Learning to Zerg (Image Heavy)

I'm Leper Kahn, and I've been playing zerg for about 6 months now. I just started playing starcraft seriously (6 months ago), so I decided I'd do a blog to show my progress.

Today: 06-30-08

I had a hand injury for a little while and then I took a little starcraft break and this is my first day back. Things sucked. My ZvZ was always bad, but today was just terrible! I played a terran who sucked and I also played some asshole protoss. I'm only gonna talk about my ZvZ and ZvT today.

My ZvZ

I love 12 pool in ZvZ. I never like to go aggressive with the first lings, so I 12 pool and try to rush lair. Sadly this guy had the same thing in mind, except he was better. His whole BO is about 30 seconds ahead of mine which just sucks, but I think it's because of my lack of playing for a little while.

The game starts off okay with me enjoying the spoils of scouting.

I'm in yer base scoutin' yer expo

So I get in and know already that I'm behind. I knew I was gonna lose from this point forward.

I keep playing though because who knows this guy could still blow... I set up a few lings ready to see an attack.

Ninja lings too!

Then I do what I always do... I gotta stop. I just run the lings back to base and make sunkens! I never actually check if he's going all the way, or just to head out a bit.

Me doing too much

So the game goes as planned. We're both really passive for a ZvZ, and then I decide to scout at an awesome time. (Although I knew they were coming.)

Now I was sure I was dead... Because of an epic macro fail on my part.

Oh well, I set up an awesome muta flank... I know I'm gonna win now!

Damn... I was sure that was gonna work.

ZvT

This guy sucked. I always seem to either lose really bad to terrans, or win really easy. This was win really easy. I ended up playing with him a bit because I didn't want to just end him.

I start the game with a lucky scout. I find him with my first overlord. Then the weirdest thing happens. After his first scout he sends one marine into my base and it dies. Then two more show up.

Then he comes with another marine and a SCV. WTF? Is he trying to bunker rush like 5 minutes in?

We're here for the first two bodies

So I expo at the right time. This is new for me. I normally miss it because my expo because my APM goes up, but actually useful actions seem to go down... I mean wtf? Anyway, it doesn't help me anyway.

So I get some lurker contain going, which is weird cuz I really expect tanks... Then I scout this:

Uberterran: For people who are too good for SK Terran

Then moments later he does this:

It isn't totally clear in this picture because they didn't move as a group, but his entire force of M&M moves onto my lurkers without detection.

I loved that... At this point I'm playing with him. I don't really care how the rest of the game goes. I anticipate this guys every move and set up a nydus canal onto my expo. He moves to it.

OH SHIZZZZZZZ

But it works out just fine for the Ultra all you can eat buffet.

So full of power armor...

Anyway it's gg after this.

General

I'm doing badly after coming back, but I'm having fun. I'll be back to normal by the end of the week I think. Anyway, if any of you want to play with me I play on iCCup as "leperkahn". Just PM me or something and I'd love to play a game. I'll play whoever. (Especially higher levels so I can get better =D. )

I hope you enjoyed my first blog. I'll be working on more in the future.

Yeah it's true. I was inspired to do this because of Salv's blogs, but I had had this idea in the past.

12pool is a solid, safe build ZvZ, although I don't really advocate it in any other match-ups. Keep on representin' the Swarm~
