maybe you should watch more sesame street if you're overstrained with that question.

director
BTW.
Asking a question like
which occupation / job is the first that comes to your mind when you think about a (hollywood)movie production?
you can't seriously expect a rational person will say "the sound guy!".
If you said name 3 people, or 5 people, the sound guy might get credit. Coz the reality is, the sound guy isn't really one of key people on a movie set -- you don't watch a movie and say "Wow, I can tell that the sound in this movie was done by Xy, he's awesome!"
That means he's not important.

it's not true if you say he isn't important. if you say so, then the camera guy isn't important neither. a movie consists of picture AND sound.
btw i guess you guys got the topic a bit wrong. i'm not only talking about the guy who is carrying the mic at the set. i'm talking about the whole soundteam if you want so. including the recording, mixing and background music stuff of a movie.

When I think about a movie (Hollywood or not) the first thing I think or care about is the writer/s. The dudes that write the screenplay and/or the original work it was based on if applicable. In my opinion the issue is that the most important part of a movie is the actors, director, and writers. Because any team can do sound or special effects (off course quality varies and makes certain teams stand out, but it isn't critical for the movie itself), but a good movie by definition requires good acting, good directing and a real good screenplay.

If you ask me the camera guy isn't in fact important either. He does the work 1000 other people could do just as good very likely.
I'll take the liberty and say that both you and I most likely can't name a single 'top camera guy', and that speaks alot on how important he is.
Directors are known, actors also, script writers are recognized. And for a reason I'd say.

Editor, but that's only because that's what I'm trying to get into If it wasn't for that I'd probably say director.
If you're into sound because you love the work then that's awesome, but if you're trying to get recognition I think it's time to pick another career.

Well if it's hollywood then definitely actors, whenever people talk about upcoming hollywood movies it's always "hey you know that new film with so-and-so?".

director
edit: I read the spoiler part and that was interesting. I would've NEVER thought of that.
