Or you forget what it was even though it was only like 2 seconds ago? I get this almost every night right before I fall asleep Ive always wanted to ask people if they experienced things like this as well..except I couldnt put my words together to describe it

I think everyone has the 'Idea' train before they sleep, too. I'm a game designer and I always get random thoughts and ideas while I'm trying to sleep, so I keep a notepad around me so I can write things down because I'll forget them otherwise.

no but sometimes your dream is like super ultra long and its only been 10 mins, and sometimes its like a few mins long and its been like a few hours. I think that's because you have multiple dreams when sleeping, not just one. You only remember the last one or two though before you wake up (I've read this somewhere), so if I dream seemed really short, it probably actually was. Depending on how long the current REM cycle is will determine how long your dream is. If you wake up to an alarm clock, or get woken up by some dick being obnoxiously loud, it's possible you're being woken up in the middle of an REM cycle, which will also means it's much shorter than usual. Don't take this all as fact though... I'm really not completely sure where I learned this from, and half of it is just my own stringy hypothesis...

Yeah I think it's sleep inertia you're experiencing. It happens to me all the time when I first wake up. If I was playing starcraft late the night before then it tends to be starcraft related, instead of thinking about getting up and getting dressed, having breakfast etc. I'm thinking "shit gotta get gateways down" and other such things :O
