I have a glossy monitor on my laptop and I don't like it at all. You can actually see a very good reflection of yourself when you try using it during the morning/noon light. Nice graphics card you're getting there D:

Still, pretty nice machine, and a pretty good price for it.

Grats!! Just like me except you get less ram, more hd space, and windows XP
It's an awesome budget laptop imo

Are you going to be ordering from xoticpc? I have a bunch of tweaks you can do for Vista but not that many for XP:

-Uninstall the WoW Audio/Video software. It keeps messing with the screen brightness
-Download and install the ALPS touchpad driver for XP and disable tap to click

Those two should take care of any major headaches that the laptop can cause. Let me know if you have any problems and we can work it out

When you have time, I suggest you undervolt your laptop. It'll keep your lappy running cooler and therefore increase hardware life.

Also, I think getting Vista and installing Turbo memory is worth it later on. They will be releasing a driver that'll allow you to load your favourite software into the turbo memory which makes loading time super fast (like getting a mini solid state drive).

It really depends on the build quality. There are business-class laptops that last 5 years with no problems.

It doesn't own when you're trying to type and the typing cursor keeps jumping because your palm keeps brushing on the touchpad.

Upgrading to a 9700M GT is first of all impossible in this laptop and there's no 15.4 inch laptop with the 9700 afaik. Plus, those laptops have terrible battery life. Desktop replacements will last 1-2 hours whereas this machine will last over 4 hours.

Using the $400 off coupons makes the hp dv5t a pretty awesome deal :o

Uhh I don't know where you got that info from but Sager doesn't sell any barebone laptops on their website from what I can see.

They make their laptops from Clevo and Compal which are one of the biggest laptop ODMs in the world. Every company out there (to the exception of Asus afaik) rebrands a laptop from an ODM. The laptop companies we are exposed to (e.g. Sager, Dell, HP, Toshiba, Alienware, etc.) are all OEMs.

I'm sure I'll get killed over the 17" laptop thing (I love mine so far) but Gateway has a fucking ridiculous deal going on with BB atm.

Those are the best that a brick and mortar store offers. The rest of the goodies are all online lol

Though I think 17 inch laptops are too big & heavy to carry around comfortably so I go with 15.4 inch since it's a fair trade-off between mobility and performance

Nothing online comes close to that deal.

It depends how mobile you really want to be. I only take my laptop with me once or twice a week, so I don't mind.

Yeah. The most shocking thing to me isn't the video card, but the screen. 1920 x 1200 on a laptop costs a LOT.

I don't know much about Gateway laptops but:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 ;;;

But mobility-wise, I need to take my laptop to lectures every day so a 17 inch laptop just won't work for me.

Nice thinking. I have a 6860 and the cooling has been fantastic so far, but it's obviously a less powerful rig, and I hadn't thought about cooling on the new one.

I guess that 9800GTS and the 7200 rpm HD are really adding a lot of extra heat to the machine.

I think the main problem was that there is no ventilation for the HD.

That laptop gives some really weird temps. Super low cpu idle temp and super high HD temp. Complete opposite of my Sager lol

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I'm glad this computer has a 5400rpm hd. Still, that 9800GTS is wicked.

There was a 30% off $1000+ coupon for hp laptop that just expired a few days ago. Combine that with free 3gb ram, 250gb hard drive, wireless draft n upgrade, you have a great deal. It seems like hp has good coupon deals every 2 weeks.

Not really the Asus g50v has a 9700GT and its a mainstream laptop.
