1 Euro is about 1900Won right now. It even went up to 2000Won a week ago or so.

Last year when I was in Korea it was like 1 Euro 1250Won if I remember correctly.
So yeah, bad for the Koreans, but good for me : D

I was thinking about ordering a new computer because the one I have right now is really getting old. Went to the cheapest and best site I know and soon noticed that more or less ALL prices had gone UP. Re buying the one and a half year old computer I have now would cost more atm compared to when I bought it.

The government cut the number of government-funded PhD positions in my area of expertise so it's hard finding a job for me at the mo -_-

Hasn't really affected me at all so far, but this is potentially just the beginning of something that will get far far worse.

A whole department in my company got sacked but some how noobs like me stayed lol.

didn't get any raise but wasn't really expecting any.

prices gone up heaps. a few planned upgrades went to the shits.

aussie dollar is pathetic at the moment. that rules out any travelling plan.

oh yeah, job job job, good luck to me for trying to find a new one now (Which was my original plan)

I don't think that young people are affected as much. You are young, you can always get a job, you can even go do some menial work to not starve.

older folks who can't re-skill easily are fucked. when they get sacked, no where else to go, they cost too much.

My dollar is now half a US dollar. It's probably going to get worse before it gets better due to exports, too. So much for changing it into USD anytime soon..

It has had no affect on me thus far. In the long run it might get harder for me to get a job when I'm done studying, but that's only speculation.

Obama raised NIH grant money, so there are more grants to fund research. My outlook for funding is actually much higher now (don't have to teach, yay!)

Also, I spend a lot of time in the UK, and the GBP->USD exchange rate has just plummeted. Basically, I spend half as much overseas as I used to.

So all in all, huge plus.

Huge loss. I lost all the money I saved up for my education. I had enough to get me entirely through undergrad and more. I should have spent it all on a RX-8 or something.

Parents are considering taking me out of school because our family business isn't going well. My father owns and teaches at an academy and recently people have stopped coming. Before we had about .. 40 people coming, which was pretty good. Now we're down to like 10.

harder to find jobs u_u ..
hiring freezes pretty much everywhere (well i'm looking at insurance companies, banks, etc. lollll not a great time. maybe i'll have to go work at AMD or something =\)

personally i didn't lose much in terms of $$, although my parents did. thankfully they withdrew a hefty sum in august or so, so that mitigated the loss somewhat

also i can't buy a laptop because the us dollar hasn't tanked like i predicted yet (to be fair i think it will hit rock bottom end of the summer.. so there's still quite a wait). although that's pretty minor. 0.785 FTL. i want a 1:1 dammit!

oh yeah and where the hell is the big 2009 price correction? did i miss something..?

I got laid off because my company shut down. Finding a good job is fairly difficult in my area now too. So I'd say its a big loss.

Lost about ~20% of my savings the last year due to stock market falling, otherwise no effect at all really, still studying.

I am better off because of it.

1. In school, and getting a fixed amount of guaranteed money from the military.
2. I have no debt (at least no unsubsizied debt).
3. Prices have gone down on consumer products but my income is the same
4. Gas has gone down
5. House prices have fallen and I am more likely to be a buyer than a seller anytime soon.
6. Credit crisis is no problem. I have great credit.
7. Stimulus package even though I am already better off. Fat child credit and i have a kid and my wife is pregnant again (I got $8,000 dollars BACK on my tax return)

So ya. Recession for da win!

Rumor going around at my work is that there will be a pretty big layoff next friday.

For anyone not familiar with how layoffs work, it is not announced until the day it occurs. Then, that day, usually a friday, people go around to individuals and tell them they are one of the ones being laid off. They are supervised while they pack their things, and escorted out of the building. Many times, people who have worked there for 20+ years get it.

So you can work at a place for 20 years, then on a random friday, you can find out you've lost your job and in an hour you have packed your stuff and are gone.
Do you really want chat rooms?
