If you have XP you have to download patches and shit online just to make it work because random crashes at certain points of the game are retarded. And nobody I know with Vista can even make it work, period.
Conclusion: Don't use the PC version, go download a ROM/Emulator.

Not only buggy, the graphics aren't better on PC... why? Because it's a direct port from the playstation version.. FF-7 uses pre-rendered environments that have very low resolution that was ok for a TV at the time the game came out but looks horrible on a pc because they're stretched.. the 3d graphics are standing out against the backgrounds making it look stupid. ofc the ingame fights look a little sweeter in higher res but it can only be so good with such an old game.
I played FF7 and 8 on pc tho since I didn't own a ps at the time :< FF8 had the worst port imo.. in some scenes they had background characters pre-rendered in the ps version (alot of ppl standing on a flightdeck somewhere iirc).. it looked like shit.
I was crazy about FF7.. imo the best game except for FF6 :> got all the materias to master and all characters to lvl99 only because I heard about a secret ending happening if you did that.. needless to say, that didn't happen -_- but was cool to have double setups of all the Master materias :>

Well obviously there's a statute of limitations on stuff like that but at least one person in the thread said he hadn't played it so I figured I'd be polite and not potentially ruin it for him.
Relevant.
