I really need to stay awake, I have this bad habit of going to sleep after school for like 2-3 hours, waking up, eating, doing homework and finishing late, around like 1 or 2 am. Then I wake up all tired again and during school, I get really tired and fall asleep. I know its rude to teachers for students to fall asleep but I can't help it. Sometimes I stand up during class but that gets too much attention and looks stupid, although sometimes I'll stand up and act like I'm getting something, like a tissue. And tonight, I think I'll be up for a while

Weird that you wake up tired. Normal to go to sleep during school if you go to sleep that late. I always when to sleep during 7th period. However, sleeping after coming school is pretty weird, that is being too lazy or maybe it a disease or something? Wash your face after you get home from school, gets you awake, and don't go to bed, go to eat instead.

I hear exercise helps you stay awake. But I just drink an unhealthy amount of energy drinks.

dont take a nap after school
try to make it through the rest of the day and go to bed around 9 or 10
then youll get a good nights sleep
wake up early, and you shouldnt be tired during school
sounds like its just a matter of getting your schedule back into shape

i would suggest taking a shorter nap (20-30min) until you get your sleep schedule back together. as with your free time, im sure you cant possibly be doing your homework ALL the time. try planning your day out and such.

BAWLS!.

Seriously.

try to stay awake until it's normal bedtime and you'll reduce sleepiness :s

you don't need coffee or energy drinks -_-;

There's a reason your schedule got out of whack: Staying up late playing StarCraft. You can use the same game to stay awake. Just make sure you're actually playing it.

Actually when I have trouble going to sleep at night, this is something I do to help. Others mentioned doing this too in another thread :d

i used to do this a lot too, after a hard day at school and practice i would just crash for a couple hours. i fixed this by waking myself up with a couple rounds of iccup as sc makes me either very frustrated or proud enough to avoid sleep.

Lol it does and then it gets me really tired when I'm done, haha but thats when I used to do it every time before I went to sleep.

Has anyone tried those 5 hour energy drink things? its a small bottle and you it only has like a little sip and suppose to keep you awake without crashing after the effect

i always slept during my first period my senior year. i didn't really care though what my teacher thought because he was an idiot anyway and couldn't teach worth shit, he was more interested in talking to the students. so if you have a teacher like that, by all means sleep through their class.

Those give me headaches. They might 'crash' a little less soley because they have no calories, but that's only one part of the feeling. Any major source of caffeine, like those drinks are, will lead to crash. And the excessive B vitamins might contribute too (blocking enzyme pathways, maybe... heard this from professor but I'm not really sold in it :o).

There are more extreme energy drinks out there. Here are two that if you try for the first time will DEFINITELY keep you awake: redline and endorush. I still remembering using endorush to try and keep me alert after having 2 hours of sleep, but I didn't realize it was 4 servings per bottle... it kept me alert, and then made me too alert and I missed out on a good night's sleep again T_T, but when I woke up in the morning it seemed to carry over. After the first time it ceased to have such a major effect, though (I also never tried having so many doses again).

Ugh I used to have the same problem as the OP. Sleep after school, I had to wake up at 3 or 4AM to finish my homework and then I'd be assed out at school

Bawls is 2 bucks a drink, which sucks. I love the taste though. BTW NEVER EVER EVER TRY SUGAR-FREE BAWLS IT IS LIKE GARBAGE WATER ;_;

edit: You can try exercising or going out for a run, it could pump you up and keep you from falling asleep.

the best way to do it is to sleep at the same time every day, like 12 or 1 am or earlier if possible and dont nap during the day

also, you dont have to do every hw, ther are assignments taht you can just half-ass

its better to get a good nights sleep and pay attention in class
every extra hour of sleep can be very useful

thats why in college, its much easier to have a 11 o clock class, rather than a 9

I guess i should have been clearer. Exercising would help the OP with his problem. Regular exercise gives you the energy to stay awake during the day and not need naps. This would solve his problem of staying up to late and being tired in class.

In high school, I did almost the same thing you are doing, but I slept for like 4 hours, as opposed to a few.

If you really need to stay up, you can try just hanging out with your friends for a couple hours. Once you hit the point where you would normally be waking up again, you'll be less tired and can probably manage without any energy drinks or anything, but they'd certainly help.

This works wonders, however you'll crash really hard after about 6 hours of repeated use.

Maybe it's because, being junior year, you have a ton of homework and you subconsciously convince yourself that you're tired so that you can do your homework later. It's kind of like procrastinating. I do it a lot too. The thing is, if it's something else after school, like going to a friend's house or just watching tv, I suddenly don't have the urge to sleep because what I'm doing awake is interesting. But as soon as I say to myself, "ok, I'll go home, do my homework, then other stuff," suddenly, I'm tried as hell and I can't focus on my homework until after a nap of like 4 hours.

Can't really give any tips since I still have this problem lol. But I think it'll be important to break the cycle of bad habit sleeping after school by forcing yourself to do your homework right after school. Just think of positive things, like how you get to go to sleep earlier, not be sleepy and cranky at school, etc, to get you motivated to do homework asap.

You should probably fix it asap, and like right now, because it can really fuck a lot of things up, like you start staying up every night, and am always tired, you start to forget to do things, and other stuff. It gets worst senior year, with senioritis kicking in and the added pressure of applying to colleges and such, so I recommend to not do what I did, and get your schedule back on track.

P.S: I'm procrastinating right now lol, I should be doing hw but I'm reading TL. T_T

I think you gotta try to not fall asleep after you get home from school and try and get on a normal schedule of going to sleep around 11PM or so. I should try following my own advice but my problem is I'll get in bed sometime between 10:30-11:30 P.M. but I can't fall asleep z.z

I had a similar problem a little while ago. Basically, it got to the point where I was going to bed regularly around 6:00am and waking up at 2:00pm or 3:00pm. All I did to correct it was stay up all day and night and then the next night I went to bed at 11:00pm. (which by that time I was exhausted) I set the alarm for 8:00am, made sure I got up and it more or less corrected itself.

If you're not allowed to play BW during week days and you have trouble staying awake while doing your homework, I'd suggest that you go to the school library or any other library and do your homework there. It's easier to focus on the task at hand and find energy to do it if you're not at home. Because you can't really do anything else but the homework if you're at a library.

Other than that, there are tons of tips already mentioned. The most important one is to avoid that 2-3 hour nap, because it'll always stop you from falling asleep later at night. Just find something that'll keep you moving and interested. Which could be anything since it's pretty individual.
