya was supposed to be a couple of songs by the light novels, we saw two :p

Edit - At that, wasn't one of the songs listed among the four Fuwa Fuwa Time? Too lazy to check now, got to run in a bit.

Besides, even if we see all four it just means they'll follow the manga and Mio won't write like anything for a whole year+ again. TT

IDK, that's what they said in the preview lol. Maybe 2 songs per episode or something?

Too lazy to check the episode now, but if it is the live for new students, manga had 4 songs listed, one of them being fuwa fuwa time. I think I'll just wait till tomorrow and hope good things show up :p

Singapore is so damn slow, and there's like, no translations of light novels. Only light novel I have so far is SnS wtf

And for Haruhi manga, maybe vol 3? =/

Aren't you fluent anyway, stop being lazy Suzumiya has fan translations online at bakatsuki, which has a bunch of other stuff as well and I was more talking about Haruhi season 2, the so-called one

I recommend FMP if you ever get around to just reading them raw.

I can't wait for K-On! I love Thursdays.
Still need to watch FMA 07 and Valk Chronicles episodes are piling up. Eden is getting a tad boring as well...meh.

First episode of the new season of Haruhi is out. 14 new episodes are to be aired (mixed in with the season 1 rerun going on).

I donno, I thought it was supposed to be a single episode, or so did the TV schedule of the station suggest a week ago... we'll see.

And TokiKake is indeed a very awesome movie.

Looks like they are just going to air via novel order, time to plot out when I need to care.

Best solution? Text version + Rikaichan

Now that I think about it, why is that a problem, they spam furigana at us :p
