i just watched the Flash vs GGPlay series and as a Flash fan i am sad.
out of the MSL and OSL. W. T. F.
For those that havent seen it, too late ive spoiled it, but;
GGplay played very well in game 1 on medusa, countering flash's mech build with 8 hatchery ultralisks.
Flash took game 2 on chup..Autumn Wind with solid MnM play.
Game 3, Plasma.
Flash at 7 puts his 8rax behind GGplays base at 11, no chance of GGplay scouting this, marines take out ggplays 3rd hatch while flash FEs. then flash goes wraith and 2fact mines, GGplay goes lurker and smashes through the eggs, clears the mines and GG. WTF flash, why didnt you go MnM? WHY?
am so annoyed >.<

Flash wanted something more nonstandard on plasma than just winning with metal. apparently the man who brought the build to katrina didn't have enough confidence to pull it off on plasma.

If not a mine had triggered on top of 3 vultures, Flash would have held the lings with ease.
If if if, but his basic plan was working out fine at that point.

I don't really have a problem with the way Flash played the last game, even though he lost. Mech is infinitely better on Plasma than M&M is, so it was the natural way to play there. He was just a bit unlucky that about 30 of his mines managed to kill only about five zerglings and his whole vulture army. Also, GGPlay going all in with zerglings was quite unexpected there, so I would put the loss down to a little bit of bad luck, and a very risky strat by GGPlay working for him.
I remember a very similar game a season or so back on Blue Storm where UpMagic successfully bunker rushes GGPlay on Blue Storm, and the continues to contain GGPlay with a supply depot or two and a bunker after which he techs into wraiths. Just as his first wraith finishes GGPlay attacks his contain with 50 zerglings and breaks out, killing UpMagics main. In that game UpMagic was more to blame, since plain M&M are fine on Blue Storm, but the idea is the same, and all out zergling mass is just so unexpected.

Sigh, I really wish Flash would start winning again. It's all a learning curve though, as he is still younger than 95% of the up and coming players out there. Like the first game he lost, I hope he learned his lesson of why pure turtling doesn't work. He's done that strat a few times: Take three bases into metal into turtling with no scouting until you are maxed out. It usually works, but this game GGPlay just didn't build any units and instead expanded. Flash could have ended that game at any point four about 3 minutes if he moved out, but because he didn't scout he just stayed at home. So yeah, I really hope he's learned his lesson, and that he keeps on improving.

I have to agree 100% with what you said. I guess since flash has been on the scene for quite some time now, we kinda forget that he's still very young on the pro scene, *most* of the top progammers peak at 18-19.
I think competitive starcraft will have a lifetime.. but I think that is solely dependent by sc2, and lets assume sc2 comes out early 2010, it'll still take around a year or 2, or maybe even further to become an balanced, competitive esport... so, until then, Flash has about 4 years, and I'm sure he'll win many more starleagues.
